dynafit
Hey ive recently been quoted a price for a 2000 skyline r34 GT non turbo, for an exhaust system. I was wondering if its worth the price, and if the components are any good? The quote is below. You will be looking at $1150.00 complete for extractors, stainless 100cpi hi flow cat and 2.5" system. mad082
sounds reasonable to me since it includes the extractors. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/307665-question-about-exhaust-system/#findComment-5081091 Share on other sites
R34 -_-
thats how much mine cost, it all depends on the muffler you put on coz that can be the most expensive part. dynafit
Well what would give me a nice sound without being so loud that cops hound me? I always see skylines with cannons and they aren't always deafening... dynafit
Thanks man I'll look into it. Also, if I'm planning to upgrade to turbo when I get off my p's will a 2.5" system with a 4" cannon be sufficient? Or will I have to upgrade? What's CPI mean? The exhaust system is 100cpi is that good? {Oo{34}oO}
search my friend search lol... theres a full section bout upgrading NA 2 turbo... and btw if the system u got quoted for has no mufflers or resonators??? on an NA that kinda exhaust on any car is gunna be well over the 100db mark, legal limit is 90db at 3k or 3.5k rpm......... but hey its ur preferance lol best bet u can go for is get a big single tip or twin tip with a good brand muffler, 2.5" mandrel bent system (mild steel 1/2s the price n sounds better), dun worry bout hi flo cat, and finish it off with a nice set of extractors its really up to u tho and what u wanna do with the car... like depends if ur gunna keep this car n make it a beast by pouring money into it or sell it a year down the track n upgrade Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/307665-question-about-exhaust-system/#findComment-5086620 Share on other sites
The Bogan
You can pick up some sweet almost new rear mufflers to suit your application form exhaust shops/wreckers, lots of people upgrade their exhaust and leave the old stuff behind, A rear of any newish Nissan turbo should suit (R34) or a 6 cyl Ford or Holden. mad082
how long until you get off your p's? the reason i ask is that if it isn't that long (like a year or so), i wouldn't bother doing extractors. just get the catback. save the money for the turbo upgrade as you will only have to ditch the extractors when you put the turbo manifold on Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/307665-question-about-exhaust-system/#findComment-5087086 Share on other sites
GTScotT
most expensive JDM exhausts come with a cannon. majority of cars on this forum have a cannon. owners choice. 1150 sounds fine, extractors are the most expensive part. try get the exhaust shop to supply all components as if you supply your own cannon they are likely to swallow the costs where as they would probably supply a decent muffler included in the price if you didnt ask for a hotdog in the middle too, should make it sound nice. So you don't have extractors when you have a turbo? Wow thanks you saved me a heap the exhaust manifolds are completely different. i found a few pics to show you what i mean. the NA system i am showing is off a rb30, but it is pretty much the same as a rb25 or rb20. rb25 turbo manifold. you can see where the turbo bolts to rb30 stock manifold and extractors side by side. note where the front pipe meets the headers on the stock setup. totally different location to the turbo manifold, and on the extractors are 1 piece GTScoT, do you think that lancers with cannons, or hyundais with cannons, or even commodores with cannons are ok? most people on this forum will say no that is stupid, but will then put them on their car. somehow the rules don't apply to them. it is either all or none. i personally don't mind the cannons on any car (have owned 3 cars with cannons, one 1 i put on, but that was because it was part of the exhaust system i bought and couldn't be bothered spending the money on a different muffler) provided the right type is used (and if need be with other mufflers/resonators) to get a decent sound, however if i was building an exhaust system from scratch i wouldn't put a cannon on, not even on a skyline. Birds
Cannons try to make a small engine sound bigger / more powerful than it actually is by using loud annoying drone sounds that fall far short of the bigger engines they're trying to imitate. If cannons were cool and actually made a good sound, V8 vehicles would have them - fortunately they don't. I'm paying good money to get rid of the cannon that came with my car. In fact, I'm scrapping the whole system because like alot of vehicles with cannons the whole exhaust is pretty poorly thought out / designed. The best exhaust system I've ever heard on a small displacement engine was a Genie extractors and single muffler system on a 1.8 litre TA22 Celica...it ran 2.25" all the way through, with a 3 inch tip on the end. This thing actually DID sound like a small V8 (it helped to have .45 Weber side drafts and a nice firing order) as opposed to any piece of shit, lack-of-back-pressure cannon. Some people like the sound a cannon makes though. And that's okay, because some men like other men.
