I have to add 2 things that I think should be rules on cruises, especially GOR

1. If you cannot stay in your lane you are DRIVING TOO FAST. For half of GOR I was behind a car that shall remain anonymous. He would shift to the middle of the road, straddling the double white lines, then turn into corners. This may have been crap driving, or a craply tuned suspension/ crap tyres, but in any case, the moral of the story is don't push yourself or your poor car past your limits. Don't worry about being left behind - there are enough roadblocks to always catch up. Don't worry about blocking others - if you are too slow, just sit in a turn-off and let the faster ones pass.

This annoyance turned to fear when another car was doing the same on the way back from Stage 1. I had turned a blind corner and there was a skyline flying at me going the other way, straddling double white lines. If it weren't for our fast reaction times, that would've been two down. STAY IN YOUR LANE.

2. When overtaking another skyline, probably best to warn them with a high-beam flash. I had a near miss when I went to overtake a slow non-SAU car in front of me, when the skyline behind me had just pulled out and overtook us both. He was sitting in my blind spot and it would've been nasty had not the godawful screech of his massive single turbo alerted me to his intentions. This works both ways - check your rear view mirror and right blind spot before you overtake a slow car, as you could be on the verge of squashing another member trying to do the same.

Thanks. Sorry to be the nanny, but in my line of work every day I see the lives of young guys destroyed by a second of irresponsible driving eg., being unable to talk, walk or eat for the rest of their miserable existence. Please be careful. It's not worth it.

i dont believe in your last point because i dont flash other drivers when i pull out to overtake i indicate, its up to the other person to check and also do a headcheck to make sure no-one is in your blind spot before pulling out.

A BIG THANKS to all who organised the weekend!

Had a great time meeting new people and Nadia had a heap of fun on saturday night :)

Hope all works out Grant, im the guy who bought the gear knob (GTRZLA).

Looks like DECA is a must from the stories told :(

See you all at the next one!!!

Hey Peter,

Shit, I didn't recoginse you, sorry about it!

Hopefully I'll be able to send the GTR to Status tomorrow - I have John (ssxricho) offering me to tow it with 4x4 and trailer and I'm waiting to recieve a SMS from Jack if he is able to tow it before 4pm tomorrow.

Cheers

Although dangerous on the road, everyone knows you go into the corner much faster if you "Straddle" the white lines before entering...So it's not crap driving or shitty suspension just someone attempting to use race lines on the road..lol

Haha will remain unnamed.

Yeah, of course it will make any car go faster if you take the racing line into oncoming traffic around a corner. The point is if you have to do that you are driving too fast and endangering everyone. If you want to go faster around corners without crashing into oncoming traffic you should learn to drive better or upgrade your tyres/suspension so you can go fast in your own lane. That was my point.

I agree that if everyone did this there would be no need, but this doesn't happen all the time.

Totally agree!!

did just realise this thread was here...:(

    • Thanks for doing that Duncan! Makes you a good person in my books. We don't get kangaroos or wombats here. But we have bats and it's similar. AFAIK it's often the mums with a baby attached that get hit because they drop lower when starting from a tree. If you hit an animal, check on it. https://www.ifaw.org/au/resources/wildlife-rescue-app An app to get the closest wildlife rescue contact.
    • My dream is also to have a proper hoist, but I don't think it will ever happen. My quickjack is probably as close as I'll ever get, it really is very good though.
    • Yeah we keep on in the dailies, it is pretty poor how many animals get hit and the driver leaves without checking....have saved a couple of little ones over the years. Bit of a gruesome job though, pouches generally need to be cut open because they are so tight and often the joey doesn't realise mum is gone so they are still locked onto the teat. I checked the modules in front of the DS wheel where an oil cooler should go.... There is the radar unit - that can go for race use) One of the 2 HX water pumps, the silver cylinder. That needs to be kept but might be able to be relocated But the bad news, the big computer mounted vertically in front of the wheel (blocking any potential air exit) is the electric steering computer. That is required until/unless i do a hydraulic steering conversion, and in CAD based modern car design it is not like I can just pop a big unit like that somewhere else (plus the loom would be too short anywhere else too). So, the passenger side is OK to clear out (just use a smaller washer reservoir, potentially elsewhere), but the DS no beuno
    • Well, all the best with the new camry It was interesting to hear about the UK process, it is generally a lot more streamlined here with a shipping agent looking after all the import side (noting the exact final price can still be a surprise.....) and I've used a few different brokers on the japan (or US) side, and never had any trouble with any of them....luck of the draw I guess. You mentioned you didn't get the auction sheet (understandable since you bought it from a dealer, not auction), but I always try and get hold of that because they are pretty thorough. I've imported 2x R grade vehicles over the years and both were fine, repairs in Japan are pretty thorough compared to here in Oz.
    • BTW I measured the jack I have, it is 70mm at the saddle but you only have about 700 until it returns to 150mm high at the cylinder so it is good but no magic bullet.
