I'm shopping for a GT-R. I've been quoted $182k drive away from the dealer at Nissan Dealership in Brisbane. It's just so hard to justify this price when my buddy in Las Vegas bought his for $US90k ($AU98k) at the Nissan Dealer there. Seriously. I know we we have luxury car tax here and GST, but I feel like I'm getting raped in my bottom by paying an extra $80k.

Would I be an idiot to buy a 2010 model ADM for $182k?

Does anyone know how to import a JDM?

This site imports the GTR - how about this? http://www.prestigemotorsport.com.au/modul...hp?StockID=4856

White R35 for $108k imported minus customs.

Id def wait and get the 2nd series australian car with the upgraded suspension, tranny cooler etc etc...

Dont buy the current car for anything over 165k.

When is 2nd series out? I thought the 2010 model did actually include the upgrades. Now I'm confused.

Thanks for the import website recommendation. $108k + customs will be about $120k

So now I need to decide...

Is the 2010 ADM model with 3 years warranty worth $60k more than a 2008 JDM model with no warranty, some scratches and no tires.

I'm wondering the same questions??? when is 2010 GTR available to be purchased and delivery timeframe??? also, why are some people/dealers trying to charge more than a dealership sells the car new???

Also, be careful..........I read that the JDM Models will NOT be covered for ANY Technical Support by Nissan Authorised Dealerships.....so just be careful and be aware of Warranty issues if you go JDM Import!!!

Preference is Gun Metalic premium model. I'm reasonably flexible on this though.

I would only track it once every 2nd year or so. Not often.

Purpose is daily driver.

Then buy something else. If you read enough of the threads here you will discover that the GTR only comes to life on the track - and what Nissan Australia are doing to owners before and then after 1 track day is akin to being raped ($12k to replace rotors & brake pads because the brake pads have begun to crack!). The GTR is just too competent a car for daily use and you won't get to experience its real driving thrills.

***Disclaimer*** I have never driven a R35 GTR. All of the above comments are based on reading nearly every thread on SAU, NAGTROC & GTROC UK relating to the R35 GTR and discussions with R35 GTR owners.

Yeah, and no LCT either and that adds to something like 25K or so on top of 108K, so its still near 140K.

Don't forget you won't get the super-dooper headlight washers either - those would be badly missed :)

I totally understand your logic. GT-R needs to be a tracked to be appreciated. This is more an emotional decision though.

I find it funny, how people are saying that the R35 is too quiet and doesn't give you that rush like older GTR's did/do.

Sorry to say, the R35 GTR, is a car made to be a mix of both Performance and Luxury.

The Performance side doesn't need to be questioned really, we all know it "goes like the Stig".............

the Luxury Side has also received HUGE improvements since the R34 was designed more than 10yrs ago. Technology has certainly increased dramatically, with better Ride Quality, Sound Proofing, Exhaust Notes, Materials used etc etc

Comparing an R32, R33 and R34 to an R35, is like comparing a VB Commodore to a new VE Commodore!!! and Comparing a Modded GTR to a Stock GTR is about the same!!! (I remember my Stock R33 GTST was VERY quiet, when I first had it, after a few mods, it felt and sounded like a totally different car!!!)

Exactly. This is what sells it for me. It's luxury and performance. And I love that it doesn't sound like your typical ricer. I like receiving attention, but not because it sounds loud.

I've noticed a few discussions on this forum about the logic behind not buying an R35. The truth is, nearly all cars priced over $100k are going to be mostly an emotional decision.

Thats right eastes......its a purely emotional decision, otherwise if it were financial, I would just keep my Evo 9 hahaha.

Soooooooo........has anyone got an answer for me and eastes yet???? HAHAHA i.e. Is it better to buy a JDM GTR for say $140k, with no Warranty/Help from Nissan if something does go wrong....or do we buy a new ADM GTR for $180k, with Aust. Warranty, Nissan Aust Servicablity for life etc???

Factor in another $26000 for a new transmission, which is bound to fail within 3 years. 2008 car already has two years under the belt so you will

buy a time bomb with no factory warranty and a 1 year fuse which has already been lit by some kamikaze in Tokyo with a need for speed.

I suggest you get very friendly with Martin at Willall Racing, you will be needing his services, sooner rather than later.

Yeah, and no LCT either and that adds to something like 25K or so on top of 108K, so its still near 140K.

Plus stamp duty and rego adding another $6-$8K depending on which state. This makes it less than $20K less than the Aus delivered driveaway car plus its a 2007/8 model with 253kW and the 4500 rpm launch control compared with the 257 kW with 3000 rpm launch ADM car, plus or minus? You decide. Then you have to consider depreciation and interest/opportunity cost of the money. $20K extra at approx 8% lease interest rates means that interest alone accounts for another $1600 per annum lost on interest on the more expensive ADM car. However if the JDM depreciates just 1% more than the ADM this will compensate and your total cost of ownership will break even. I can't imagine the JDM won't depreciate more than 1% more than the ADM per annum personally. Then you have warranty to consider... My gut feeling would be to go for ADM simply because $165K is a good price for an almost new one now...I paid $167K for a brand spanker but not premium model and before the price rise for non "ordered before release" cars.

    • Even more fun, leave all the ADAS stuff plugged in, but in different locations, hopefully avoid any codes!   And honestly, all these new cars with their weird electronics. Pull all the electronics out Duncan, and just shove an aftermarket ECU and if needed a trans controller in, along with a PDM. Make it run basic but race car styled!
    • To follow up a question from earlier too since I had the front bar off again (fking!) This is what is between the bumper and the drivers side wheel And this is the navigator side, only one thing but its a biggy! So basically....no putting coolers in the wheel arches without a lot of moving other stuff. Assuming I move to properly race prepping this car I'll take that job on and see how the computers respond to removing a whole bunch of ADAS modules
    • So I prepped the car for another track day on Wednesday (will be interesting to see coolant temps post flushing out and the larger reservoir, with a forecast of 3-14 being 20o cooler than last time I took it out). Couple of things to mention; since I am just driving the car and not taking a support vehicle, I took the rear seats out and just loaded the back up Team Trackday style. Look at all that space! To cover off removing the rear seat....it is weird (note the hybrid is probably different because it wouldn't have folding rear seats) Basically, you remove the lower seat base, very similar to a r series but it is a clip that pulls forward to release the base rather than it being bolted down. Easy Then, you need to remove the side section of the rear seat on each side. There is a 14mm head nut at the bottom of the side piece, the it slides upwards off a hook at the top to release; you also need to unhook the seatbelt from the loop at the top. Then the centre piece is weird. You need to release/fold the seats forward with the tab in the boot on each side From there, there are 2,x12mm headed bolts holding the rear of each seat to the folding bracket, under the trim between the rear seat and the boot (4x christmas tree clips there, they suck). The seat is out but you can see where the bolts attach to the bracket
    • As discussed in the previous post, the bushes in the 110 needed replacing. I took this opportunity to replace the castor bushes, the front lower control arm, lower the car and get the alignment dialled in with new tyres. I took it down to Alignment Motorsports on the GC to get this work done and also get more out of the Shockworks as I felt like I wasn't getting the full use out of them.  To cut a very long story short, it ended up being the case the passenger side castor arm wouldn't accept the brand new bush as the sleeve had worn badly enough to the point you could push the new bush in by hand and completely through. Trying a pair of TRD bushes didn't fix the issue either (I had originally gone with Hardrace bushes). We needed to urgently source another castor arm, and thankfully this was sourced and the guys at the shop worked on my car until 7pm on a Saturday to get everything done. The car rides a lot nicer now with the suspension dialled in properly. Lowered the car a little as well to suit the lower profile front tyres, and just bring the car down generally. Eternally thankful for the guys down at the shop to get the car sorted, we both pulled big favours from our contacts to get it done on the Saturday.  Also plugged in the new Stedi foglights into the S15, and even from a quick test in the garage I'm keen to see how they look out on the road. I had some concerns about the length of the LED body and whether it'd fit in the foglight housing but it's fine.  I've got a small window coming up next month where I'll likely get a little paint work done on the 110 to remove the rear wing, add a boot wing and roof wing, get the side skirt fixed up and colour match the little panel on the tail lights so that I can install some badges that I've kept in storage. I'm also tempted to put in a new pair of headlights on the 110.  Until then, here's some more pictures from Easter this year.
    • I would put a fuel pressure gauge between the filter and the fuel rail, see if it's maintaining good fuel pressure at idle going up to the point when it stalls. Do you see any strange behavior in commanded fuel leading up to the point when it stalls? You might have to start going through the service manual and doing a long list of sensor tests if it's not the fuel system for whatever reason.
