pyro-ns
Hi guys I've been thinking about a wiki for Stageas for a while. The idea is that it'd be a lower level (stagea only) wiki, where people could sign up and contribute in the usual way. I figured it'd be a great reference, not only for noobs (seeing as the search on IPBB is pretty ordinary), but for all other facts and figures. Anyhow, have a think, tell me what you reckon I'm swamped with projects at the moment though, so it'd be a few months off. Cheers guys josh Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/289326-stagea-wiki/ Share on other sites

pyro-ns
not quite. where that wiki is a general overview of stags inc model details/model specifics, this wiki would be stagea only, with more detailed information, maintainance guides, suspension information, DIY's and their results etc. for example, imagine the topics from the DIY & FYI page, but with definitive information, as opposed to having to read through 40+ page threads to find the single sentence you're looking for. I was talking to someone a while back about consolidating information so that there's a one stop reference where people find the useful information, straight away, in a single thread. that wouldn't work, but i think this would. it will stop a lot of the questions where the answer is "do a search" as well. it won't remove the use of the forum, or change it in any way (it'll be external, unless SAU wants to use it i guess). as people are still coming up with new ideas and different ways of solving old problems, all the conversation would still take place here, it's just the end result would be recoded in a single spot, with links to the thread for more information if need be. edit: something like this would work well for all types of modification/club forums. i would LOVE to see a wiki on nissansilvia.com and i could make one for them, but the problem is that there'd be so many wankers who'd try and f**k it up, that moderating it would be a nightmare. the community here appears to be united to a single cause, which is another reason why i think it would work Edited September 24, 2009 by pyro-ns Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/289326-stagea-wiki/#findComment-4844942 Share on other sites
zei20l
ive been thinking about this for a while....... for M35 anyway, centralise all the information. but i dont mean to take anyone from here, just keep all the information in one place for easy reference. i might still do it, dunno yet Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/289326-stagea-wiki/#findComment-4845176 Share on other sites
pyro-ns
^^^ that's the thing i was worried about too, stepping on toes. there would have to be a prominent publishing of who found out/contributed the info. are you a developer btw? KiwiRS4T
Sounds like a good idea. I hate it when i know the answer to my question is somewhere in this website but often even after ages of searching I can't find it. You see the same question being asked time and time again and you can't really blame people as i have read the brake, suspension and Jaycar threads from end to end and still can't always find what I want. There was an attempt in the DIY section to list things but a proper well maintained reference site would be great. I can't help with its construction (IT deficient) but would help with filling gaps in information. It would be particularly useful for brakes and suspension (what fits which model). fat_stag
please noone take this the wrong way but i think it would be pretty cool to have a pure stagea oz sight. im a member on a couple of sights and keep a eye on them all i wouldnt see it as robbing anyone at all i personaly think of it as expaning. i would always keep using SAU cos alot of the non stagea guys have alot of helpfull and interesting advice that wouldnt follow if we were to branch out. i suck at english can hardly use a computer but would be interested to help if anyone else was. like i said im not trying to tred on any toes just think it would be pretty good to have a place of our own. Maybe a redirect of Stageasaustralia to this forum, but no WAY would you want to seperate... you loose the forced induction, suspension, drivetrain tech sections, which are of use, and of course the classifieds, and local sections etc. You would also be robbing the creators of this site the community they have founded Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/289326-stagea-wiki/#findComment-4847536 Share on other sites
hutchwilco
not to drag an old thread back from the dead, but I have just been thinking about a stagea wiki and searched and found this thread. I'm setting one up at my work (power electronics design/manufacture) to capture all the knowledge that stays in our heads when working on products. The beauty of the wiki is that things can be debated/discussed in the forums and the wiki is the distillation of the consensus. that and all the facts can be put in place. We are using Dokuwiki which is free and super simple to setup and easy to use. The only issue I can see is that it would be ideal to have the same or linked logins as on these forums. Perhaps the software that runs these forums can be connected to a wiki... zoomzoom
How about http://www.wikia.com ? Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/289326-stagea-wiki/#findComment-6597916 Share on other sites
hutchwilco
that would be nice and easy, but their wiki software seems pretty clunky and overly busy, as well as slow. plus less control than if we kept it aligned with this forum. If I can find some free hosting - ***or if skylinesaustralia.com are interested in hosting it**** I'd set up a dokuwiki version or something similar...
