Heya everyone :D

I bought my first Skyline R33 (First V6, and first turbo for me) a few weeks ago.

She's stock as a rock bar the exhaust. I know very little about cars to begin with,

this is all a little beyond me :)

I've been asking around everywhere for quotes on things like remote alarm+install, CD player

install (put a Kenwood in, but radio not hooked up *sigh) , putting in new 6x9's and

new 6's (The speaker holes in the back have weird brackets over them that one person

says is for a baby seat and another says is for rear strut) Autobarn wanted to charge

$198 to put the 4 speakers in, price didn't include 6x9 spacers or the 6" bracket.

Also she blows a fairly rich petrol smell when warming up, it just hit 100,000km so

it's due for a major. One place said $1k, another said $750 not including Water pump.

Basically, can anyone reconmend a great place in Adelaide to go that won't try and

rip me off because I'm a newb?

Need speakers put in, full service/tune, pod filter, good alarm with Immob + install,

Turbo timer + install, boss kit + install. Also after a set of 17" rims, basic 5-6 spokes

would be nice. Hell on the cheap though lol :)

Also looking to replace the GTR wing with a lower spoiler, does anyone know if i'll need a new boot aswell?

Thinking i'll get the bonnet, boot & spoiler sprayed black.

So just want it finnished already lol, it's been such a head f**k simply trying to get the cd player

put in (blew the 5amp tlight fuse grounding the CD player) and a front strut (1 nut was stuck on,

used every tool under the sun to get it off inc hydrolic nut splitters.. ended up using an angle grinder)

I really love her heh, especially after driving a 4c 1.8 Calibra for the last year and a bit.

Hi awsam & welcome to SAU.

To help you survive these forums, have fun, get some answers to your questions and learn about the joys and agony of owning a Skyline I'll give some advice/direction:

You should have started here: Newbie Introductions

You should use this whenever you have a question: Search Function

And you should read these: SAU Guidelines

But to answer some of your questions most here would recommend Boostworx for a RB25. Inputting +recommend + workshop into the above mentioned search function returned this result. As you can see there are many threads covering this topic. Have a read.

For car audio you get 10% discount at Autobarn Mile End & Ministry of Bass if you become a member of SAU-SA. (That was a plug for SAU-SA & the sponsors not a recommendation for or against).

I have heard good things about the audio work that SAU member Jack88 does but have never met the guy personally. I would suggest you PM him when you have enough posts.

Top bloke

Welcome and have fun with the skyline.

As for the 17s i have some and want 18s, would recommend you get some put on your car first to see otherwise you will be disappointed if you don't like the 17s and is costly to buy more and headache trying to sell 17s.

GTR wing is quite expensive so don't give it up for nothing, lots of people would want it. I have one on my car and wouldn't swap it personally, i like the look of it. As does Mitch ^^

GTR wing > All

Welcome aboard mate

as David pointed out the in my opinion best place for major/minor servicing is boostworx always happy to chat about your pride and joy and explain mods to you and why you need them

Ric @ Auto Perfection main north rd looks after the skyline boys nicely

Marvey Tech will hook up your sound needs

welcome aboard, for places to get stuff done,

Mechanical - i have been using Fours N More for the past 5ish years, built, put in, tuned and everything else you could imagine they have done to the RB25 in my r31 drift car. 82602011 is their number and Brenton is who you want to speak to. Tell them Luke that drifts the R31 sent you and they should take care of you. They do alarms too.

As for audio, Jb's at modbury have a really good installer if he is still there, havnt worked there for about a year now so not sure if he still there, but did alot of custom work and basic installs too, they can sort you for the alarm too. If you head in there talk to Pep or Kahul in the car sound section and again tell them Luke that used to work in the games section sent you in and they should help you out.

Best of luck with it all, sounds like your gonna turn it into something nice.

welcome, sorry but lol at the v6 comment :/ first good piece of info from sau u have now recieved

ull note if u pop your bonnet the engine looks kinda skinny n long, then go pop the bonnet of say a holden commo and youll see its engine is a lil shorter n wider.....like the drivers rear end.

and that twink guy, avoiding chicks n what not...

marvey tech workshop next to morpowa is up for lease, not there anymore.

You sure Craig? There's two buildings there, one with John from Marveytech in it, then one that Morpowa use for storage. That's the one up for lease I beleive

Yeh i've had a look on Ebay and they sell for quite a bit more than the regular low smooth spoiler you see more often. I saw what a friend said was a drift spoiler? Only a couple of inches high, barely noticable.. but squared off the boot nicely.. I quite liked it.

Hey dude welcome, hope you sort your stuff out. everyone here is pretty helpful smile.gif

Did you get mats with the car, i have mats, you want mats? tongue.gif

Yeh, has all the official "skyline" mats, front, back.. even one in the boot :)

welcome, sorry but lol at the v6 comment :/ first good piece of info from sau u have now recieved

Ha! Well I am pretty new to it all, didn't think there was a difference *facepalms LOL

    • Ha, well, it's been.... a bit of a journey. Things have taken much longer than I'd hoped. I'll probably put up a thread at some stage. Hopefully soon. The car's not done any kms since my update in June though, put it that way.
    • Here's the chart for fuel pressure vs. current draw, assuming your base fuel pressure is 3 bar and you run like 0.5bar boost on WOT, you should only momentarily hit 9amps here and there. (Ignore my prev post, I cannot read a chart these days it seems)
    • Those comp test results are not hideous. Whether they are accurate or not (ie, when that comp tester says 140 psi, is the real pressure120, 140 or 160?) is unknown to us. The state of the battery used to crank it over is unknown, etc etc. Many people around here would say that the absolute values and the spread are perfectly fine to just add boost and keep going. I personally would be happier with a narrower spread than that, but even the diff between 125 and 145 is not terrible. That one cylinder at 125 though, has probably copped some damage relative to the others. You should inspect the valves seeing as you've got it open. Do you know how to measure installed ring gaps? That, and an inspection of the rings themselves, is how you will determine whether they need to be replaced. If you're not good to do these things, take the block and the pistons and rings to a shop that is, and ask them for the go/no-go on them. Do the bores need a hone at all? If so, you might well be justified in getting some different pistons in order to get away from the ring supply problem. Whether you're happy to spend a lot more money right now, on more gear, rather than less money, but an amount that looks stupid given that you will only get a handful of rings in exchange for that money, is for you to decide.
    • also possibly backed up to my filler and shat down it! 🤣
    • Ok so i would love some advice here please, i purchased an R33 a few months back and its had a few mods done to the engine, its an RB25det running a Master ECU, 1200cc injectors, bigger turbo, oil cooler, oil filter relocation kit, Spool H-beam rods, acl/ross pistons. When i removed the motor from the vehicle (as its getting a respray) i thought i would compression test it and these are the following results. Cylinder 1-145psi, Cylinder 2-143psi, Cylinder 3-125psi, Cylinder 4-145psi, Cylinder 5-140psi, Cylinder 6-135psi this test was done with the motor on the ground and powering up the starter motor. I dropped the sump and found broken oil squirters on cylinder 3,5 and 6. I was told my rings are probably worn so i stripped the motor completely to get a new set of rings for it. The trouble is no one has these rings anywhere and they have to be custom made by Ross over in the states and will cost about $600+$200 delivery. My question is how can i tell if my rings are at fault and if they are still ok and is this price ok for a set of rings?
