That is great feed back to get. So it does have rust.... I think you could put a C210 in a humidity crib, and never drive it and it would still rust out :P

$10K? :):ermm:

I personally don't think he'll get that.

Be interested to see what someone will pay for it though, just wont be me.

The main areas are:

chassis sills and doors and along the sides of the roof.

The front guards were also prone (behind the wheel where it attaches to the sill)

Depending on the quality of the rubber seals in the boot, usually the spare wheel well, or the steel on either side of the boot (near the wheel well)

There are others, but I don't usually see more than that. Some have windscreens rusted out, but you don't know the history, as someone may have replaced the glass. The ones that I stated above are usually the ones that just happen due to poor design from Nissan

They can also get horrific rust in the chassis at the firewall at the corner of the engine bay, near where the bonnet mounts. If the windscreen leaks the dashboard can also corrode badly, taking the firewall with it!

The the metal clips in the rubber boot seal always rust - again often taking out the lip that it sits on - causing leaks, causing the wheel wheel, and hidy-hole for the tools and jack to fill with water, causing more rust etc... The bonnets rust really badly underneath at the front near the chrome trim.

To answer JDM's question, in short rust is a horrific problem for these cars.

It's not even a C210 GT-EX or what ever the turbo'd L20 version was. That's more desirable IMHO.

As far as i know the C210 2000GT-EX only came out in japan so would be quite rare in AUS.

Seriously considered going after this for about 5 whole minutes but them I thought of 33yo oil seals and hoses and prop shaft/diff seals and heater hoses and the non working A/C-"just needs gas" yep--sure and ?? wheel bearing seals etc , and the "not even driven to the shops" little old German lady ad infinitum--and I was outa there. :(

You know, I agree with this. The amount of people who advertise "body OK no dings/dints etc. and when you see the car in person it's stuffed really gets me down.

It's easy to live with those things. They can be fixed/replaced, old cars are relatively easy to work on. I've had my fair share of old muscle cars and they're piss easy to tinker. What gets me are people who say "body is perfect, not a ding or dent or whatever" but you see the car and it's not what they say it is.

Didn't meet his reserve first time around, so now one of two things will happen.

A) He lowered the reserve, everyone bids the same and it sells.

B) He didn't lower the reserve, but everyone tacks an extra $2000 onto their previous bid and the seller gets the money he wants.

Wait a minute...

C) He didn't lower the reserve, everyone bids the same, car doesn't sell again.

It'll be interesting to see what happens this time.

D) The same people don't bid because they were expecting a lower price to win. They obviously didn't want to go any higher, so perhaps a new bunch of people will now bid :D

Or not  --the thing has a few question marks over it now (as far as this posts subscribers may be concerned) and it may not be all roses and minty goodness, if I were an interstate bidder for this I'd certainly not punt until I'd had a good look at it 'in the tin' as it were.

I'd say you are on the money regarding a lower winning bid though.

Surely a max bid of half of what he was asking would come as a wake up call. When did anything pass in a $6000 in one week and sell for $11000 the next? Generally, relisted items work their way closer to a sale price of $0 with every auction that the item fails to find a home. I'm betting the the seller finds his pride and joy passes in for $5,500 this time around.

Meh, I was interested, but not now. I don't even care if it got sold for $6K on the knocker. Anyone who asks all the forums what the car is worth, and when told it's about $5k (classic skylines/skylines Aus/Ozdat, maybe more), and then thinks the price is going to be $10.5K due to a small minority who probably own one and want the price to go up so they can sell theirs? Forget it. He can keep it. I'll stick to trying to sell my 'reasonably priced' but willing to NEGOTIATE HR31.

Not that it make any difference, but both my 79 c210 coupe and my 81 c211 sedan had factory aircon. only my 77 coupe didnt, but it didnt have many boxes ticked at all.

cheers

Jason

    • Shouldn't need a "base map" for anything other than guidance to ignition tuning. You just need the engine capacity right, the injector size right, and something, almost anything, for a VE map. On an NA engine, fuelling is almost completely a function of load signal & rpm. It should run and drive with a completely flat fuel map. It will be too lean under load, but that's easily fixed. We used to tune all ECUs without any base map. There were no such things (until someone had tuned a near stock engine on one, and then they had a "base map".
    • What did you actually buy/how much did it cost? When I got mine in like.. 2017...? 2019? the aim was to run Torque for gauges via ODB2 and things like Track Addict/Laptimers/Dashcam/Reversecam/Spotify etc. Mine never broke, but I wonder if you've got the same needs (it sounds like it). Cause I liked the idea of being able to do anything with it. That said, yours also cost 3x the cost of what I spent so... food for thought.
    • For me there is a massive difference in manufacturer or big brand crippled android (Sony, Kenwood etc) vs the sort of thing I've installed here, which is basically just a tablet in DIN form factor with open Android, and the other model of course is mirroring - Android Auto/Carplay. I hate the locked down manufacturer and AA options where they decide what apps I'm allowed to install, including the Launcher but also importantly things like Ecutek (for this car) or Real Dash (Stagea) are not supported. Plus those crippled versions tend to be slower due to both overheads and lower spec hardware. On the other hand, when this breaks I'll likely be in trouble for support....but how is that different to owning an Infiniti anyway
    • Yeah, Duncan is helping sell me back to Android devices. I've hated the whole Android head units due to their speed issues. Even in my old Hyundai Kona (2022 model), it behind the scenes was Android, and slow and shitty to start up. Once running wasn't bad, but still a good 15 to 30 seconds.
    • My roof rails are off atm on the E39 until the rust is fixed. I did find another little bit of surface rust under the rails when I took them off. As @soviet_merlin said I'd just leave them alone unless you're planning on ensuring they're properly sealed. I was on the fence about leaving them off as the delete is still a thing in BMW E39's but I feel like the car is missing something (er, it is, der) with them off and I'm looking forward to putting them back on.
