Hey All,

I recently getting into the import scene; I don't really know much about cars at all regarding the engine, driveline, suspension etc but would love to learn. I've currently got a very basic S13 SR20DE; I'm looking into getting a R32 4 door and make it into a nice streeter; nothing more but nothing less.

I read continuously on everyone's member's rides on this site; I love to see a project get build and what was once an average thing turns into a magnificent thing. Although I don't understand much what the people are doing it still interests me.

At the moment I'm making a modification list for my new car, this way I am prepared on what needs to be done and keeps me motivated to finish the project. I was wondering if someone could post any possible links or tell me where I can seek information regarding the 'ultimate street setup' for a 4 door skyline. I don't want to go overboard but I don't want to go under board either, I want it to handle and run extremely well. I know to do this, it's going to cost money and I know some people like to do it half assed and be hell tight on money, but not in this case. I see if I am going to be putting in the effort it should be done right and correctly, so I am prepared to spend whatever it takes to get the best of the best for my car.

So what would be the best and potential modification list regarding the best brands for the, so for this is my idea:

Engine:

- Turbosmart E-Boost 2Boost Controller

- K&N Pod Filter with 2 ½ inch Air Intake

- Greddy / Trust Type R Blow Off Valve

- Bosch 040 Fuel Pump

- Cusco Oil Catch Can

- Nismo Oil Filler Cap

Cooling:

- Greddy / Trust Air Diversion Plate

- R32 Airflow Metre

- R32 GT-R Front Mount Intercooler Kit

- R32 GT-R Radiator

- Nismo Low Thermostat)

- Nismo Radiator Cap

Driveline:

- Comrade C's Short Shifter Kit

- Nismo Rubber Gearbox Mount

- Exedy Heavy Duty Button Clutch Kit

- Exedy Hyper Clutch Flywheel

- Nismo Clutch Pivot Ball

- Nismo Clutch Pedal Box/Bracket

- Nismo Steel Braided Clutch Hose / Line

Suspension:

- Cusco Strut Brace Type ALC40 (Front)

- Cusco Strut Brace Type OS (Rear)

- SydneyKid R32 GST-T Suspension Kit (Superior Suspension)

Brakes:

- R33 GST-T Brake Conversion

I know most of you guys are going to say go re-search which I will,. I know I am a 'newbie' and I'd admit that, but I feel like I have to learn some how and without know mates know anything about imports and performances modification this is my resort to help me.

Anyway sorry for the long post and I hope I can get my head to understand everyone.

I'm open to all opinions and I may admit I may have gone overboard so feel free to scratch parts out which won't be really needed.

Thanks and I await your replies.

You wont need a z32 airflow meter if you are not upgrading turbo, injectors and getting a tune.

Cut out all the rice and spend the money on performance mods (injectors, turbo, tune) or suspension bushes (adjustable camber, adjustable castor)

What your list should look like:

HKS2530

GTR Injectors

Return flow intercooler

Z32 AFM

nistune ecu

Bosch 040 fuel pump

Bilstein/kingspring suspension (refer to link above)

adj castor bushes

adj camber bushes

Front and Rear Swaybars

perfect setup for the engine there imo ^^ , gtr intercooler is fine though . I personally have a dead set hate for king springs for personal reasons , but really you need to explain what you want to do with the car (i.e drift , drag , circuit or street .. or all of the above) before getting into suspension setup . if i were to go and buy new suspension for my self it may be totally different to what you need if you understand what i mean? , if you want detailed to the Nth on what i would do to one , and why , i will tell you , but it might not be what's good for you :P . what about wheels tyres and body?

Edited by toffy

Hey thank Rekins that's really really helpful, I really appreciate your effort to do all that, thanks again. I will look into the mods you suggested and do a bit more research, thanks again you smarty pants  .

Thanks to you also Toffy, thanks for your input and opinion. The reason why I am going spring's rather then coilovers is because I did research and the outcome of it was to have springs if just daily driving and being a steeter. You will feel more comfy and it will satisfy your needs compared to coilovers, hence why I am going to springs but I am thinking about tein super streets but I don't know. I need to look into more detail I think.

Oh yeh I can post my body and wheels as well, here's they are:

Thanks again guys for both your advice really appreciate it :( , will look into a bit more and do a bit more research and post back what I have changed etc. Still open to opinions etc on what I should do ; so feel free to write what ever.

Thanks again.

I was a bit suss on kingsprings thinking they were for the commodore bogans. However what makes them great is that they are progressive spring rate. So daily/city driving they are soft, once you push them, they stiffen up and provide the stiffness you require

So they are a great combination with good quality bilstein shocks. Coilovers are linear spring rate, so you either have very hard all the time or very soft all the time. I like the flexibility of progressive hence my choice towards kingsprings

Exterior:

- Genuine Nissan Skyline R32 GT-R Bonnet

- Genuine Nissan Skyline R32 GT-R Grill

- Genuine Nissan Skyline R32 GT-R N1 Front Bumper - Doesnt need to be N1, can cut the holes and put in the slots yourself

- Genuine Nissan Skyline R32 GT-R N1 Side Skirts - Wont fit on gtst body, due to larger rear guards on gtr

- Genuine Nissan Skyline R32 GT-R N1 Pods

- Genuine Nissan Skyline R32 GT-R N1 Headlights

- Genuine Nissan Skyline R32 Clear Headlight Covers - wtf is this?

- Xenon Headlight Conversion - ???? do you mean a Chinese HID kit? forget it, all they do is blind others on the roads and piss me off

- Window Tint 20%) - under 18% or go home

Wheels & Tires:

- Rear: Nissan Skyline R33 Factory Option GT-R Rims 17 x 9 + 30

- Front: Toyo R1R Semi-Slicks 235 – 40 – 17 - i dont even think this is proper rolling diametre

Thanks again.

Read this: http://www.carbibles.com/tyre_bible.html

Work out a proper rolling diametre on the 2nd page. (find standard r32 gtst tyre/rim size)

Also i believe those tyres you listed are overkill if its just a streeter, get some bridgestone Adrenalins

You wont need a z32 airflow meter if you are not upgrading turbo, injectors and getting a tune.

Front and Rear Swaybars

+1 !!! great streeter setup. also add a decent diff of some sore depending on what you want the car for... 1 way / 1.5 way / 2 way.... decent seat / gtr seats.

^^ commented  . the air flow meter is just a sensor that meters the amount of air travelling through the pipes for the engine to ingest, z32 being 80mm and reading a higher voltage means your tuner can adjust your air fuel ratio at higher air flow rates (more power)

note: this is just my opinion :)

where is the turbo upgrade? Youve listed every supporting mod except the turbo.

if you not replacing the turbo, you dont need gtr injectors or z32 afm. They are only required once you start pushing 200kw+

Suspension setup sounds just like mine  Superpro is another company which makes suspension bits for skylines, they are competitive in price so have a browse of them.

Look at QFM HPX brake pads, a cheaper and better option (imo) than bendix's

R33 GTST front calipers can also be used for the fronts (prob cheaper than gtr calipers)

    • I myself AM TOTALLY UNPREPARED TO BELIEVE that the load is higher on the track than on the dyno. If it is not happening on the dyno, I cannot see it happening on the track. The difference you are seeing is because it is hot on the track, and I am pretty sure your tuner is not belting the crap out of it on teh dyno when it starts to get hot. The only way that being hot on the track can lead to real ping, that I can think of, is if you are getting more oil (from mist in the inlet tract, or going up past the oil control rings) reducing the effective octane rating of the fuel and causing ping that way. Yeah, nah. Look at this graph which I will helpfully show you zoomed back in. As an engineer, I look at the difference in viscocity at (in your case, 125°C) and say "they're all the same number". Even though those lines are not completely collapsed down onto each other, the oil grades you are talking about (40, 50 and 60) are teh top three lines (150, 220 and 320) and as far as I am concerned, there is not enough difference between them at that temperature to be meaningful. The viscosity of 60 at 125°C is teh same as 40 at 100°C. You should not operate it under high load at high temperature. That is purely because the only way they can achieve their emissions numbers is with thin-arse oil in it, so they have to tell you to put thin oil in it for the street. They know that no-one can drive the car & engine hard enough on the street to reach the operating regime that demands the actual correct oil that the engine needs on the track. And so they tell you to put that oil in for the track. Find a way to get more air into it, or, more likely, out of it. Or add a water spray for when it's hot. Or something.   As to the leak --- a small leak that cannot cause near catastrophic volume loss in a few seconds cannot cause a low pressure condition in the engine. If the leak is large enough to drop oil pressure, then you will only get one or two shots at it before the sump is drained.
    • So..... it's going to be a heater hose or other coolant hose at the rear of the head/plenum. Or it's going to be one of the welch plugs on the back of the motor, which is a motor out thing to fix.
    • The oil pressure sensor for logging, does it happen to be the one that was slowly breaking out of the oil block? If it is,I would be ignoring your logs. You had a leak at the sensor which would mean it can't read accurately. It's a small hole at the sensor, and you had a small hole just before it, meaning you could have lost significant pressure reading.   As for brakes, if it's just fluid getting old, you won't necessarily end up with air sitting in the line. Bleed a shit tonne of fluid through so you effectively replace it and go again. Oh and, pay close attention to the pressure gauge while on track!
    • I don't know it is due to that. It could just be due to load on track being more than a dyno. But it would be nice to rule it out. We're talking a fraction of a second of pulling ~1 degree of timing. So it's not a lot, but I'd rather it be 0... Thicker oil isn't really a "bandaid" if it's oil that is going to run at 125C, is it? It will be thicker at 100 and thus at 125, where the 40 weight may not be as thick as one may like for that use. I already have a big pump that has been ported. They (They in this instance being the guy that built my heads) port them so they flow more at lower RPM but have a bypass spring that I believe is ~70psi. I have seen 70psi of oil pressure up top in the past, before I knew I had this leak. I have a 25 row oil cooler that takes up all the space in the driver side guard. It is interesting that GM themselves recommend 0-30 oil for their Vette applications. Unless you take it to the track where the official word is to put 20-50w oil in there, then take that back out after your track day is done and return to 0-30.
    • Nice, looks great. Nice work getting the factory parts also. Never know when you'll need them.
