While we are on quick questions lol

Im looking at getting an RB25DET engine package that used to be an auto, will this matter for me? (going into R32 as a manual) I know you change the flywheel etc but what about the ECU...

you can use an Auto ECU with a Manual but not the other way around. The only thing that will be a pain in the ass will be getting the auto sp.i.got boss out of the end of the crank but it can be done. you will probably need (well it'll be easier) a manual loom from the trans to the EB relay box but you can adapt the Auto one if you want to.

Quick question..i know you can buy a trans cooler for your auto..can this also be hooked up into a manual transmission?

As for the Trans cooler question, no you can't because there is no pump to move the G/Box oil. With an outo it is basically a big pump so there is a pressure feed to push the fluid through the cooler but with a manual they rely on contact transfer to move the oil through the box and there is no pump.

In race cars that need a cooler in their manual trans's they run an external pump to move the oil around. They also run a thermostat as the oil needs to be allowed to get up to temp.

Why are you thinking of fitting a cooler to a manual trans, they don't need it unless your doing long stints (1hr+) on the track?

Thanks DStrils, if I get that one I may aswell just get another loom because they are pretty cheap. The reason it caught my eye is auto and 81k say tight motor to me...

edit: Had an epic dumb moment, its late ok :D

the engine looms should be the same it's just the loom that runs down the drivers side of the engine that the alternator, oil pressure switch, transmission etc run of that's different.

Main reason would be just to keep the manual box nice and cool. Im not exactly awesome with a manual, due to lack of experience, and wouldnt mind having some kid of insurance so i know that the box wont be rushing hot oil and such. I was just thinking this because i remember seeing the trans coolers on the gtr z-tune, and whilst looking pretty scmick, makes sense to me.

    • They are under bucket shims. Tomei provides a test shim kit and then any measurement of shim required. 
    • I always wondered how you were supposed to buy a set of 24 buckets and somehow magically have every single one of them yield exactly the desired clearance. I would have thought you'd need to assemble a cam with either 12 "sample" or "example" buckets of known top thickness (or a single such sample/example 12 times over!!) measure clearances at every valve, and then do the usual math to work out what the actual "shimness" of each bucket needed to be, before buying the required buckets to make up he thicknesses that you didn't have on hand.
    • I now seem to be limited in power due to my rev limit/hydraulic lifters in my built RB25. I'm looking into converting over to Tomei solid lifters. Question for anyone that has done the conversion. I was always under the impression that when using the Tomei solid lifter conversion, you would also require new valves (Longer or shorter stems, I can't remember which).  I don't know where I got this idea, as so far I see no mention of this in any of the Tomei documentation. It just states I need the Tomei solid buckets, solid lifter cams and upgraded springs. As my head is already built, all I would need is another set of 1000$ Kelford cams, 500$ buckets and about 4H hours of my time installing and I'm off to the races!?!? There's no way it's that simple, I must be missing something?
