what about a spoon? could that be appropriate silverware for a gunfight?

Taking a spoon to a gunfight is like trying to supercharge and turbocharge a RB25DE. Just go with the AK47 and put a fresh RB26 in it.

totally not worth it...

its not only the engine stuff you have to worry about, theres also these factors:

gearbox (25de is basically an rb20 box which isnt optimal for a 25det)

possibly tailshaft

brakes

fuel pump and other fuel delivery associated things

engine loom may be different (pretty sure it is)

ecu

exhaust setup

by the time you get all that done, you still have to take it through the pits and get it all "legal" although i personally wouldn't bother untill you get defected or something...

sell up for what you can, and get a nice neat gts-t to replace it with.

hey guys

just letting you know

i bought an r33 series 2 body with an engine in it yesterday..

the engines got 100,000 k's on it

im hiring out a storage garage to part it

i want the engine in my n/a as soon as possible

do you guys know of any mechanics which are good?

all that needs to be done is engine put in

because the guy i bought it off it going to take it out of the shell and prep it for installation

so my old engine just needs to be taken out and the new one needs to be plonked in

any of you guys interested? if not you guys know of any well priced mechanics which are not too bad at this type of stuff?

Dave is the owner you will also need a new clutch and flywheel machined all ancillary belts 100k service kit dont expect any change from 2k

Hey,

Are you serious?

My car at the moment already has an aftermarket clutch? Not sure it will be compaitable with a turbo?

Not sure what one it is because the guy i bought it off didnt do it

also ive got the whole car?

so can i use the flywheel off the turbo car ive got?

cheers

yeah man very serious, it may well be more than 2k as i bought my parts over a 4 week period prior to fitting i lost track of how much was spent

i can give a comprehensive run down later of everything i bought i supplied all parts to Dave he just fitted everything up

as it will take me 10 mins to get links of parts i bought i don't have that time atm but will tonight

ok website back up as promised

Engine Parts:

1 x Timing Belt Kit, Nissan RB20/25/26 DOHC $290.40

1 x Belt Set, Ancillary, Dayco, Nissan Skyline R33 GTS25(-t) & GTS-4 $66.00 << these have gone up

1 x Gasket, Intake, Genuine Nissan, R33, R34 & C34 (RB25) $86.90

1 x Gasket, Exhaust Manifold, Nissan RB20DE(T) & RB25DE(T) $116.60

1 x Engine mount $85

1x 5lt engine oil fully synthetic $50 Nulon turbo grade

1x oil filter

1x thermostat $55

1 x rear main seal $60 ( i paid less again 2nd hand but new)

Gearbox Parts:

1 x NPC HD ceramic clutch $550 (could get a cheaper clutch or stick with your own)

1 x flywheel machine $50 (if sticking with own clutch wont need this)

1 x Nismo Clutch Pivot $66 (only needed when getting a HD clutch)

1 x Clutch Slave Cylinder, Nismo, Big Bore, ECR33/BNR32 Push Type $242.00 (i bought 2nd hand but brand new :domokun: )

1 x Nismo Braided Line (not really needed but i got 2nd hand but brand new)

1 x gearbox out to muck around with clutch again $375 (shouldn't be needed my thrust bearing was wrong)

1 x Labour $880

then you have to factor shipping on all goods as most stuff i got was sourced interstate

ok everything that i replaced if i was to pay full price was $2982.90 i did how ever save my self a few hundred

and if you cheap out on parts you will break 2nd hand parts out of the other car and have to pull things down twice = more money

  • 3 weeks later...

yay.

Good luck with that. Well, you went against the advice of all the people whose advice you initially asked for. You shall emerge from this job either a hero to the little guys who say "it can be done on the cheap", or a bitter and angry person who has discovered a way to spend GTR dollars on a converted gtst which will have an even worse resale value.

You're keen on the car you have, believe me, I understand.

But they way you acted so horrified when someone posted that you could easily be up for $2k just leads me to believe you have truly not thought this through.

Sad note. sorry...

you talking about me?

me against everyone's opinion?

i listened to everyone's opinion and took the cheaper way out by buying an engine

i've actualy picked up this engine for a very very good price considering the money i'm getting back with parts im selling off it

i've already got a person whos private whos doing the installation for a good price

also the stuff off that list is coming off the car i bought which im going to keep completely stock at this moment

i dont get it why have i made such a bad decision?

i dont think its about u making a bad decision - buying an engine for spare parts is a very pragmatic thing to do imho

however

it does not necessarily solve your problem - you may very well fit a 2nd hand component and have the same thing happen again

its not a nice thing to think about, however once u start tweaking anything on a car past the manufacturers specs, all the supporting faculties need to be brought up to the proper standard

this is why ive spent $20k on my gtr over the last 3 years and done absolutely NO performance gaining mods - 20 yr old cars need work, no matter what anyone says

now, removing a turbo and the associated piping does take a while. double that if u have a gtr but ill assume ur running a single based upon ur posts

unless you are a dyno queen or a professional racer i would recommend a fast spooling turbo rather than a laggy one - and ignore the power requirement - the whole reason nissan opted for a parallel setup was to mitigate turbo lag, as inevitable as it is, however you can fit turbos that give you the best of both worlds for street use. the previous posts here have spelt out explicitly some of the best turbos to go with based upon their first hand experience. I personally would put Garrett above most brands (garrett rebuilds like HKS not counted) because thats who nissan chose to build their turbos for the entire run of the RB series engine.... ultimately the coolest thing about engine modding is that u can rebuild/mod the engine for >precisely< what u want to do with it, and im rather boring as I run my gtr as 99.9% street/daily and 0.1% track car

btw, even if u try to save money, a gtr will cost you money. a lot. dont take my word for it. just ask those who know.

    • You just need to remove the compressor housing, not the entire turbo. I would not be drilling and tapping anything with the housing still on anyways.
    • So, I put my boat on a boat. First of all, I'm going to come out and say it. Why is Tasmania not considered a holy goal, an apex that all road-legal modified cars go to, to experience? This place is an absolute wonderland of titanic proportions. If people are already getting club runs for once in a lifetime 30 person cruises to Tassy then I've never seemed to see it. It is like someone replaced the entire place with an idyllic wonderland for cars, and all of the people living there with paid actors who are kind, humble, and friendly. Dear god. After doing a lap of almost all of the place I've found that it's a great way to find out all of the little things that the car isn't doing quite right and a great way to figure it all out. All in all, I drove for 4 hours a day for a week and nothing broke. I didn't even need to open the engine bay. This is by all means a great success, but it has left me with a list of things to potentially address. I also now have a 3D printed wheel fitment tool which annoyingly hasn't got any threads in it to actually assemble it. I might be able to tape it together to check the sizing I actually want to use, but it'll likely involving pulling the shocks out to properly measure travel at least at the front, and probably raise the car while I'm at it, at least in the rear. I scraped on quite a few things and I'm not sure how else to go about it. I was taking anything with a bump at what felt like 89 degree angles. And address those 10 other tasks. And wash the car. God damn it is dirty. And somehow, the weather was perfect the entire time - And because I was on the top of Mt Wellington it turns out it was very much about to freeze up there. I did something I typically never do and took some photos up there in what must have been -10 and the foggy felt like suspended ice, rather than mere fog. If you own a car in Australia, you owe it to yourself to do it.
    • Damn that was hilarious, and a bit embarrassing for skylines in general 😂 vintage car life ey. That R33 really stomped. Pretty entertaining stuff
    • Hi, I have a r32 gtr transmission. Does any of you guys have an idea how much power it will hold with the billet center plate and stock gearset? At what power level and use did yours brake with or without billet plate? Thanks, Oystein Lovik
    • Saw this replica police car based on a Mitsubishi Starion XX parked next to a 'police box' (it's literally a box) in Hirohata, Himeji City in Hyogo prefecture the other day. It's owned by Morii-san who is a local Mitsubishi Starion enthusiast. According to a local radio station blog post, he always wanted to make a police car himself based on ones he saw in his favourite Manga comics.  As it's illegal to modify a car to look like a police car and drive on the road, Morii-san tried many times to get permission from Aboshi police station headquarters nearby. They refused initially by after they got tired of that they granted him permission. However, the car can only be displayed on private property and obviously can't be registered as long as the police livery is present. The car was completed at a cost of 1.5 million yen (US$ 10,000) in addition to the car cost. A location was chosen outside Hirohata Police box where the car can easily been seen from the street. Morii-san has two other Starion road cars, both widebody GSR-VRs.
