hey guys i need help ive got 2 x greddy td05h 18g turbos and they are both in need of a rebuild. im not very smart when it comes to greddy/mitsubishi turbos td series ive been quoted roughly 1500 to rebuild both but ive found these cartridges on ebay for alot cheaper are they any good or has anyone bought one?

$500 for the cart, then $200 for assembly/balancing/labour.

You MUST get it done by a professional, it's not something you can do in your backyard. So $1500 is about right once you add in the other costs... It's not just a case of a cartridge and you are done.

no i understand that im just wondering if those carts are any good?

Who knows!??!?! :laugh: The fact that its a performance application means i would want to be sure it has 360 thrust bearings etc unlike some of the cheaper std prod car 270deg stuff. I suppose there is only one way to find out....but its a risk. The billet turbo guys claims to be able to re do the Greddy turbos with water cooler, ball bearing centres. I have a spare TD06-20G that was ear marked to have this done.

the rebuild price you have been quoted seems a bit on the high side for 2 plain bearing turbos to me but not far off the mark. I would expect around 12-1300 if the wheels are ok. If you are in sydney try fred at turbologic (port kembla) as he has a lot of experience with the mitsu gear. Also precision at wetherill park is worth a go.

That 2-300 is worth paying as you have local warranty/support.

If you had a shagged comp or turbine it may be worth looking at the ebay turbo. It'll be equivalent to something like hypergear over here except using mitsubishi catalogue bits. For some reason we pay a ridiculous premium on mitsu turbo bits over here.

be careful with these i have had a few customers through (done by large well known performance turbo reman guys) and the cars were never able to match the old numbers.... We had them pulled down and it seem they also used garret wheels (whole garret core) and machined the housing to suit. In these instances the turbos where inferior...... just made a cool spool down noise on shut down :P

I wouldn't trust an unknown company... so i would be getting it rebalanced/checked over here anyway TBH.

Too many people buy stuff over ebay and it comes poorly balanced and so on.

And then x2 that... just to risky for me personally.

it comes with MHI bearing housing, compressor wheel, turbine wheel and KAMAK performance thrust bearing kit the strongest kit in the world.

we assembled this CHRA on our Schenck 110 VSR machine.

It is stronger than Greddy one

Being a Mitsu turbo, it should be cheap to get them done, considering you can pick up new CHRA's for under $1000. $500 to fit housings sounds like bollocks to me....

I've had dealings with MTQ and them seem pretty well priced for what I've had.

Also keep in mind that most shops won't give an accurate qoute without eyeballing the turbo.

ive used thier gear but cant say much at this stage, i havent got enough time on the gear to know if its gonna last but i I am testing 2 of their turbos for reliability as we speak :) and ive used their CHRA's without any dramas so far.

    • Ok I get you. But isn’t the butterfly intake a headache with the +T?  see this is my plan so far but please advise me into the right direction.  Nistune Ecu, 1000cc Bosch injectors, TD05 or TD06 Kinugawa turbo using stock rb25det exhuast manifold, walbro fuel pump unsure of model I think it’s 450/460, spitfire coils and sparks to suit and a R35 MAF sensor and boost sensor.    I was thinking maybe do a cheap eBay plenum $400-500 or try find a stock det neo intake. I think I’d port match it so it’s getting the full capacity but open to advice please.  Thanks 
    • The issue now is the 'fuel cut' while driving, and when it happend, it does not stall. This, I did not test the fuel pressure while driving as I cannot with a fuel pressure gauge. I do have Nistune logs, yes. I have also replaced the MAF Sensor.   Also related to the FPG Fuel Hanger – I just realized that I need a Deutsch Crimp Tool to crimp some cables for the FPG Fuel Hanger. Need to purchase additional cables as the kit only included 2, which are for the float. FPG has not responded to my emails so far since purchasing. I thought about taking it to someone and having it done professionally, but I am reluctant since everyone I took it to messed up in some way.

    • The German place in Cabramatta was rock solid, fresh pretzel cooked to order back then. Then it went all quiet, after all the poker machines were removed, then I believe it closed for good. I did drive past the other week and noticed outdoor lighting a big screen, but no idea what is there now.  
    • Yeah I suspect even if you hold airmass per cycle/cylinder constant if you get too far away from stock you're still going to have problems running the factory tune within the bounds of the factory load scale. Cams, different displacement/rod ratio, etc. I'm just lucky that the GTIII-SS with wastegate boost + CA compliance cats is pretty much equivalent to stock turbos. When I have actual space I can finally get it tuned and modify the fuel system for flex fuel to 100% handle any detonation concerns when cranking the boost to whatever those dinky turbos can put out.
