Who Here Can Help Me Install A Mechanical Lsd Into My Stock R33 R200 Housing?

Recommended Posts

As per thread: http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/In...Ls-t299495.html

I bought a LSD but do not really want to fork out $690 to install it by a professional. I thought about attempting it myself but people have warned me if the whiplash is wrong, watch it eat itself to death.

SO I am being precautious here :(

Anyone that lives near Fairfield want to help? I have tools and air compressor but no breaker bar nor impact wrench, alternatively, I can drive the car to your home workshop and we can knock it back there!

I will pay you for your time and help you take out the diff, ra ra ra :(

Cheers,

Johnny

i think you mean backlash?

I've learnt two things in the last few years. unless you can do the job 100% right your self, pay some one to do it.

for two reason. your dont get dirty and if it f**ks up they fix it(assuming they f**ked it).

cheers

yea i agree with runnin4life, things never ever go to plan with these things, best pay someone else to deal with the problems :ninja: - good luck with whatever you decide to do though :)

I got quoted $550 from a well known place that's with my diff dropped out and brought to them

where do you guys recommend? in Syd?

So are they pulling the diff out and putting it back in for that price? You would want to think so.

My just had his centres swapped over cost him $150, I think the place is called D&R in Chipping Norton. Might be wrong on the name.

For that price, I have to take the diff to them.. all they're doing is swapping the centres over, and supplying new seals and 'maybe' bearings for $550. They won't even fill the oil up, I have to do it on my own.

I'll search on the yellow pages for that lot and see how I go.

Cheers!

Got quoted by another place

$250 to install centre, re-use old bearings (I bring diff to them)

+$50 for new seals

+$40 to be filled with oil

give the guys at award diff and gear box a call, I cant remember how much he charged me but pretty sure it wasnt that much.http://www.hotfrog.com.au/Companies/Award-Diff-Gearbox-Services

if u can bring it to wollongong i can do the swap for $130 cash, as i have done a few inculding shiming my diff

if all that needs to be done is swap the centres

    • Thanks for doing that Duncan! Makes you a good person in my books. We don't get kangaroos or wombats here. But we have bats and it's similar. AFAIK it's often the mums with a baby attached that get hit because they drop lower when starting from a tree. If you hit an animal, check on it. https://www.ifaw.org/au/resources/wildlife-rescue-app An app to get the closest wildlife rescue contact.
    • My dream is also to have a proper hoist, but I don't think it will ever happen. My quickjack is probably as close as I'll ever get, it really is very good though.
    • Yeah we keep on in the dailies, it is pretty poor how many animals get hit and the driver leaves without checking....have saved a couple of little ones over the years. Bit of a gruesome job though, pouches generally need to be cut open because they are so tight and often the joey doesn't realise mum is gone so they are still locked onto the teat. I checked the modules in front of the DS wheel where an oil cooler should go.... There is the radar unit - that can go for race use) One of the 2 HX water pumps, the silver cylinder. That needs to be kept but might be able to be relocated But the bad news, the big computer mounted vertically in front of the wheel (blocking any potential air exit) is the electric steering computer. That is required until/unless i do a hydraulic steering conversion, and in CAD based modern car design it is not like I can just pop a big unit like that somewhere else (plus the loom would be too short anywhere else too). So, the passenger side is OK to clear out (just use a smaller washer reservoir, potentially elsewhere), but the DS no beuno
    • Well, all the best with the new camry It was interesting to hear about the UK process, it is generally a lot more streamlined here with a shipping agent looking after all the import side (noting the exact final price can still be a surprise.....) and I've used a few different brokers on the japan (or US) side, and never had any trouble with any of them....luck of the draw I guess. You mentioned you didn't get the auction sheet (understandable since you bought it from a dealer, not auction), but I always try and get hold of that because they are pretty thorough. I've imported 2x R grade vehicles over the years and both were fine, repairs in Japan are pretty thorough compared to here in Oz.
    • BTW I measured the jack I have, it is 70mm at the saddle but you only have about 700 until it returns to 150mm high at the cylinder so it is good but no magic bullet.
