hey guys i own a 1990 cefiro with engine mods as follows:

rebuilt rb20det

worked head front facing plenum

fairlady t/b (unsure what model)

high mount mitsubishi td06-19c (part no on front 4917952000)

z32 AFM

huge coola of unknown brand

3inch exhaust

high flow bosch pump

rising rate reg (some chinese shit brand)

mines ECU

ATM im not driving the car atleast untill iam confident its happy,

besides that its ready to drift i have upgraded suspension, brakes, bushes , 2 way diff, 25 gearbox ,clutch

i just need to fix these few problems

while iam good with suspension , brakes and bolt on mods i dont know sfa about engine internals except noise is bad hahaha

ok so heres the questions;

1) iam getting a rattling from the engine over about 3000rpm she drives fine very smooth, i thought it was coola piping on the engine bay but nothings loose or moving

what signs would point to knocking detonation or engine damage? (last thing i need with a rebuilt motor)

2) how much power could this turbo produce ? (when all is proven safe)

3)i have very heavy steering i have checked for leaks and topped up fluid and the belts tight im wondering could it be the pump how would i tell?

4) whats the mines computer like is it worth keeping or should i get a stocky with a remap?

5) it looks stock and sits quiet high .... but will front coileys stop me from getting RWC in QLD (i put stockys in the back already for RWC but i dont have stock front struts)

6) does anyone know a reliable TRUSTWORTHY mechanic on the gold coast

thanks for reading

cheers ..Ben

cud be the pod rattling on the body once higher rpm's make it vibrate more. put some cloth tape around whatever it is on with the body and see if you can hear it as i had the same thing

also high intake temps result in detonation so keep an eye on that. u can use the stock ecu water temp sensor off an rb20 and thread a hole in your cooler piping if you wanna keep track and just hook it up to a water temp guage.

far as i remember there was a thread on here about rb26 intake temps as they have a stock intake sensor and average was 45c. no idea on dangerous but at a guess 55+

just make sure its the ecu sensor not the one that goes to the cluster.

the rb30 may run an ecu sensor aswell so give that a try if you can see it with the same colour/mark wire on the sensor as well as on the loom next to the plug on the ecu.

. the ecu water sensor has 2 wires coming from it, one is a ground or positive and the other is the sensor

a aftermarket gauge has 3 terminals, power + , - (ground), sensor. T off at your cig lighter for +/- powers buy just scratching the plastic with scissors or a knife that isn't that sharp and wrap your connection around there and tape it up

Edited by Dan_J

ok so from the sensor run one wire to the cig lighter for ( + ) power one to the gauge (sensor) then run the ( - ) negative from the cig lighter to the gauge also ... is this correct prob sounds basic to everyone else but just wanna be clear before i start blowing fuses

    • The fancy pants red shock tower brace is finally incoming from MX5 Mania, getting it shipped from 'Merica has been a long and problematic process, and GWR, the 'Merican supplier will not ship directly to consumers outside of the US, Mania basically had to order a heap of them, the colour choice was silver, or red, and we all know anything red adds 5 killerwasps of dynotorques..... Whilst it does fit over a 2.5, and I've seen a few photos and videos of it being installed and fitting, google also says it might get real close to the FAB9 intake front runner, people in the US says it does fit with the FAB9 intake, except for one person who said it slightly touched.......so there is that.....LOL..... As it seems that I am the first in AU to have this combination of parts there's no local knowledge about fitment, so I'm just a willing guinea pig in this endeavour, I'll cross my fingers and toes and hope for the best In other news, I ordered stuff from China  on the same day I ordered the 23° silicone bend from Victoria, the stuff from China arrived a day ago, the 23° silicone bend is still travelling around Australia thanks to Australia Post, and "may" be here next week
    • Very good news...I contacted Racebox about it last night. My car is a 2016 so remains to be seen if it is compatible, requires a TCU swap, or is impossible.
    • What ECU are you running? This is probably the biggest question. If it's a PowerFC, I'd probably change the ECU and get something newer that will handle the injectors in a nicer way.
    • FYI: Racebox RE7R Custom Tunes Released!   https://goracebox.com/.../2017-infiniti-q50-q60-re7r-tcm...   FOR GEN 2 (21+) VEHICLES, PLEASE SEE NOTE AT BOTTOM See more   But whomever tuned your car is the tuner you should go back to, AMS, Sonictune or BT Tune....
