James, I've told you what Weazy and I's impressions of the white R32 were but I won't air them out on here. Just incase someone knows the person. But for a car that would be streeted you wouldn't last very long. Straight cut box, triple plate clutch and HKS GTS-S make Regency your second home.

well i called regency about the straight cut gearbox for my car (GTIR) and they said they dont care about them.. maybe the other two.. not my problem im not getting it off defect :down:.. well not this time :D

id grab the n1, mod it to my tastes, and keep the stocker components so it can go back to original at some stage

any gtr in my hands would be completely mod'd anyway :down:

Owning an N1 is a blessing and a curse - on the one hand it's built for track work, but the reality is that they're definitely also appreciating assets. For reference's sake, I've bumped the insurance on mine by $30K since I bought it, purely based on the offers that have floated in from time to time, and that's just from Australia, I'm sure if I put some feelers out in Japan I could send it back and do pretty nicely out of it. (I'm not though, don't stress!)

Finding a 32 N1 that hasn't been tracked and is in excellent nick, is like running into the Loch Ness monster whilst out for a swim. You could probably count on two hands the N1s that have aircon fitted from the factory too.

If it was going in my shed, I'd put it back to stock and take it out on weekends every now and then for a fang through the hills, same as I do with my 34 now. My own N1 won't be seeing a track any time soon, the potential for disaster is too great, that's why I bought the Evo 8. But I don't keep it in a cocoon either - cars are meant to be driven, if I worried about what other drivers might do, I'd never drive any car.

James it really depends on what you want out of a car - if you want a daily and track weapon, don't buy the N1. If you want a weekender that will almost definitely be an appreciating asset (let's face it, that's pretty rare scenario in cars!), then the N1 is the way to go.

Yeah i think after talking to the guys at Extreme Horsepower over the weekend, followed by some serious thinking sunday night, I think my best bet at the moment would be either the black or white one. Simply based on the fact that i would like a car i can take anywhere, and with the N1 i would be petrified to leave it unattended anywhere. I am keeping my eyes open for the perfect car at the perfect price that will fit with what i intend to do.

Thanks heaps guys for your input, it made me asses more of what im after from a GTR. :P

Yeah i think after talking to the guys at Extreme Horsepower over the weekend, followed by some serious thinking sunday night, I think my best bet at the moment would be either the black or white one. Simply based on the fact that i would like a car i can take anywhere, and with the N1 i would be petrified to leave it unattended anywhere. I am keeping my eyes open for the perfect car at the perfect price that will fit with what i intend to do.

erm... N1. If you're just after 300rwkw, just get the N1. With minimal bolt on mods you can probably achieve that or close enough to it. And at the same time, you've got the pleasure of owning a rare gtr (ego boost. hahahaha). But if you're after big horsepower which requires engine work or massive mods, dont bother with the N1.

I'm saying this because my 33 is running 255awkw with stockies (ecu, boost controller and catbat are the only mods) but has boost problem and maybe fuel as well (inj. etc). With those sorted I'm sure I'll see 300 without any problem. Its only running 16psi too.

It is hard to predict what the Australian/global collectable car market will be like in the mid to long term future, but one thing is for sure, what is popular and desirable to the current younger generation will be even more so when they reach an age where they can afford what they desired in their youth. It is for this reason and the fact that they all have historical significance in Australian motorsport that GT HO's, XU1's, A9X's, GTS Monaro's and the like are so sort after and expensive in today’s market.

The genuine Australian delivered R32 GT-R's (all 100 of them) will only go up in price due to their rarity and link to an unforgettable era in Australian and global motorsport. I say global because even Nissan Japan recognised how significant the R32 GT-R was in Australia and transported the R33 GT-R over to Australia to take a bunch of photos of the car driving around Bathurst and then placed them in the sales brochures upon the R33 GT-R’s release in Japan.

The other rare GT-R models will also appreciate, the N1, the V-Spec 2, and so on, the rarer the model the greater the long term value. All lower specification models below the GT-R will struggle to generate interest as the years roll on by, particularly the non-turbo variants and the later V series cars.

If I were buying a car to enjoy on a regular basis and use as a primary or even secondary mode of transport to ‘tinker’ around with, I would still be happy to buy an N1 as a base. The important thing would be to avoid making modifications that were irreversible. If I were looking to buy a late model Skyline with the hope of making money out of it in the Australian market in the future, the R32 N1 would high on the list. There is no reason one should avoid buying a particular car as his or her everyday car or his or her weekend 'toy' just because it could be worth quite a bit to someone one day. If this were the case we wouldn't see many R35 GT-R's out and about, and every R35 Spec V would be wrapped in cottonwool and sealed in a vault.

James, for what is it worth mate, I say buy the N1, enjoy it, look after it as best you can, play around with it without ruining it, and enjoy the smile that appears on your face each time you remember how rare a beast you own.

    • Yeah, it's getting like that, my daughter is coming over on Thursday to help me remove the bonnet so I can install the Carbuilders underbonnet stuff,  I might get her to give me a hand and remove the hardtop, maybe, because on really hot days the detachable hardtop helps the aircon keep the interior cool, the heat just punches straight through to rag top I also don't have enough hair for the "wind in the hair" experience, so there is that....LOL
    • Could be falling edge/rising edge is set wrong. Are you getting sync errors?
    • On BMWs what I do because I'm more confident that I can't instantly crush the pinch welds and do thousands of USD in chassis damage is use a set of rubber jacking pads designed to protect the chassis/plastic adapter and raise a corner of the car, place the aforementioned 2x12 inch wooden planks under a tire, drop the car, then this normally gives me enough clearance to get to the front central jack point. If you don't need it to be a ramp it only needs to be 1-1.5 feet long. On my R33 I do not trust the pinch welds to tolerate any of this so I drive up on the ramps. Before then when I had to get a new floor jack that no longer cleared the front lip I removed it to get enough clearance to put the jack under it. Once you're on the ramps once you simply never let the car down to the ground. It lives on the ramps or on jack stands.
    • Nah. You need 2x taps for anything that you cannot pass the tap all the way through. And even then, there's a point in response to the above which I will come back to. The 2x taps are 1x tapered for starting, and 1x plug tap for working to the bottom of blind holes. That block's port is effectively a blind hole from the perspective of the tap. The tapered tap/tapered thread response. You don't ever leave a female hole tapered. They are supposed to be parallel, hence the wide section of a tapered tap being parallel, the existince of plug taps, etc. The male is tapered so that it will eventually get too fat for the female thread, and yes, there is some risk if the tapped length of the female hole doesn't offer enough threads, that it will not lock up very nicely. But you can always buzz off the extra length on the male thread, and the tape is very good at adding bulk to the joint.
