I'm wondering if there's anyone here that has had an auto-sparky hook up a full "standalone" ecu into their r32 GTS4 or GTR and how much they payed (Older style link in my case).. I had my ECU installed about a year ago and the 4WD was never hooked up so now it only works in 2wd. The attessa ecu is telling me there is a problem with the TPS ie no thottle signal to it.

At the time I spent 1000 NZD to get it installed, now I've just got off the phone with the same guy who's been looking at the car this morning and he's telling me its gonna cost another 400-500 to get it working. I'm not happy, this should have been installed the first time.. I thought the 4wd worked because I had no 4wd warning light, It wasnt until I went to the drags and had my friend look at the front wheels while I had it on some grass to check, and they weren't moving.

Is it much harder to install an aftermarket ecu to a 4wd? or is my auto-sparky a complete rip job? thanks in advance.

it would may more come down to the ecu used. the ecu may not be suitable for using with the 4wd setup as it may not send the signals on, but i don't know for sure. had you gone a straight plug and play setup such as a pfc then i don't think you would've had any issues. was the $1000 the cost of just wiring it in, or did it also include the cost of the unit as well? if it was just to get installed then you got ripped.

I found - too late - that the unit to use is the GT-R if you are doing PnP.

Advanced Engine Management (www.wolfems.com.au) have a "black box" solution, for a lot less than $500.

Nope that was just the cost of wiring it in, I picked the wrong ecu and the wrong auto sparky. Not enough research on my part but I'm over it now and would like the 4wd working before I sell it.

only things that you have to worry about are

: tps signal to atessa spliced into the tps sensor wire.

rpm signal to attessa spliced into tacho out

speed signal wire to attessa spliced into loom near ecu.

with a rb26 ecu pinout diagram its a 5 min job with a pair of side cutters and a soldering iron :thumbsup:

the rest is a straight forward wire up..

yes thanks T04GTR I've just had it looked at by another guy this morning and those signals are the same ones he mentioned to me .. aswell as the "gearbox sensor" needs to be connected, not sure what that does or if its necessary..

T04GTR - this "speed signal wire" I assume you are talking about PIN 53 on the ECCS "Vehicle speed sensor" what pin is this connected to on the attessa ecu? I'm looking at CH-66 in the manual and cant see it?

i dont have it on hand, but you need to basicly snip it from the oe ecu plug and splice it into the new loom.

in the factory ecu the signals mentioned above go into the ecu and back out via a differant pin. all that needs to be done is these signal wires going FROM the ecu to the attessa to be cut and joined into the INPUT pin on the ecu so there is no "relaying" of signals.

ive had to do this mod for power fc's as some of them "loose" the output for tps some how..

    • The chart of front pressure to rear pressure (with one being on the x axis and the other being on the y axis) is not a straight line on a typical proportioning valve. At lower pressures there is a straight line with one slope, and at higher pressures that changes to a lower slope. That creates a bend in the line at that pressure, called the knee point. If you do not change the proportionng as the pressure gets higher, you will suffer excessive pressure (at one end of the car or the other, depending on which way you look at the proportioning action) and then get lockups at that end. The HFM BM57, from my memory of previous discussions, is based on the BM57 from a different car (to a Skyline), with a different requirement for the location of the knee point and the distribution of pressure front to rear, and so is not a good choice for an upgrade on a Skyline. Here's a couple of links to some old posts, one from here, one from elsewhere. A lot of it pertains to adjustable prop valves, but the idea is the same.     • Yeah dunno why johhny posted that here with no context, just post on FB/insta bro where he put it up?  Laine had an off at T4 during Thurs prac, he's ok, car is less than perfect, they are done for the weekend, he can fill in the rest. Bando also binned it like 100m up the road.
