Hey all, first of all I did search for this, but I got mixed results.

How much power does the N/A RB25 make stock standard in a r33 or r34?

From what I understand, I've heard things from 90kW all the way to 150kW... I'm guessing its around 120kW?

Cheers, Jimbo

Are you sure you searched properly? lol this question is everywere.

r33 - 140kw@fly

VCT - 147kw@fly (series 2 NA) or type s variants

r34 - 147kw@fly

I think even some rare r32s came with a NA rb25 which was about 130kw@fly?

My RB25DE in my R32 dyno'd @ 115rwkw. Your mum's magna/verada or whatever is heavier, handles like crap, looks like crap and is FWD. I wouldn't even compare the two.

Yes I agree with you; it looks like crap and FWD is a downside. But, it doesn't handle like crap... http://www.autoweb.com.au/cms/A_1781/title...TV/article.html

I would have thought that 163kW was pretty good for an N/A, but no, I would never own one..

i disagree after owning 2 v6 magna's. sure they might not handle quite as well, but they aren't that much heavier and have much more torque to make up for the extra weight. the on;y model that is sluggish is the 4 speed auto (5 speed auto is fine) and that is because it has ridiculously tall gearing. i'm talking 150kmh in second. seriously, people take these to the drags and can cross the line redlining second gear.

as for fwd being a bad thing, that is a highly uneducated response that gets thrown around way too often these days. basically it is said because you can't be some fuli hektic drifta wannabe in a fwd car, but who really cares?

Jimbo

There is a difference between power at the fly and power at the wheels, dont get confused.

yeah, as a very rough rule, flywheel kw = hp at the wheels (then divide by 1.34 to get kw at the wheels). but as i said, it's a rough rule and doesn't work for everything

A verada would be quicker then an N/A line anyway. Honestly if you're buying a car to "beat other cars" an N/A Skyline shouldn't be your choice.

+1. my manual 3.5L magna with just a catback ran a 14.8 at willowbank. also outright power doesn't mean you are going to beat something with similar power. so many other things come into play. i'd put money on my 88fwkw pulsar keeping up or beating half of the skylines on here that are making more power, for the simple fact that it weighs about 200kg less.

Would you agree that if you want a "fast street NA" you'd be better off dropping your unsprung mass and upgrading your tyres rather than chasing pitiful NA power mods?

P plater Falcodores pull up beside me all the time with 4 people in their car, monster subs rumbling in the boot AND 20" solid chromies and rev their engine at me. Do they assume that all Commodore/Falcons are automatic drag cars?

I'd love to see a little pulsar with a lightened flywheel, 6kg rims, all unneccesary weight removed and grippy tyres take off one day. I reckon it'd put quite a few cars to shame.

Pulsars aren't all that spectacular, a mates pulsar has exhaust, extractors, cams,NIStune, light rims, l/w flywheel, hd clutch and my car and a mates commodore are still a lot quicker then his. I know for a fact that a 25DE R33 with catback and pod can edge out a stock VX V6. Peak HP and power/weight ratio aren't everything, gearing & torque are IMO more important and then the driver comes into play.....hell i know people with WRX's that wouldnt be able to beat an excel from how shit they drive.

well then your mates pulsar is crap (more than likely the tune), unless of course it is either the 1.6L or an old 1.8L, because a sr20 with nistune, poncams, and full exhaust should be putting out around 110kw at the wheels (which has little to do with the cams as they only give about 4kw up top but give 7 or 8kw to the low and middle), and able to run mid 14's with slicks. there is even 1 or 2 into the 13's that are still natro and just have headwork ontop of the cams, exhaust and nistune. there are a few into the 14's with street tyres and plenty running very low 15's still on stock ecu and cams on street tyres.

and from my experience, with my pulsar putting out about 88kw at the wheels from just full exhaust and panel filter, it can adequately keep up with commodores or NA skylines. and if the skyline is an auto it will do more than keep up.

All your comments are all true, but at the end of the day I will be on my P-Plates, and I don't want to lose my license. So until then, I'm sure 120kW's will be more than enough. There's something about Japanese cars that I love, and I just can't see myself driving a Magnafalcodore..!

    • BOVs do have a purpose, if you ever log pressure before and after the throttle body, you will see a spike pre throttle on lift off from a WOT condition. Enough to bend throttle blades / damage e-throttle motors or simple assist in blowing off cooler pipes. FWIW, the above on really applies to those running at least 2 bar of boost. OP shouldn't have an issue, on the other hand, here are some videos of my shit box over a decade ago with some succulent dose with the airbox on and off. That shit box is unrecognisable these days 🫠
    • I've tried all different combinations of BOVs/ no BOV and stock bypass valves over the years, on gear changes the stock bypass valve seems to get the car back on boost quicker because in part the turbos wheel speed isn't being slowed down by reversion, although they have issues holding boost much over the stock setting. Most aftermarket BOVs you can adjust the spring, tighter will make it open later and close sooner, but in my experience it'll cause a bit of flutter at low load/rpm anyway. I've also got some input into this whole no bov causing turbo wear, never had an issue on any on my turbos HOWEVER, I got my R33 GTST with 200k kms on it, with from what I can see still has the original turbo, no lateral shaft play but has about 4-5mm of play in and out which to me seems like a worn thrust bearing from years (100-150k kms?) of turbo flutter running no bov, so maybe there is some truth to it in the long run. But that'll never stop me loving the Stutututu while I have the car.   OP just wants to know if he can run a atmo vented BOV with no major issues and the answer is YES, plenty of people do it, there's no harm in installing it and seeing how it runs before spending $$$ on an aftermarket ecu, last time I bought a Nistune it was $2400 for install and a tune , unsure of todays prices but you get me. Crazy money to spend just to fix the minor inconvenience of stalling that can be overcome by letting the revs come down to near idle before putting the clutch in or a little bit of throttle to avoid it. You're better off leaving the ecu and tune for after a bigger turbo/injectors have been installed to take full advantage of the tune and get your moneys worth.   Let OP have his Whoosh sound without trying to break his bank haha
    • I see you missed the rest of the conversation where they have benefits, but nothing to do with avoiding breaking turbos, which is what the aftermarket BOV made all the fan boys, tuners, and modders believe was the only purpose for them...
    • But they do so for the other reasons to have a compressor bypass. It's in the name.
