I run KU36 on the front and KU31 on the rear, even though the KU31 is the cheaper out of the two ($160 per side fitted and balanced 255/40/17) they grip better than my previous Toyo Proxes 4 which costed 1.5x the price

I've got Ku36's on the front in 255 wide and they are an awesome tyre don't get me wrong, as with my strut braces and HKS coilovers...I throw mine around corners all day everyday(almost daily but not in wet lol) and I can't fault them. Even in the wet they have been fine but......Mine were perfect noise wise at first(Only done about 5000k's if that) and now I have road noise like a 4x4 from about 40k's which is starting to sh%t me.

I had a four wheel alignment and balance when I had them fitted and everything is meant to be spot on...

Has anyone had any problems with Ku36's making tyre noise. I was going to get KU36 275's on the back but don't know now.

Hi Mate

Got 31's on my R8 with 325kws.

Next to the Bridgestone that were $890 per corner these are a great tyre. I have had them now for about 30,000kms and they have about 10,000kms left.

Will certainly use them next time. Plus, at $250 per corner, with performance that I have found as good as the potenza, why not.

Hi guys this week ill be purchasing some new 265x35x18 for my R34 GT-T with approx 200kw.

My budget is max $250 a tyre and for that price range from the reviews ive read its either Kumho KU31 and KU36.

I don't do any track days, but i love the feel when you hit a gear and your not facing houses :P

Both tyres are roughly the same price. Just wondering what you guys would choose if you were in my situation & please if you know of another tyre within my price range please feel free to recommend one.

Much apperciated. Terry. :P

As already stated the KU36 is a great high performance dry weather/track day tyre but they are crap when they are cold and when it is wet (i.e. they are a crap road tyre).

The KU31 is more of an all weather high performance street tyre with less tyre noise, better wet grip and wear (i.e. they are a crap track tyre).

I use the Ku36 for the track and the Ku31 for the street they are both great bang-for-buck for their respective purposes

I am going to be needing new tyres shortly and have been searching through a few of the threads. I have seen some people say that the KU36's are not bad in the wet and others which say they are bad. I was assuming that they would be not too good in the wet for the road. Just to clarify that more I am saying bad in the wet, I think they might be ok for a damp road but not if there is standing water and heavy rain. They just don't look like the sort of design that would allow for that. I have been weighing up the KU31 & KU36 choice also. I was even wondering if a combo of them might be ok but realise it would be best to stick the same sort all round for a specific task, ie KU31 for street & KU36 for track etc as mentioned above.

My car only gets driven on the street so KU31 tyres look like they would be the better choice for me. Saying that though my next question would be what other tyres are similar in a performance & price bracket to the KU31's from other manufacturers? I can always move this to a new thread if required as I don't want to cover too many subjects at once but I find it is a lot easier to search/find things if similar topics are all in the one thread.

I don't have prices but are any other choices to choose from close to KU31's? Eg. Falkens (no idea on prices?)

The KU31 is definitely a better road tyre than the KU36 no argument.

I didn't mention it but the KU36 are also very noisy i.e. so much whining that it sounds like the diff is going to blow on the highway!!!

But neither are as good as say the Falken FK452 which is in a different league altogether to the Kumho's.

If your wallet can stretch that far the FK452 is probably the best bang-for-buck "premium" performance tyre out there.

I also run FK452's and can highly recommend them.

I see you are in Melbourne so I suggest you give Tyre Power Hawthorn a call, I just purchased some FK452's off them at an unbelievable price! These guys know their shit and will beat any price... I wish I'd found them before now

Im using Ku36 all round for my 34GTT for 1 month already. Been very happy after the run-in of the tyre which heats us faster nowadays and gives plenty of dry grip. Although when it starts to rain the tyre will just turn hard and has less grip if it's still cold. Needs some warming up first before the grip returns (slightly better). So far using 235/40/18 (can be mistaken as 245/40/18 that it replaces) all round due to the limited sizes available in my country.

Some of my mates is using KU31 is prefer the all rounder grip, but after my previous experience with RT615, I just wanted a better semi's for now with the right price. Btw i always drive very slow in the wet doesn't matter it's street or semi tyres...just safer that way.

Are there any other brand semi's around the same price or a little more expencive than the KU36 but less noise or more performence?

I have heard good things about the falken but the RT615 is now out of production. The only other brand semi's i know are yokohama and bridgestone which are way out of my price range.

    • No, code 21 is very straightforward. It can only be the things described in that diagnostic flow. In fact it has no way of knowing that the spark plug resistance is out of spec.
    • Hi, SteveL Thank you very much for your reply, you seem to be the only person on the net who has come up with a definitive answer for which I am grateful. The "Leak" was more by way of wet bubbles when the pedal was depressed hard by a buddy while trying to gey a decent pedal when bleeding the system having fitted the rebuilt BM50 back in the car, which now makes perfect sense. A bit of a shame having just rebuilt my BM50, I did not touch the proportioning valve side of things, the BM50 was leaking from the primary piston seal and fluid was running down the the Brake booster hence the need to rebuild, I had never noticed any fluid leaking from that hole previously it only started when I refitted it to the car. The brake lines in the photo are "Kunifer" which is a Copper/Nickel alloy brake pipe, but are only the ones I use to bench bleed Master cylinders, they are perfectly legal to use on vehicles here in the UK, however the lines on the car are PVF coated steel. Thanks again for clearing this up for me, a purchase of a new BMC appears to be on the cards, I have been looking at various options in case my BM50 was not repairable and have looked at the HFM BM57 which I understand is manufactured in Australia.
    • Well the install is officially done. Filled with fluid and bled it today, but didn't get a chance to take it on a test drive. I'll throw some final pics of the lines and whatnot but you can definitely install a DMAX rack in an R33 with pretty minor mods. I think the only other thing I had to do that isn't documented here is grind a bit of the larger banjo fitting to get it to clear since the banjos are grouped much tighter on the DMAX rack. Also the dust boots from a R33 do not fit either fyi, so if you end up doing this install for whatever reason you'll need to grab those too. One caveat with buying the S15 dust boots however is that the clamps are too small to fit on the R33 inner tie rod since they're much thicker so keep the old clamps around. The boots also twist a bit when adjusting toe but it's not a big deal. No issues or leaks so far, steering feels good and it looks like there's a bit more lock now than I had before. Getting an alignment on Saturday so I'll see how it feels then but seems like it'll be good to go
