hey guys im havin some problems diagnosing whats causing my car to play up.

ill list what is happening and what i have checked.

problems: constant whit/blue somke out the exhaust.

wont hold/make max boost

miss firing

motor fluds with oil when gets hot.

when i took the intake pipe off the turbo there was oil all over the inside all the way to the pod filter

goes through alot of oil.

things i have checked: no shaft play in turbo

just disconnected the oil catch can and put it back to standard to check.

called hypergear to ask about it all and they suggested the the catch can bisso because of the turbo not havin shaft play so they dont think its a oil seal but thats what the previous owner said it was.

the turbo is a garret t04 hyflowed with bigger wheels.

would be much appreciated for a few suggestions to try out. cheers guys

Well. I don't felt the right to charge you $440 to replace some thing that doesn't require to be done.

Your engine's leaking oil all over the places not just the turbo.

So get you engine oil, catch can and all other issues fixed fist. We will have a look at your turbo if its still making blue smoke by then.

Can you elaborate on "motor fluds with oil when gets hot". What do you exactly mean by this? What oil is in the vehicle and when did this start happening? Did you do something the last few days before this started happening?

how did you install the catch can?

once had a perfectly good turbo shit a seal because a catch can got installed with no breather, 2 outlets on the rockers to 2 inlets on the catch can and no breather anywhere lol... insta-goodbye T28BB :)

was there a way for your catch can setup to breathe properly? or have you made a similar faux pas

Well once you clear breathers and fix other issues to allow oil drain back into the sump, the turbo will stop smoking.

In most of cases If the turbo's got no shaft play and leak oil through both seals its means there is a oil drainage problem. Once fixed the turbo stops smoke. No need to pay $$$ and overhaul a good turbo.

in my case the catch can was only connected wrong for a total of 30 seconds, and the car would drop its sump out the exhaust from milperra to ramsgate it was spewing out oil so bad... irreversable damage to the seals.

this could be the case here, yet yes agreed with hypergear, trial and error try fix whats blocking up if there is and go from there.

Is your PCV blocked by chance?

I had a smoke issue with my RB25 when i had it set up with a blocked PCV valve catch can setup.

Put the stock PCV valve back in, and it went away and never came back.

Only issue is being at idle i can occasionally get rev fluctuation due to the atmo venting breathers.

(because the pvc is connected and gets a bit of un AFM'd air via the breathers :) )

yea cheers guys for the tips and sorry stao i hope you didnt take any of this as badmouthing you i was just sayin what ya said and what my mate said. yea i also couldnt hear ya propperly over the phone because i had shit service and a bit of wind around me. will check all the lines from turbo for blockage's and might just get a new catch can to eliminate that as i issue but the one i got has a breather. also ill get onto a compresion test to see how that is. who knows could also be sparkplugs gunked up from having oil goin through there thats causing the missing. thanks heaps again for the help and ill be in contact with ya stao if all this dont work.

have you done a compression test? I think you've got a busted ring land.

I am in agreeance with you there..

if you can pull the turbo off...if the exhaust manifold is full off sludge then its rebuild time. or the easier way would be to get a comp and leak-down test done.

    • Hey keep the ideas coming, I'm always keen on projects! But, problem fixed!  I got a cheapie ozito scope from Bunnings and had a good look in and around the bearing and sensor hole. I couldn't see a smoking gun but the bearing looked a bit strange, especially when comparing with a new one. I thought the cover had come off the bearing magnets.  Sorry for pics of a screen, I didn't have an SD card.     Good thing I had the old one to inspect. So, given I'm like a pit crew with wheel bearings and luckily I had a spare bearing because I f**ked up my parts order, I decided to just smash it out. Got the old one out in about an hour. So much easier when the parts haven't had a chance to rust together yet. 😂 And, well, found the problem.    In the second pic at about the 8 o'clock position, you'll see what I think is the tip of the old sensor.  The new sensor has definitely been rubbing but it's all intact, just a little shiny so I'm hoping it's fine.  The car brakes perfectly now and no errors.  I think the job took about 2.5h in the end. 👍🏻 I really appreciate the help in here as usual. Thanks guys.
    • I was only looking because I saw some drops on the ground but it wasn't alot. Recently had it serviced will ask the mech to confirm. Find it strange that it looks standard though, can see in another photo of a random box
    • So...not sure if you know if that has always been there or why you went looking. It could be old damage from a clutch explosion, or even just the gearbox got dropped somewhere along the line. Basically, you should seal it up to stop oil and dust getting into the bellhousing, but it doesn't matter too much and is not structural. I'd suggest something like a glob of JB Weld. BTW what gearbox oil are you running, I would guess the breather has been spewing it everywhere.
    • Hey Duncan thanks for your reply. Sorry mate I know the photos are shit.  Took another photo for reference. Seems the casing does have a hole in it looking on the net, fluid seeping out. Added a photo
    • Very hard to make out what you mean, is it the squarish hole with redline shockproof (probably) under it? Is that pic from on top of the engine with the firewall to the left of pic and engine to the right? Either way, spray the area liberally with degreaser and try again, maybe circle the part you are worried about
