So the gf is looking for a new car, and as part of my brainwashing process I've almost convinced her to buy a V35 sedan instead of a Lexus IS as she planned to get.

Did a quick search on here and you guys don't really seem to cover the sedans as much as the coupes.

So my questions to you guys are...

  • Are there any aftermarket tail lights or boot lids available for the sedan?
  • The S1 sedan we're gonna check out has a boot release lever on the back, wheras the S2 doesn't seem to. The S2 has an internal boot release, but I couldn't find one in the S1, does it have one?
  • Does the Premuim Bose stereo have a bluetooth module? Does it pair up with iPods/iPhones? Does the TV have english prompts, can I swap the guts of a G35 or 350Z into it?
  • Do the sedans come with a factory option sports front bumper? On the G35 forums they keep referring to a Nismo front bumper... que?
  • Can I use 350Z suspension in the V35 sedan?
  • Is there much aftermarket support for the 300GT's? Is there much difference other than capacity and power between the 350GT's and the 300GT's?

Thanks muchly.

no idea but there's aftermarket spoilers etc.

no idea about internal one but S2 has a little button under left taillight for external boot release - IMHO S2 flapless boot and taillight looks better than S1

Does the Premuim Bose stereo have a bluetooth module? Does it pair up with iPods/iPhones? Does the TV have english prompts, can I swap the guts of a G35 or 350Z into it?
no, need aftermarket BT kit & ipod kit. Some V35 sedan comes equipped with factory phone option but not sure if connectivity works with all phones. USDM G35 Bose will make FM frequency but AM frequency will be stuffed. Cheaper to keep head unit JDM and add fm band expander. interface in jap, but we have a network of xanavi english software language installer. Andy65b is the main distributor in NSW, I'm for Victoria, Chris Rogers for QLD, etc... You might be able to swap the whole guts of G35 into it but you'll loose TV function, as in US they do not have TV function. 350Z is different, the brain more similar to S2 but the screen output wiring might be different. The JDM brain has JDM TV Functionality, the Jap TV Tuner has Aux In connector so the possibility is 'endless' as you can add more stuff through the aux-in.... e.g. Aus TV Tuner...

Do the sedans come with a factory option sports front bumper? On the G35 forums they keep referring to a Nismo front bumper... que?
Nelson aka siu_loong_bao has nismo front bar

Can I use 350Z suspension in the V35 sedan?
yes lowers the car by 1-1.5in

Is there much aftermarket support for the 300GT's? Is there much difference other than capacity and power between the 350GT's and the 300GT's?
probably not here but u do have access to yahoo jp? power is I t ink around 30-50hp less than 350gt's 280hp. still not a bad, cheaper alternative

Thanks muchly.

oh and S1 comes with 6sp manual, rare, or 5sp auto or 8sp cvt on 350gt-8 only. try stay away from gt-8, tranny oil $1k+ excl labor - can't use maxima/murano cvt oil different transmission - if you break the cvt, closest repair in NZ, or looking at around $20k replacement. It's smooth but can be prone to problems if cvt oil not changed past 60k-80k km. 6sp m/5sp at are 350z items no worries for local support.

So my questions to you guys are...

* Are there any aftermarket tail lights or boot lids available for the sedan?

look in the USA or japan. I have never seen them in my travels.

* The S1 sedan we're gonna check out has a boot release lever on the back, wheras the S2 doesn't seem to. The S2 has an internal boot release, but I couldn't find one in the S1, does it have one?

S1 is referred to as doggy door. ther is not an internal switch. I have ADDED it to several cars and its not that bad to do.

* Does the Premuim Bose stereo have a bluetooth module? Does it pair up with iPods/iPhones? Does the TV have english prompts, can I swap the guts of a G35 or 350Z into it?

S1 - no. S2 hardwired phone - S3 BT. apart from S1 - none of it is in english. S1 is a forced english conversion IF the box can actually read a disc!!

in regard to a DEAD stereo - rip the lot out and start again its MUCH easier than waiting on a Cd mech for 6 months from japan and then having the main radio chassis have a heart attack after you bolt the thing on. if you wanted to toss the G35 NAVI unit and radio in - do so. you still have the same problems though you do get the english fixed and the FM radio fixed.

* Do the sedans come with a factory option sports front bumper? On the G35 forums they keep referring to a Nismo front bumper... que?

NFI..

* Can I use 350Z suspension in the V35 sedan?

seem to think you can - ask N15mo

* Is there much aftermarket support for the 300GT's? Is there much difference other than capacity and power between the 350GT's and the 300GT's?

300 will still scoot quite well. do not do what someone did here in brissy though and buy a cheap one. (100 FOB landed!) that car had all sorts of faults and at teh end of it I told the ower to get it looked at by someone else after I spent a week on it.

as for hot up bits - why - just drive the thing.

The 2004 S1 300GT that I had has no doggy door. And it has both a internal and a remote (button on the key) for boot release.

The ONLY relase button on my current 'doggy door' styled boot is at the underside of the top of the doggy door itself.

I wonder if the doggy door boots comes also with remote release?

Edited by nissan rules

Went to check out the cars at the compliancer today. Saw an S1, an S1.5 and an S2 (well kinda)... all sedans. First one had the doggy door, second one had the clean bootlid, but no button release, the third one had a clean bootlid and a hole in the tail light. Quite odd. We'll probably be getting an S1, and then I'll try and find an S2 bootlid and tail lights to swap over. Will give me a chance to clear the tail lights and put in an luxeon LED array while I'm at it.

I was told some guys on SAU already had the firmware to flash to english, so Rianto, will be in touch with you to grab a copy.

the russian developer is very adamant to protect their work against piracy so software will be installed in person, so if you're in Melbourne, let me know, otherwise if you're in QLD then Chris Roger is the guy...

hm, re swapping boot lid and tail light, if the price difference is not much why don't you go with S1.5 and S2 as they're newer cars?

Oh and software for 2005 update version of V35 will available from approximately July onwards. at this moment we can only do up to the 2004 model (the one before interior face lift)

S1.5 is a 250GT, S2 is a manual, and she wants a tiptronic. If she could afford to wait 3 months I'd import her a 350GT in the colour of her choice and trim of her choice, but she wants one right away, so gonna go with a mate who sells em locally.

is this the xanavi.ru firmware? I'm guessing you guys charge something for this too?

so what's involved in this update? is it a CD/DVD you guys put into the navigation drive? does it flash the firmware or do I need to leave the DVD in the drive?

it's a firmware update, once done you don't have to keep the cd in there. the original dvd rom unit must be intact, there has been cases where the dvd rom in the upper glovebox had been butchered to make way for aftermarket unit, these cars, as Chris said, can't be updated/flashed anymore.

Cool, thanks for the info. For now we both read japanese so I think we can get by. I'll let you know after we pick up the car if we absolutely need the english conversion.

Has anyone contacted Zenrin to see if they can provide Australian maps? They provide maps for EU, US and JP for all the Nissan navigation systems. Who's the provider for AUDM Nissans?

Tailights not that I am aware of. Aftermarket bootlids, check the US G35 forums.
  • The S1 sedan we're gonna check out has a boot release lever on the back, wheras the S2 doesn't seem to. The S2 has an internal boot release, but I couldn't find one in the S1, does it have one?
The above is correct. S2 has the intelligent key and hence the button on the rear below the tail lights. If your key is in the pocket, just press the button and it opens. S2 also has boot release in cabin.
  • Does the Premuim Bose stereo have a bluetooth module? Does it pair up with iPods/iPhones? Does the TV have english prompts, can I swap the guts of a G35 or 350Z into it?
You will need to find one which has the bluetooth sign on the DVD rom player for this to work. CR will know. It will definately need to be a very new S2 model
  • Do the sedans come with a factory option sports front bumper? On the G35 forums they keep referring to a Nismo front bumper... que?
Nismo bumper from S1 won't fit S2 unless modified. That said, I purchased the factory front lip to go on my S2 factory bumper and looks good.
  • Can I use 350Z suspension in the V35 sedan?
Yes, I had 350z suspension in my current S2 350gt and also previous 300GT. Both lowered approx 1.5" all around. Best bang for buck suspension mod ever.
  • Is there much aftermarket support for the 300GT's? Is there much difference other than capacity and power between the 350GT's and the 300GT's?
Have had both so will comment. 300GT is a comfy cruiser. 350GT will haul arse if required (torque).

Thanks muchly.

With the prices being as low as they are now, I wouldn't choose anything under a S2. Newer everything including updated interior and a few extras eg: i Key, better Bose unit which according to CR is less prone to the CD Error FO common in the S1.

S1 comes with 6sp manual

The S1 sedan we're gonna check out has a boot release lever on the back, wheras the S2 doesn't seem to. The S2 has an internal boot release

my 350 sedan is a 6spd manual, with a smooth boot and internal boot release button.

anyway of working out what it is ?? (1, 1.5 or 2???)

from what I can tell the rear release stopped in 2003. they put it inside after that.

dpends how you wanted to class the thing. if you worked or R series ideas then 1.5. not sure if thats the case though.

Hi Shan,

I have a S1 300GT. very clean tight car and they do have some get up and go.

I have the "cat flap" boot. I looked at changing this a while ago to an S2 boot lid but was told they are a bit different and cant be converted, id just check on that before buying an S1 sedan if you really wanted to change it.

I think the S2 boots look heaps better.

Yep, my mate has the factory Aero kit on his sedan. Looks very nice I have to say

If you want a ton of aftermarket support, stick with the 3.5.

On a side note (sorry for the mini-hijack Shan) does anyone know if the S2 sedan bonnet is higher over the plenum than the S1 item and can it be bolted on an S1 sedan?

been looking into getting the sportec design kit from TSM in japan:

They seem to have stopped making them though, so we'll see.

failing that I'll find a nismo kit out of a wrecker or something.

And combining it with a hikkata moulded bootlid from the US

RP_1814_5_6.jpg

Which means I'll have to wire up a solenoid to release the boot using a switch in the cabin.

In other news, just bought a Xanavi 2005 2006 update set.

according to the guys I spoke to in japan, CD-ROM B contains a firmware image, so gonna try decompiling it to see what I can meddle with. Hopefully should mean I can have my own custom boot screen and language. Also itching to plug my bus probe into the factory stereo to see if I can replicate the signals going to the info screen, like they've done with the RX-8. mock up an ipod adapter using an arudino and plug it into one of the data feeds, to show song name etc. or at least get it to work with the remote on the steering wheel using an aux mode on the stereo.

These new age bus electronics are fun to hack :) haven't been this excited since hijacking the bus on my golf.

something entirely trivial.

there is a part number for those in FAST. suggest having a dig.

as for the mazda idea- there is no direct linkage to the screen from the radio on these.

the system speaks J1852 between the units - I have the command structure somewhere.

    • Apologies for the long post, but needed somewhere to lay out the entire timeline of events and actions taken:   I've got an 89 GTR with a R34 RB in it. It's been running great all year, driven probably 500KM in the last month. It's not my daily driver, just a weekend fun car.    Build info: R34 RB26 - HKS 2.7 stroker kit, HKS adjustable cam gears, HKS turbo upgrades, Trust intercooler, R34 factory DENSO 440cc injectors, JUN chipped/tuned R32 ECU. All of this work was performed in Japan back in 2019.    Thursday 10/2/25 - It's a nice day and decided I'll drive it to work, I start it up in the garage and I notice it took a few extra cranks and sounded a bit funny. I figure maybe it was just because it was a pretty chilly morning. I pull it out into the driveway to warm up a bit before leaving. As I leave the driveway, it feels very off and sounds like a misfire. I pull it back in the garage to deal with after work and take the daily to work. I was able to diagnose it as a cylinder 5 misfire with the old spark plug test (unplugging each plug until a sound change with the engine running). I take off the whole ignition system, ignitor, plugs, spark. *Important note, it is still on the R32 ignition system with the separate ignitor system. I test each system with a multi-meter and nothing presents as a smoking gun. I put it all back together and it starts up no issue. I go ahead and order the PRP R35 ignition conversion kit. It should arrive today (10/13/25)   Friday 10/3/25 - Another nice day, car starts up great and drives great all day. Very pleased that everything seems to be OK   Sunday 10/5/25 - Decided I'll take it to play some golf, load up and drive to the course about 25 minutes away. Drives wonderful the whole way there, I pull in the parking lot and the engine completely comes to a stop. I do not recall if it sputtered at all, but just remember all of the sudden the engine was off. I roll it into a parking spot, try to crank it back on and nothing.  It'll crank and crank and not even try to start. End up getting it towed back to my house and push it up into the garage.    Items I have checked: Fuel in the tank Fuel Pump relay Fuel pump fuse  Spark Plugs & gap Coil packs Ignitor    I know the cylinders are getting fuel as the plugs smell like fuel after a start attempt. I tried spraying starter fluid into the manifold and cranking and not even a sputter.    I decided to do the live CAS test (removing the the CAS, ignition on and spinning the CAS stalk to see if the injectors pulse and spark is active). All of the injectors were pulsing and I have spark at the plug. The half-moon end of the CAS did seem very loose, I'm not sure how much play is supposed to be there, but it was more than I expected. There was no in/out play of the shaft, just the tip end that is pinned on had quite a bit of play.    CAS Play video   When I put the CAS back in, I stupidly did not re-time the engine. I know I need to do that tonight, however, I do not think it will start given it seemingly was not the issue. My plan is to do the PRP R35 coil kit and retime the engine at the same time.    I plan on ordering the Haltech Nexus Plug-in ECU once they are available again, but ideally would like to get this sorted before firing the parts cannon at it and potentially adding more variables.    Anything glaring that I am missing here, I'm a bit at a loss?
