How do the KU36's go in the wet? I'm after a daily driver tyre mostly. I have RE050A's @ the moment that have lasted me 49,000k so far from new. Great tyre but for $375 a corner its too much to justify.

Got a Quote of $275 for 215/45/r17 Adrenalins or $225 for the KU36.

RE001 will last shitloads longer, and you might want to shop around. Try Craig at Trackside, he is normally pretty good on price.

KU36 also need a bit of heat in the hills, RE001 not so much.

KU36 noticeably worn after ~5drives, RE001 I have gotten 40k km + out of

EDIT: didnt read the following:

OK so just rang back to book it in, Adrenalins 215/45/R17 are on special for $225 and 225/45/R17 $250

thanks for all the replies guys

he has booked it in for new tyres tomorrow

so all sorted

the wrx is a nice car to drive

i miss a standard clutch when driving his car

the headlights are amazing vs r33 = hopeless

my clutch and clutch pedal is hopeless vs stock :(

I just bought a set of Bridgestone potenza adrenalines.

245/30

265/45

i think something like that $350 for each front and $500 for each rear.... worth every penny, grippy as f**k and awesome in the wet

um that's a lot of sidewall at the back and not much at the front, you sure that's right? if so your going to have a fair bit of rake going on...

well its pissing down today and the KU36 are struggling... I'm not sure if its just the roads are greasy cos it hasn't rained in a while but they're having a bit of trouble putting down zee power... the attessa helps out but the rears still break away really easily... the car makes a fair whack of power so I don't expect miracles but they aren't the best wet weather tyre out there

Agreed, same experience for me today on same tyres of about the same age. OK, but not great. I'm in RWD car though with heaps of RWKW.

360kw atw here... it just wants to walk around and spin all 4... my old GTSt with 260rwkw actually put power down in the wet better than the GTR... mostly due to much softer rear suspension, less power and more linear boost curve... but it also had Hankook K107's which I rate highly, really good tyre too

KU36 good dry tyre though, I can shift 1-2nd at 8000+rpm really aggressively and it just grips and goes... it fully chirps 2nd... fully

KU36 are fine on wet roads, but shit on greasy roads if that makes sense....

but in the dry with some heat in them  i have baby power compared to all of you, but I used to have traction issues, and Now I can use first, second and third :ninja:

I don't really rate the Adrenalins that much. I had them on all fours but now only running them on the front with Kuhmo on the rear. At best the RE001 is average in the wet, no where near the amount of grip I got from Eagle GSD3

mate i know that the ku36 are pretty cheap but they are rated very low in terms of life. they are budget sticky tire and as a daily driver you won't be able to get many km out of them.

i put ku31 on my car as i regularly track it and its a daily(was running ventus k104 before) and find that they are doing fine. i found a bloke that does the ku series tyres in richmond and paid 150 i corner (r17 234/45) and he was the cheapest i could find. about 70 bucks cheaper each!

i think its advanced tyres next to ikea, pm me if you need the exact details and i will fish through my reciept book

anyone know prices on advan ad08s they released in australia now soo not as pricy as the ad07s

ad08's are drool worthy. If they weren't about double the price of the KU36's, i'd get them in a heart beat. I had ad07's on my old set of AVS Model 5's, 17's. Such an awesome tyre. Bit noisy but man, grip central. The AD08's just look awesome though. Traction Tyres has a STACK of them in their place... so demoralising

$500 per corner i was quoted at TT for 265/35/R18

For reference, as the OP has already sorted everything out, i got KU36, 245/40/R18 fitted/balanced for $1132. Solved my traction issues from the old bridgestones and held up fine at Sandown a couple sundays ago.

^^ indeed. i'm surprised no one has really recommended them but then i guess they are quite bloody expensive. had neova ad07s on my rear meisters on my last 32 and these things would not let go at all in the wet or dry. most likely the best tyre i've had on any of my cars. never noticed the noise but my exhaust was louder so don't really care lol.

    • Yeah I suspect even if you hold airmass per cycle/cylinder constant if you get too far away from stock you're still going to have problems running the factory tune within the bounds of the factory load scale. Cams, different displacement/rod ratio, etc. I'm just lucky that the GTIII-SS with wastegate boost + CA compliance cats is pretty much equivalent to stock turbos. When I have actual space I can finally get it tuned and modify the fuel system for flex fuel to 100% handle any detonation concerns when cranking the boost to whatever those dinky turbos can put out.
    • I would say no, why, because my daughter, who also lives in Goulburn, hasn't recommended us going there Pity, as we miss all the German joints around in Sydney, actually, the restaurants are the only thing I really miss about Sydney, and a special mention to Ishibanboshi at Bondi Junction, their Kara-age Don is heart cloggingly deliciousness (always added a special boiled egg...or 2) 😋
    • Does that German restaurant still exist in the old place out the NW end of Goulburn? When I say "out the NW end of"...I am really being vague. It was 1997 when I was last there, and the only point of reference I can recall is that it was on the opposite side of the main drag from the big merino. And when I say "opposite side of the main drag", I don't mean "on the main drag". It was either a couple of streets back from there, or might have even been out in the sticks a bit further. Was an old farm building or mill or somesuch. And when I say "the big merino" I might actually be thinking of a completely different part of town, because I just looked on maps and the big bugger is not where I remembered him to be! The food was good, consisting largely of various German mystery-meat sausage/loaf things and kartofflen.
    • So while the second sentence is completely correct and the whole point of the conversation, the first sentence bears consideration. If this bloke is just hoping to throw big turbos on and drive it around, because there are no helpful facilities at all in his tropical paradise** then he likely has zero chance of even knowing what the TP is on the last column in the stock maps, let alone know whether the ECU is operating anywhere near it or past it. So the point is very very moot. And, per what I said before, at stock boost on those turbos, you may well be off the end of the map. **I'm just back from Vanuatu, so I know exactly what small Pacific nations can be like wrt paradise without requisite facilities. But it's not even that simple. I put a high flow on my car and had to drive it around without a proper tune because of the lack of opportunity*** to put the bigger AFM and injectors into it to allow it to be tuned. I had to turn the boost down to less than I had before, and back off the boost controller's ramp, because it was exploring parts of the map that it didn't drive in before, and really couldn't access for tuning on the dyno either, and so was pinging. It was still well within the last column, because when I first**** set up the Nistune on the Neo I rescaled all axes of the maps to give some more space to explore. ***Family dyno was broken ****This was 13 years ago, and the TIM thing wasn't a thing then and so TP would definitely grow when pushing past the stock tune's limits.
    • Yep, this bit another local owner. I caught it before putting the transmission back into the car, what I noticed was the pressure plate fingers weren't flat and even. It's more obvious with the pull style clutch because the throwout bearing ring was visibly not flat once everything is put together. Nismo should really update their instructions to call out this specific detail. I'm not even sure the clutch as-shipped orients everything properly.
