Well I spoke to Jetwrek and he mentioned it may be the Air filter... I changed up to a K&N filter and I can't get it to fart anymore..... I'm totally confused. :)

May have something to do with getting enough air to the turbo.

hmm... that description actually reminds me of the sound my car used to make (same circumstances).

Got rid of it by allowing more air to the turbo (Powerduct and intake piping).

I was told it was the same sound that GTR's make when they suck their rubber pipe shut, thus not enough air getting to he turbo.

Haven't had the sound since. :down:

Dunno about all this talk of the factory BOV problems, both Scotty and Craig are still using their stock BOV's and each have over 200awkw.

I am still using my stock BOV without issue and I have just turned 180,000kms on my car that regularly boosts to 1.2 bar.

Also, maybe look at putting a small grub screw in the little hole of your BOV. :D

Yup, that is the exact same sound I had.

I still had it happen when I put the grub screw in the stock BOV, it was when we put the intake pipe on that the sound disappeared completely.

Check that your air filter is clean and that it is a high flowing item? Open the front of the airbox?

These should help and are a cheap solution... but like I said, my car stopped making that noise ONLY after opening up the intake pipe (I still have the stock intercooler... for now).

I was AMAZED at the difference fitting a K&N filter, there is obviously a huuuge difference in airflow over a std paper filter. I would compare the improvement in performance to the equivalent of the addition of the 3 inch dump to my otherwise standard exhaust. It was a night and day improvement.

If the noise you are hearing is the compressor trying to create a vacuum you may have been damaging it or the bearings. I didn't hear any strange noises from my intake before I made the 80mm one but it was definitely maxed out at 200kw. Nissan obviously used this as one of the many ways it limits the torque for drivetrain protection.

Just to add some more confusion to the topic...

I already had a powerduct and Blitz high flow panel filter and was getting the farting noise.

Installed the new BOV (factory Nissan one) today and no more farting! Driven it for about an hour and all seems fine!

See what happens over the next few days but it seems it was the BOV in my case

Can you guys puhleeeeeez stop pointing towards Turbosmart stuff as a suitable solution?

I've noticed you obviously have something up with TS, wat's the prob bob?

Nah he would have said that if that's what he thought, he hinted that it is NOT a suitable solution.

Just wondering why he believes that is the case.

I am just totally confused to why blocking off my BOV would stop the farting and would also stop with a better filter... Maybe it comes down to my lack of knowledge but it just seems odd. All I know is no farting = good.

Its easy, the stock bov has a 5 mm hole that bypasses all the time. This would require more air to circulate through the already restrictive intake.

Turbosmart bov is a simple air valve, well overpriced if you ask me. Our stock one is more than up to the task, if you want the noises block the bypass port with a grubscrew or for the hektic, blank the bugger off with some alloy sheet under the valve. Anything venting externally will send the ecu mental.

Turbosmart ball valve controllers are crap, Blitz spec R FTW. :whistling:

just picked up my m35 last monday.. i get this noise too.. heard it while driving into sydney the other night.. freaked me out thought something bad is wrong and i had bought a lemon. So hit the pedal again to listen for it once more nothing?? that was full boost through a couple of gears. but i get it when i feather the throttle as you guys have previously mentioned.

i will look into the remedies suggested.

i have a kakimoto cat back exhaust no aftermarket filter panel

    • I know I have to get a wheel alignment but until then I just need to bring the rear tyres in a bit they're wearing to the belt on the inside and brand new on the outside edge. I did shorten the arms a bit but got it wrong now after a few klms the Slip and VDC lights come on. I'd just like to get it to a point where I can drive for another week or two before getting an alignment. I've had to pay a lot of other stuff recently so doing it myself is my only option 
    • You just need a wheel alignment after, so just set them to the same as current and drive to the shop. As there are 2 upper links it may also be worth adding adjustable upper front links at the same time; these reduce bump steer when you move the camber (note that setting those correctly takes a lot longer as you have to recheck the camber at each length of the toe arm, through a range of movement, so you could just ignore that unless the handling becomes unpredictable)
    • I got adjustable after market rear camber arm to replace the stock one's because got sick of having to buy new rear tyres every few months. Can anyone please let me know what the best adjustment length would be. I don't have the old ones anymore to get measurements. I'm guessing the stock measurement minus a few mm would do it. Please any help on replacing them would be fantastic I've watched the YouTube clips but no-one talks about how long to set the camber arm to.
    • Heh. I copied the link to the video direct, instead of the thread I mentioned. But the video is the main value content anyway. Otherwise, yes, in Europe, surely you'd be expected to buy local. Being whichever flavour of Michelin, Continental or Pirelli suits your usage model.
    • Continental have consistently beaten the absolute shit out of every other performance tyre in Wet/Damp/Cold conditions and give up a little bit of time (half a second at most) in the dry. Almost like it's engineered for German conditions or something. I'd def give those a try.
