yeh i know how you feel mate, i just had one of these cleared about a month ago..

same situation. had an officer following me around while i was looking for a car space on keilor road, middle of the day. he obviously didnt feel the need to pull me over, but still ended up getting an EPA exhaust test notice in the mail.

Is there any chance your exhaust will pass with the exhaust you have on?

Lol at noise test :) Ive had 2 full epa's and 1 noise test, and 2 defects just this year hahaha. Noise test is piss to pass :)

I reckon my car might have some trouble passing >.< I got pulled over last night by two totally reasonable cops, or so I thought, Hamish reminded me I should probably expect an EPA notice in the mail. It's gonna cost me I can feel it. At least, they didn't pop the hood or look under the car...

Depends what kind of EPA notice Chris. Hopefully its a noise test because i think for them to send you out a full epa they would have to see something wrong under the bonnet. My full epa came from reasonable cops who seemed really nice at the time and told me i wont get one LOL. Would you take the turbo and everything off yourself? Matt (Femno) does all that work for me and he is very reasonable at pricing. Think its $300 each way to swap things like Turbo, Injectors, Afm, remove boost controller, powerfc. So its not that bad.

yeah ive had 2 full epas and one noise epa and 4 defects this year lol, but ye if its the noise epa then you got nothing worry about a stock exhust and done but if full one and you have aftermarket stuff then your in for a headache, and it doenst matter if they check your engine or not all my epas have been from not even being pulled over, ive basically worked out if they hear a flutter or bov theyll send you a full test but if just hear your loud exhust theyll send a noise test anway good luck hope its a noise test

Cool, I didn't realise noise test was so easy to pass. That's good news. I reckon it would be noise test only if it comes at all, as I was babying it. I kinda knew they were stalking me.

Only problem with swapping turbos around, etc, is gonna be access to little missing parts ey. Figured Chasers or whoever would have all that shit handy. Matt's price is very reasonable, definitely worth it if it comes to that and if he has the time :merli:

If you need help i have standard turbo, front/dump pipe, ecu, injectors, afm. Everything you need to make it pass :D

hey mate, i have one you can borrow, just pm me your number and ill get back to you asap.

i have a full cat back if thats what you need.

regards

Baset.

ps. im close to the ring road.

cheers Baset, someone offered me a stock exhaust for sale, so might grab that one instead for peace of mind....

just hated thinking bout it, eventhough its only a "noise test", i can not believe it as i only drive my car on the weekend...but still lucky enough its not a FULL TEST...

Victorian law sucks balls really :ermm::)

my case was, they saw my car drove pass and THEY THINK it was excessive noise from my exhaust or faulty exhaust system, and took my number plate and send me these stupid noise test :) ....

i have a cannon type of exhaust on, and i went to one of the exhaust tester, told me its too loud to have it on, he said, i just need to stick back the standard muffler on for test and do the certificate and put the cannon back on again ;):ermm: ..lolz... which is great...so hopefully ill get it done asap...

bad luck dude, i got epa'd a month after getting my car. bloody BS tho, they did me in an underground carpark at knox. they got me at 93db on 5000rpm. i slapped on the stock exhaust cat back (not stock cat tho) and i got 89db. i got the full standard exhaust at home if u still need it

Ok so this was a good thread I found in regards to my search so rather than start a new one I thought i'd add to this one.

I got my first EPA notice for exhaust noise about two weeks after getting my R33. Points to anyone who guesses already where i'm going with this.

Bought car with registration

Registered car must be sold with RWC

EPA notice 2 weeks after purchase

RWC lasts 30 days

EPA'ed while still having a valid RWC

Can I use that to fight off this bullshit EPA notice? It clearly states an exhaust system and emissions pass on the RWC.

nope EPA and RWC are separate, no noise test during a RWC

I'll add to this that...your RWC is also useless against defects and notices of unroadworthiness. Even if it's a few hours old...for the simple reason that nothing can prove you didn't do the unroadworthy modifications straight after obtaining RWC.

    • Have you done the Ignition Sync Wizard in the AEM software?
    • Find out what RPM it was idling at with the IACV unplugged. It's very weird that the rpm didn't change at all, and then it stalled. When it stalls is it nearly like a switch off, like you've turned the engine off? Or is it more stutters and sputters and coughs to death over a few seconds? Or does the RPM just slowly keep going down and down? Have you done a test of trying to start it with the AFM unplugged? Does it still die?     If you Follow Josh's advice on using Nistune to check the voltages (which is a perfect method!) if you see anything out of wack voltage wise, THEN get the multimeter out and read the voltage directly at the sensor. If the two vary, then you're now looking for a wiring issue vs a sensor issue. So be aware, what the ECU sees, may not be what the sensor is actually saying too...
    • You very likely need to get it on a dyno and tune it. My assumption is, you've got an RB25DET tune in it, which has a different manifold, different injectors, and different cams as a minimum. What O2 sensor are you running?   When you say it runs extremely rich from idle all the way to redline, is this just free revving it you see that?
    • I seem to the be only person that is using a Haltech 2500 on an NA motor, I've installed a Bosch DBW throttle body to the OEM intake manifold and am having problems maintaining AFR even with the wideband o2.  It will run extremely rich at idle and up to redline, but under load it will go extremely lean in the 20s and i'm essentially having to rev it over 4k and feather the clutch to get it up to speed.  I've read a few other threads of about the butterfly, it seems removing the vacuum to it is supposed to have it remain open, i've noticed no difference under 4k with the vacuum line to it plugged.  I'm hoping someone here has had luck using the NA manifold with Haltech, and if they happen to have a tune for it.
    • I don't know any details, but I really wouldn't be surprised if they do it as a LHD only version, at least initially.
