Awesome macro shots, Sidd.

I've gotta ask, how close can you be to the subject to get a fully-filled frame and still be in focus, especially with a 180mm focal length? I've got a 100mm f/2.8 USM Macro, and sometimes feel as if I can't get enough detail while still making sure the frame's filled enough.

Thanks man,

I could get pretty close, but i cant remember exactly how close in cms sorry. I didnt have much time to experiment with the lens :bunny:

Im sure there are some specs online about it and the exact focusing distance.

There has been amazing photos done with the 100mm macro. Perhaps make a thread on canon digital forums and get some help? There are hundreds of pro macro photographers on there who help!!

Post up some images taken with your 100mm.. Keen to see. Also would be a great portrait lens :)

that's a great shot sam! I love it.

What lens are you using sid?

I used a canon 180mm macro. I only borrowed it for the day and only used for 1-2 hours max lol.. Was pouring outside the whole day :D

Yeah, maybe I need to find larger subjects so the frame is filled better, I dunno. I'm pretty sure the 100mm can be within roughly 30cm and still auto-focus, I'll have to experiment some more as well. I tried a few shots last night while I had some ideas and inspiration, so I'll have to process those (and the Superlap photos) soon.

Here's a shot I took a while back, but when I cropped it the resolution dropped too much, so I'm wondering if there's a way to crop AND keep some resolution.

I've set up a RedBubble account (using the same username as here) and you're on my watchlist, so you should be able to link to my posted images there too.

Oh, when you say you've borrowed lenses, do you get them off friends, or hire them? If you're hiring them, where are you getting them from?

rather a 1198 if i were to fork out mega bucks for a ducati... but i'm happy slumming it with my kwaka :)

do you use a polarising filter? just thought the reflections on the wet skid pan, if they were gone it could be a nice pic also

Here are some mates rides I shot...

Yeah mate, I use the polarising filter all the time because it protects my lenses. I've already lost one filter due to scratches (well, burns actually!) so definately keeping it on. Lol. Wanted to include the reflections where possible, cos I like them. Lol.

Nice bike pics btw! I wanna get my motorbike Ls. Dunno how much my parents will like it, though :D

I've got a UV on my lens at all times... n slip the polariser over the top of that when required... so 80% of the time. Tho I dont have any actually good lens's... one day... when the moons of jupiter all line up i'll be given permission to purchase some new gear :D

Reflections of the subject in water are pure win...

Never used a 100mm macro lens before, so cant comment sorry.

Well the pics i took of those leaves flowers etc were tiny. Maybe the 180mm makes it look much more life size at 1:1 ratio. The 100mm macro is 1:1 isnt it?

But the 180mm is much heavier it seems. Hard to hand hold it.

Oh awesome, will log onto redbubble soon and check it out  Great site and good idea. Wish i thought of it hahah.

    • Check the injectors flow evenly, and are actually flowing what you and the ECU think they should be flowing. If it's starting up on starter fluid, you have a fuel issue. Is it possible under cranking your fuel pump is turning off?   The harness you replaced, is that the whole engine harness? Do yourself a test, and drop the old harness on and plug it into the Z32 ECU. It's possible they've wired things different. From memory S1 to S2 is different in RB25 and you may have a wrong loom
    • I haven’t pulled the injectors to watch them spray yet but they are clicking from the cas and all of the spark plugs are wet with fuel. I’ve thought the cylinders were being flooded from the beginning and was hoping fuel pressure would fix it. Tonight I am going to pull the rail and watch the injectors spray. Don’t know how to test/diagnose if the plugs are firing in correct sequence but that should be a timing thing and as far as timing goes my car still has the half moon for the cas can only install it 1 way. And my mechanical timing is 100% correct I posted photos above. Confirmed with the balancer on and off.
    • I checked spark on all cylinders and they all visually have spark with the plug pulled and grounded, but plug 1 is the only one that fouled. This was a running swap that blew up and was rebuilt by a machine shop, put a new wiring specialties harness and did all gaskets, studs, and bolts while it was out.  compression is 135-150 across all cylinders. Aside from that from my understanding with the z32 ecu and maf the car should start regardless. The wiring for TPS and the dual 02 sensor/ dual knock sensor stuff shouldn’t actually stop the car from starting or even running well, (just slightly rich)  they just give fault codes. Car supposedly is supposed to start as long as you have z32 afm and ecu with the nistune base map and that’s info coming from a well known and trusted tuner who does a lot with SR/RB (Rsenthalpy). After more trouble shooting today where I’m at right now is that the cas is sending signal to the injectors they click while spinning the rotor, Fuel pressure is now set at 43psi, all cylinders have good compression and all of the plugs looked great (just wet with fuel) except for cylinder 1 which was very black (cylinder 1 has 150psi compression). all of the coils generate spark if pulled out and grounded out on the head. On the fuel pump car just pops into the exhaust. On starting fluid car will fire off. Hard to tell if all cylinders are firing off but definitley a couple. sounds like all of them but it’s only for 3-5 seconds hard to tell.
    • Final update!!! Got the front bar fitted and sprayed and all sorted now. My cutouts worked great and the indicators aren’t just falling off. 😂
