not for a hundred, no thanks

mate, cv/driveshaft joint does it for $110 i think

no way Id do that job myself. nup

Yeah I've had the outers done on the front both shafts preiously profesionally and I organised adams 260 and got that done too. But yeah as I said it was more a learning curve, wuldnt do it again!

  • 3 months later...

While under car fitting new FF plenum noticed split outer boots on both sides.

After going partly insane getting tho old plenum out, came here for some R&R.

I'll order the boots Monday, and book the local Mobile Mech (he is excellent) as reading this has put me off DIY. Thank you Chris.

Allrighty... I've had a split cv boot for a while know as some may be aware about threads on pulling shaftsDRIVE SHAFT REMOVAL and post from other bits and pieces in regards to boots...

So when can I bring mine around as I have only just found out last night my right hand one split and splatted over the inner wheel well

I'll be taking it to a mates shop after all that

Last time I did one was in 2001 on my Suzuki GTI but that was easy than this sounds

  • 1 month later...

Well I did my driver side inner CV boot today as I notice mine looked like it split but after taking to unit out the boot just slipped off.

I was going to take it to a shop to do it after they all said it will talk a full day to get it running again but as you have mate's that said that Bulls I bet you we'll be done in 1-2 hours max

so as you do take that bet on

So I followed everyone's tip to get this right the first time and it had made my life a lot easier as I couldn't not believe it needed a 36mm to undo the the nut on the hub but yeah it right as 36mm for a S2 as well.

After followed the steps and found the shaft wasn't that hard to pull out as some say come to think of it it was easy for me didn't need a second pair of hand so anyway fixed done and happy but I will need to replace all out and inner boots in time so have a mate looking to get me the GEN parts at a cheaper rate

And the bet They won just under 2 hour and we stopped for a smoko and beer so now I have to buy the beer for tonight party

Good bloody fun. Mobile mech $75, both sides, Kelpro boots COB 010.

Too easy.

All he had to do was

1 Take off hub

2 Separate bottom ball joint

3 Tie rod end

4 Swaybar Link.

    • Does it also misfire equally when revving?   Josh is very correct in what you should do. The coilpack harness wiring loom itself is a known problem due to its age and the number of heat cycles it has gone through. Throwing parts at a vehicle to diagnose the issue isn't a smart or good way to do it. Secondly, you may have a bad coil pack, you pop replacements in, they fix that issue, but messing with the harness breaks it, so the issue persists. So now you think "well it wasn't the coil packs" and have to continue chasing your tail, potentially swapping back in your shit coil packs and returning the good ones (yes, I've seen people do this because 'it wasn't the problem' and they want to save money). And suddenly, you've got two issues with the same symptoms...   Diagnose, don't use the spare parts shotgun.
