I did something really stupid and cut the power cables inside the fuel tank to the fuel pump on the plug to the Walbro pump. Given that it has a harness rather than just direct wire on terminals like the Bosch units I had installed in the past :) I can't see any way to fix it without soldering bare cable which will be inside the tank. The risk of shorting is obviously a very serious problem so I will need to insulate it. Other than put the cable inside a piece of fuel hose, I thought there might be heat shrink that is resistant to fuel. I have found ISO 1817 heat shrink is what I need but I can't find any supplier in Victoria (Bursons, Pirtek and Repco). Any ideas?

In case you didn't know, petrol is very good a dissolving adhesives and breaking down a lot of plastics. I haven't tested the heatshrink I have as to whether it degrades but I am concerned that even after an hour it might not have changed, that doesn't necessarily mean it wont be effected 2 months later.

When i installed my Bosch 040, i extended the cables a little bit by soldering some extra on. I used heat shrink over the solder join, i checked the pump a few days later, and the heat shrink was still there. It should be fine, i got it from Supercheap Auto. If you really are concerned, get a glass jar, put some petrol in there with some heat shrink, put the lid on, and leave it a few days and see what happens.

Replace the plastic on the joiner with fuel line rubber hose then. But those plastic covered crimps are OK, I've seen them used in some hostile environments and they are unaffected.

The plastic crimps on joints SHOULD be fine, the wire inside the fuel tank is just normal electrical wire - I asked a Auto electrician before i did my 040 install. When i put the eyelets on my wire, it did have the plastic crimps on there, but i cut them off and soldered the wires to the eyelets as i wanted maximum connection, also didn't want them dissolving.

The sample in fuel didn't degrade over night. So I used heatshrink and then cable tied a piece of fuel hose over the top as well. I will take it off and inspect in a few months to make sure it's all hunky dory :).

    • If you mean the alarm immobiliser; theyre internal to the alarm itself which makes that difficult; I couldnt even see where he put it; its not in the same place as last time; but with all black wiring it might be very challenging to trace  I had someone turn the key for me as I know it only primes for a couple of seconds As my post above; I am getting no voltage to the pump at all; but I am testing continuity of the power line (SB) from the pump plug to the relay fine. As well as the negative from the pump plug to a 12V constant.    Yeah; he blammed the no start on a bad battery; said I needed to get a new battery and it'll start. Turns out the battery drained because the tail lights had been on for half the day during the install (the rubber cushion on the brake switch gave out while he was testing it as I have a picture of the car from that morning with the tail lights off..i've replaced that). The battery was turning over the engine just fine for a long time; but got low since lights were draining it so it was too low to test a start after he finished. I bought a new one on his advice...$250 wasted. My original battery charged up just fine and is healthy.    It was running perfectly fine when I messed up the old alarm (programmed out the remotes). He couldnt start it after removing the old alarm; my assumption is that when he unhooked it; he didnt bridge the circuit back when trying to start it. Its always been perfectly fine. The ECU swap and pump were 2 years ago. It's never missed a beat in that time.
    • This is a big issue for me without the diff. I just have zero drive from the passenger side when drivers side has no traction. Bec's parents place has a crazy steep driveway with odd camber and I have never been able to get up. My bro-in-law's 130i with an (unknown brand) LSD gets up fine as does their dad's Hiace. My car stays at the bottom. We have other odd camber roads around here as we're elevated a bit and if it's raining I can get totally stuck around some hairpins.
    • Yeah, I am super excited for this.
    • Was the car running before he touched the car?
