The Bogan
G,day, finaly got L2S but not sure where to go from here, Im looking at doing track days-gymkhana type events and stuff but not sure whats needed for anything else, CAMS website is useless as I cannot find any other info. Any info is most appreciated Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/291527-l2s-licence/ Share on other sites
sh@un
don't need anything else unless you are looking to drive for an actual competetive race team. L2S licenses only cover you for club drive days, which CAMS classes as 'driver training days', hence why no actual door-to-door racing takes place Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/291527-l2s-licence/#findComment-4874653 Share on other sites
evil_weevil
Thats it, Mark if you want to do supersprints, hill climbs, drift, motorkhhana's etc the L2S is perfect! Now you just have to wait till an event comes up and enter it!! CAMS class them as speed events. You will need an extinguisher, blue triangle indicating battery position, and secondary bonnet restraint (depending on scrutineer's interpretation) as a minimum on a road registered car. benm
Now you just have to wait till an event comes up and enter it!! ...and where do we wait for these events to come up? The track websites are hopeless, unless an event is listed in the nsw/events section how else do we find out about these events being held? I'd love to try a hillclimb but dont even know where the hillclimb tracks are let alone how I can participate. hrd-hr30
google "hillclimb nsw"??? pretty sure there is a site dedicated to the NSW hillclimb championship which will have all the clubs contact details you need. most will run club rounds as well. Get onto their mailing lists and your set. there are heaps of venues in NSW. 2 at Bathurst run by Bathurst Light Car Club, King Edward Park at Newcastle (MG), Bulladelah (sp? & no idea what club that is) are a few that instantly spring to mind. djr81
If you want the events that are on go to the cams website under the clubs ection under events & pick your state: http://www.cams.com.au/Sport/Events/Event%...;to=&page=1 As for the secondary bonnet restraints - I have never had anything other than the standard bonnet - no clips, belts or any other 'secondary device'. Reason being is there are two restraints already built in to the bonnet - which is why you have to pop the bonnet then go around the front & release it. JZA80 Supras have 2 seperate catches standard, one on either side of the bonnet, but some CAMS scrutineers still wanted another form of bonnet restraint! better to have one and not need it than vice versa. If you are interested in doing state hillclimbs and or supersprints you really need to register for them. That way you get e-mails giving you all the forms and dates. The state supersprints usually allow 100 cars a meeting and we had 140 registed entrants this year so not only do you have to be quick entering but if your not registed you have almost no hope. Hillclimbs on the other hand are almost never booked out,,,in fact they can't get enough entrants. Here's 2 sites for your perusal. http://www.supersprints.com.au/ http://www.hillclimbnsw.com/index.html Harry in NSW our scruts are happy with a standard Skyline locking system,,,your sructs must be arseholes. dat2kman
with your bonnet restraint, secondary, rather than drilling holes and fitting bonnet pins etc, and ruining the body work, you can quite adequately use a mens leather type waist belt, ie something sort of strong, with a buckle thingy, loop it through the top radiator support panel, and then through one of the holes in the ribbing on the underside of the bonnet, ( you may need to carefully cut a slit in the underbonnet ribbing, if there isnt two holes near each other/, then, almost close bonnet, reach hands in, do up bucle and finally close bonnet. i am a CAMS Scrutineer, this is sufficient for the type of motor sport you will use the L2S for The idea is to not have the bonnet fly up and block vision, etc. Even front hinged bonnets, when a car is going off the track BACKWARDS, can fly open, I have seen it done on a Datsun 240Z and a Mazda RX2 Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/291527-l2s-licence/#findComment-4880835 Share on other sites
Sir Lord Van Von Vader'ham
in regards to bonnet restraints, if you have bonnet pins does each one count as a restraint as they are independent from each other? nismoman
in regards to bonnet restraints, if you have bonnet pins does each one count as a restraint as they are independent from each other? Yes. Problem is, if you forget one pin, you're going to forget the other one aren't you? So then if you go out on track forgetting to lock your bonnet pins, whammo! Bonnet in your face. Seen it happen plenty of times. Keeping the standard latch in place has it's advantages. If you use bonnet pins without the standard latch, you just have to be dilligent and do a check before heading onto the track. Sir Lord Van Von Vader'ham
the intercooler now sits where the latch use to be.. however i have placed some springs around the pins so that you have to push the bonnet down when putting them in, otherwise it sits up a fair bit. Thanks! Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/291527-l2s-licence/#findComment-4883957 Share on other sites
