Damo's R32 Gts-r, On Going Project Fun Car. History And Use Full Info

Recommended Posts

Hey damo, just stuff the sound shield box full of fire blankets... help cut the ressonance down.

Dude--- sucks about the turbo!

You know, I recon a nice set of red top rb20 rocker covers in crincle red would look good toooo....

just like fire blankets from bunnings or alike?

id profer to sell the cam covers at the moment but if it sitts in my shed long enough it ends up pn the car.

love it!

thanks. im happy with the way it looks at the moment. i have a picture taken from the same place same angle from my first basky day and the car has never matched it looks wise untill now i dont think.

  • 1 month later...

nearly 2 months since i updated this.

i went off and done targa with Sav Man and that resulted in my daily 4 door being a donor car so post targa we had to fix that up. the result was just a tidy up with about 20 cans of degreser used in the engine bay and a few new parts thrown at it. like split dump pipe, new ac compressor and condenser fan, strut brace, clutch pressure plate. really just shit we had laying around. i also scored some Panasport rims, gts (or N1) headlights, type M areo front bar and shaved boot lid. ill throw some pics up of it once its looking clean and tidy again.

i had some time to ponder turbo options but to see what elce needs to be fixed on it ive borrowed a mates gt3071r. ive had a few goes at fitting it as it wasnt a straight swap as the core of the turbo is stuck in a different position to mine which has ment a new oil drain had to be made and slight modifications to the manifold. id just about given up on the car over the past few weeks but i had a look through here tonight and got my thinking cap on and came to some practical solutions.

this car will be going into storage untill late 2011 after this event so i wanted to get one under its belt before parking it. i am doing a club day at my local track where i hope to brake my PB. the car is getting dynoed on thursday so between now and the 4th june i should get up some more shots of some revised mods.

a future outlook would be one of the new garrett GTX series turbos and maybe some half bread fuel. not e85 just yet.

I heard you sold the car to fund a float at this years gay and lesbian mardi gras!

Cats out now. i was going to suprise you.

Car runs again. good old RB first hit of the key and fired up.

its now 3071R equiped. s bit quieter in the cab and blitz SBC instaled.

Results = tomorow.

car now sits on 295 18s dunlop D03Gs rear.

thanks to bens help we massaged the guards out just enough to fit them. they will have to be repainted thoe as the paint didnt want to stretch as far as the metal.

will try and get pics up as soon as i fix my fing camera/phone.

Yeah mate, like the ones you buy for your kitchen... I've used them in mufflers as packing... good stuff.

-You know you want to spray those rb20 covers crinckle red and bang em on!

I'm loving the gtr intake, I think that'll be my next step once I've finished with the Trust T67 set up.

What's the next event?

Cheers

Justin

Wow, new turbo sh1ts on the old one!

I had a quick look but gave up searching, what turbo was the old one?

it was an older series turbo around the 3082r size. massive front wheel. i didnt get to realy drive it to see what it was like but it was laggy

the new one is a 3071r off a mates rb20. mine made less power with similar boost because it wont accept any ignition timing. e85 will fix this

ill be after somthing in the middle i think.

justin- the cover have gone sorry mate. im about to have a big clean up of parts i no longer need.

i got a fire blancket thanks. made a huge difference to noise.

there is a club day im entering this weekend.

yell out if you start the 25-GTR intske. ill tell you all you need to know.

Where's the club day?

I'll see how the greddy/vh45 tb combo goes with the T67. I have a couple of spare GTR intake sides in stock, as I have a greddy mani, oversize tb's and milled out injector mani for the GTR... 6 x 48mm throttle bodies- oooo yeah! ha ha ah.

Do you have a valley cover to suit the red cover rb20 rocker covers???

Cheers

    • Yeah, plenty of air flow, there is a dedicated path that feeds the air in to the OEM intake tube behind the bumper As for a "tangible effect", maybe, but getting the pod/intake air out of the hot engine bay is worth it psychologically to me, even if it gives no performance difference, so the tangible effect in my Lizard brain saysss yessss  In the end, to me a tangible effect isn't always about performance, sometimes it a sound or a look, or even a...... feeling  Ooga-Chaka Ooga-Ooga Ooga-Chaka Ooga-Ooga Ooga-Chaka Ooga-Ooga Ooga-Chaka Ooga-Ooga
    • yeah first and reverse is where you will find clutch release issues (whether hydraulic or mechanical) because the difference in revs required is the highest there; particularly changing down from 2nd to 1st when still moving. To be clearer though, it is possible that the clutch release bearing is the wrong height. This is less likely than a hydraulic issue but it is not unheard of when you are mixing and matching
    • Quite right, if you make it to that pension you deserve every cent
    • Hi all, Restoring r33 series 1 rb25det. All the heater hoses were on their way out, have replaced them and put it all back together. After testing I noticed a small leak from behind the head on the actual metal water line to the turbo when cars warm. I tried running a longer hose over it but it kept leaking...   I am about to take the (stock) manifold off again😔 to change the water line does any one have any lines they recommend? I was looking at Aeroflow Turbo Oil & Water Line Set but not sure what everyone else recommends. Car is completely stock but want to upgrade turbo eventually. it looks like ill have to disconnect a lot just to replace these lines so if there's anything else recommended to do please let me know. Thank you in advance!
    • From memory, on the R33 GTSt at least, while everyone says "It's not adjustable", I found when I changed clutches in mine, it just needed a small adjustment on the rod length. But be very wary here, as you could end up trying to push the pushrod in the master too far, or blowing out the slave.   Most likely though, if the master/slave isn't bypassing internally or leaking out, then the throw out is the wrong height compared to the fingers on the clutch, so when it moves to disengage the clutch, it isn't 100% disengaged. You can check part of this out too by jacking the car up, having the engine running, put your foot on the clutch and try to engage 1st gear. If it goes in pretty easy (Compared to the ground) and/or the wheels start turning a fair bit and it takes a bit too much brake pedal to bring them back to a stop, this is likely the issue.  I'm not sure if you can adjust the height of the forks etc in these though, it's been that long since I've touched any RB gearbox.
