I'm looking to buy an apartment to live in myself within the next few months most likely ... since I'm single and income (as far as taxman is concerned...lots of business write offs, nothing dodgy though) is average I don't have much choice in terms of suburbs as I can't get more than approx. $350k which can buy a REALLY nice and big 2bdr+garage apartment in Paramatta.. (same money would give me a friggin shithole of a studio in the inner west with a bit of change left over)

Anyway, was just wondering if any of you guys live in Parra and how you would rate it for 1) safety/security/crime 2) travel to city 3) local pubs etc 4) cops attitudes towards import drivers

I have no plans to have kids any time soon etc so that sort of 'safety' doesn't concern me .. I'm more concerned with say burglaries etc I'd hate to not be able to take my skyline to the shops eg. westfield or local pizza joint, for fear of some dickhead always looking to break into it. I'm just not sure if it's that sort of 'burb that's all ...

Any of you living in Parra (not Granville or Auburn or Blacktown ..I mean Parra +/- 5 min drive from Parra CBD) had your skylines or apartments broken into ? Are cops generally OK towards import drivers ? I find the cops in the inner west quite tolerant and they never give me any shit..

Edit: I should mention and this is probably quite important ... I work FROM HOME ..so travel to the city is unimportant unless it's for leisure on the weekends.

my sister just bought a nice apartment in harris park, 5 min walk to parra station

if you going for the whole unit thing like I am atm check out the security parking, try to get at least 2nd/3rd floor for relative theft prevention, the usual stuff

I used to drive my Gt-t around parra all the time, no probs

yep definately not getting ground floor unit ..and it'd have to be a security building with a lockup garage (that I shall fortify + remote open/close with no locks on the outside probably)

I'd rate anywhere along the strip from Parramatta > Carlingford > Epping as being good places to get a unit. Direction is NE.

Each of those has their own station.

Security is fine.

Close enough for great drives around the Blue Mtns (half an hour away)

Lots of Italian/Euro restaurants on the north side of the station & Chinese on the south side.

North Rocks, Baulkham Hills & Castle Hill are to the N. Without a station, this area is good too.

I live in Parramatta.

Been here about a month. Haven't had any encounters with police, but I drive a Supra. Attitude may be different between different imports - I don't know.

Great place to live. Close to just about everything.

I live in a unit which is pretty much what you described in your first post. Hell, the unit you're talking about is probably the one on the floor above me that's for sale atm for $350k.

There was an inspection on it today. It's a modern building off Pitt Street. PM me if you do end up buying and it's the unit I'm talking about.

But yeah, pubs are good. Crime seems to be low - too many humble asian and indian people around.

Travel to city is good. Takes me 30mins in the morning from here to St. Peters. Public transport wise though, it's good I guess. Only taken the train to the city a couple of times on weekends.

Anything else you'd like to know, just PM me.

Parra isnt a bad place to live at all. Its their football team that you should keep away from.

GOOOOOOO PARRRRRRRRRAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YEWWWWWWWWWW :D:)

That is so True......... But the much better than the bulldogs supporters

Go the Dragons

not really, the thing about being a parra supporter is that even though you guys might win the premiership (which you wont) is just like winning gold in the special olympics... at the end of the day you're still a retard.

DOGGIES 2010!

p.s. St. George has got to be the single most hated football team in the world... or at least this side of the georges river.

Im not that big of a footy fan but i'd say that the dragons are an arrogant bunch, choked it the last minute, bulldogs played well the whole season, bad luck friday night, Broncos has nothing during any of the final's appearance, face it. I reocken Parra will get there next week :)

ps Go the CATS!!!

some punk stole my shiny tyre nozzle cap in bevo, bloody idiots lol.

If your concerned about safety in terms of your car, no where is safe. Rich/poor/secured/seems safe/or reptation for being an unsafe area, if someone sees your car on the side of the road, and they want it, they will take it, no matter where it is.

in terms for personal saftey, i used to live in harris park a good 15 years ago, my PO box is still in harris park, I don't feel very safe there after knowing of what goes on there now days. Even back then it wasn't the best area around, but it has definately gone way down hill since then. There have been people killed over laptops at the station, brawls all the time, buglaries and riots. But this is near the station and the shopping strip and what not. If you go between harris park and rosehill race course it is much much quieter and more civilised. If you had to move near parra area i'd move there in the quiet streets, away from the station (if its saftey your worried about). If you can't afford anything away from the station then you have no choice then.

At the end of the day issues can arise in any area you live.... try to be aware of them.

Don't forget, trains are the prefered transport of all the shit in sydney, apart from people going to work, loss of lisence, school/ uni kids and pensioners, who else do you have left on the trains??? Drug users, alcoholics, people who think its easier to steal than to work....

Go on parra line between 10am-1pm and you see what people use trains, at that time its mostly pensioners and the scums of the earth, poor pensioners cop it at that time of the day.

I personaly wouldn't live too close to any train station except for the city stations, and im not saying city stations are better, just saying you have no choice in the city, there stations not far away from anywhere there.

Think about it like this, Paramatta is only one step above all the other worse places. IE: Blacktown, Cabramatta, Mt Druit etc. It's not really bad, but I'd still say it's bad. If anything try for North Paramatta or even Northmead.

Are you kidding me?

North Parramatta is worse than central Parramatta. That's where all the trouble is.

All the Persians, Lebanese, Dole-Bludger Aussies, Aboriginals & Greeks live there. And not the nice ones either.

which part of paramatta do you live in Ben ?

I may have to actually rent an apartment there now as I can't find anything in the area I wanted so might as well rent in parra for a year before I buy something .. which areas/surrounding suburbs of parramatta should I avoid ??

I live on the Merrylands side of the GWH, just off Pitt Street. It's still Parramatta though.

Avoid Merrylands, some areas of Wentworthville, North Parramatta and Guildford.

You can't find anything you want? As I said, there's one above me for sale. 2 bedder w/ security garage for $350,000. It's advertised with The Professionals real estate.

When Ben says avoid some areas of Wentworthville, this ESPECIALLY means the units along Lane Street, and therefore most houses/units in the area between Station Street and Lytton Street...

That's where most of the housing commission houses were/are, and it's pretty much the ghetto of Wentworthville. Sad, but true.

yeah not interested in wentworthville ... had a mate who lived there, true ghetto. Mainly central Paramatta .. just still not sure which parts are good. So far North Paramatta is off the list. But where IS Nth Parra ..north of Victoria Rd sort of?

    • Yeah we keep on in the dailies, it is pretty poor how many animals get hit and the driver leaves without checking....have saved a couple of little ones over the years. Bit of a gruesome job though, pouches generally need to be cut open because they are so tight and often the joey doesn't realise mum is gone so they are still locked onto the teat. I checked the modules in front of the DS wheel where an oil cooler should go.... There is the radar unit - that can go for race use) One of the 2 HX water pumps, the silver cylinder. That needs to be kept but might be able to be relocated But the bad news, the big computer mounted vertically in front of the wheel (blocking any potential air exit) is the electric steering computer. That is required until/unless i do a hydraulic steering conversion, and in CAD based modern car design it is not like I can just pop a big unit like that somewhere else (plus the loom would be too short anywhere else too). So, the passenger side is OK to clear out (just use a smaller washer reservoir, potentially elsewhere), but the DS no beuno
    • Well, all the best with the new camry It was interesting to hear about the UK process, it is generally a lot more streamlined here with a shipping agent looking after all the import side (noting the exact final price can still be a surprise.....) and I've used a few different brokers on the japan (or US) side, and never had any trouble with any of them....luck of the draw I guess. You mentioned you didn't get the auction sheet (understandable since you bought it from a dealer, not auction), but I always try and get hold of that because they are pretty thorough. I've imported 2x R grade vehicles over the years and both were fine, repairs in Japan are pretty thorough compared to here in Oz.
    • BTW I measured the jack I have, it is 70mm at the saddle but you only have about 700 until it returns to 150mm high at the cylinder so it is good but no magic bullet.
    • My experience with Rising Sun Exports Before agreeing to the sale I tried to do as much research as I could (obviously), his Facebook reviews are 98% and he goes Live at least once or twice a week. I contacted 2 people in the UK who had used him for their imports, both had positive feedback. His explanation and talk through of the import process was thorough, answering any query no matter how stupid it was. It felt as soon as the money was sent, communication dropped off. I asked for shipping updates every 2 weeks or so, not wanting to pester him, he never had any updates. I wasn't informed the car had been dropped off at the port, I only found out by his Facebook story. I asked for the photos taken at the port, knowing he would need some for insurance purposes. I received a few 5 second clips and that's it. When asked again, he said his staff had them. Weeks later I asked again, he tells me he doesn't have any, but does have 50 photos from the original advert. I never received them. I eventually got the documents sent via WhatsApp after I mentioned the port was requesting them. I purchased a CarVX report, to find out the vehicle is a Grade R with recorded accident damage, first recorded in 2017 when it was first auctioned. He never told me the grade, then again I didn't ask. His response was "Grade R means nothing, it wasn't chassis damage". Still, I would have liked to have been informed about it. Jon prides himself on being open and honest when it comes to inspecting cars, it's his main job doing so at the auctions for customers. When the vehicle arrived in the UK I noticed a few little cosmetic issues. It's a 21 year old car so it wasn't going to be mint condition. The side skirts are cracked on each corner and the sealant is failing. The front grill on the bonnet/hood isn't secured very well, mounting studs are missing. Both minor things, but again, it would have been nice to be told. During a Facebook Live walk around video of the vehicle, he mentioned it has a front Whiteline anti roll bar/sway bar. While on the inspection ramp, I noticed the stock item has been installed. When first questioned, his response was "the ARB? Switched? Since when, it never had them". Since sending video and photo evidence I've not received a response. I'm probably being over critical of the overall condition of an old car, but all I wanted was honesty (which he claims to have). I'm aware I wasn't his only customer, he's busy doing XYZ but other reviews praise him for great communication with regular updates and photos, I felt I didn't receive the same treatment.
    • I was able to get some underside photos while the car was on the ramp The suspension is all Altezza/IS200/IS300 so getting part's will hopefully be less of a headache
