Ok. My A31 cefiro has a full cage which i know is illegal and cannot be engineered.

However, ive heard that half cages can be engineered.

I have also heard in 2 door coupes to engineer a half cage, the back seats need to be removed along with the rear seat belts.

If this is true. How does this work with a 4 door like my A31?

Can someone shed some light on this situation for me please?

You can't have a cage in a location where an occupant can possibly strike their head.

Your options are to get a removable cage, and only fit it for off-street events, or delete the seating positions where the cage is permanently installed.

You can easily get half cages Engineered/Rego'd in your state. You just work in the guidelines set out.

Simply talk to the relevant transport authority, or better yet, talk to a cage fabricator. They generally are the best people to talk too.

If the cage business says they do not know, go to one that does. A decent workshop that takes interest will know and be upto date with the laws.

I do believe you can get a half cage legal and retain rear seats.

I think you are NSW, so the Vic info i have won't help you.

The same basic rules apply for all states though - the cage mustn't be within a certain distance of the occupants (I can't remember the exact distance any more) and must be padded. I'm yet to see a decent cage design that allows anyone to keep the rear seats, so work on the theory that your car will become a two seater.

Yeah im pretty certain in QLD for registration cages have to be bolted in only and not welded. I'm looking into this for next year aswell as i want a registrable half cage that is cams approved.

what is the story on bolt in full cages? as in with the front hoops that go around dash?

emagine the looks from other drivers. :( so full bolt in can be legal if its plated / run as a half cage?

it is legal in victoria as long as you follow of the restrictions of how close the cage comes into the passenger zones.

edit, such cages would have to go through the dash, cages going around the dash(not only do they suck) but they wouldn't pass.

I recently got a new car and it has a full 6 point cage.

It is engineered and registered. I can get the details of the engineers report if anyone is interested.

I have also seen at my old work a 9 point cage in a GT3 porsche that was also engineered with removable side intrusion bars with very similar wording in it.

not true if my memory is correct when i spoke to brown davis he said only half cages are legal, and that he wrote the RWC conditions on roll cages so seems to know his stuff

having said this my memory may be wrong.

AFAIK it's often the mums with a baby attached that get hit because they drop lower when starting from a tree.     • Yeah we keep on in the dailies, it is pretty poor how many animals get hit and the driver leaves without checking....have saved a couple of little ones over the years. That needs to be kept but might be able to be relocated But the bad news, the big computer mounted vertically in front of the wheel (blocking any potential air exit) is the electric steering computer. That is required until/unless i do a hydraulic steering conversion, and in CAD based modern car design it is not like I can just pop a big unit like that somewhere else (plus the loom would be too short anywhere else too). So, the passenger side is OK to clear out (just use a smaller washer reservoir, potentially elsewhere), but the DS no beuno
    • Well, all the best with the new camry It was interesting to hear about the UK process, it is generally a lot more streamlined here with a shipping agent looking after all the import side (noting the exact final price can still be a surprise.....) and I've used a few different brokers on the japan (or US) side, and never had any trouble with any of them....luck of the draw I guess. You mentioned you didn't get the auction sheet (understandable since you bought it from a dealer, not auction), but I always try and get hold of that because they are pretty thorough. I've imported 2x R grade vehicles over the years and both were fine, repairs in Japan are pretty thorough compared to here in Oz.
    • BTW I measured the jack I have, it is 70mm at the saddle but you only have about 700 until it returns to 150mm high at the cylinder so it is good but no magic bullet.
