Clutch Switch?

Hey guys,

Anybody know what the switch on the clutch is for?

It looks just like the one on the brake pedal.

I couldnt see it on the ECU wiring diagram.

Any thoughts?

I don't know if a factory option for 33's was Cruise Control, but they sometimes have a switch on the clutch so you don't cause the engine to over-rev when you put the clutch in by disengaging the cruise control.

I think there was a optional cruise control. I couldnt see the switch on the ecu wiring diagram, was cruise controlled by a seperate ecu?

The reason I ask is I want to use the switch for another purpose and want to know if it is ok to disconnect it on a non factory ecu.

Only one way to find out I guess...

Sounds similar to the cruise control setup thats been installed on locally delivered S15's (they have a seperate control unit for the cruise, its not run off the ecu).

Okay say your engine is under load and you pop the clutch. WAM the engine still thinks it's under load and revs it's box off.

Clutch in, button pressed engine thinks it's in idle.

Also used whilst shifting gears.

Yeah... Anyway, there's some indication on the throttle cable bracket (in the engine bay) and on the plennum that a second throttle cable could be fitted... Interesting, 'eh?

Theres a switch on the clutch pedal on our '90 Suzuki Sierra too, not hooked up either.

The two connection points coming out of it look more mechanical than electrical.

No one thought it might have something to do with the HICAS?

I have the same switch in my 32, but I don't have cruise control. But I do have HICAS, and part of the HICAS diagnostic involves using the clutch.

As far as cruise control is concerned, the cruise control module has a cable connected to the other wheel on the throttle.

As well as the "set", "resume", etc buttons, it also has switches attached to the clutch (in a manual) and the brake. So if you brake or change gears during cruise control mode, the cruise control is instantaneously disengaged, and the throttle is released.

Ok I disconnected it when I went out to get fuel tonight, no HICAS light or any other side effect so far.
