Got my GTR inspected for NSW rego this morning (pink slip) and while I was there the guy told me the following;

Engineers certs are now only valid for 3 months from the date of issue (and that AKZ - John, is no longer certified!)

and that if an import like ours is taken off the road for longer than 3 months after the expiration of rego, then they will NOT allow them to be re-registererd... this is where a blue slip is normally required (I had 1 day LOL), but apparently they won't allow!?!?!.

anyone heard this?

needless to say, I passed the inspection without a drama off to wakie soon

Certainly is two separate jurisdictions.

The similarities are that ACT often adopts changes first implemented in NSW (weight rules anyone?), as well as accepting signatory engineers from other jurisdictions.

Surely the 3month expiry for an engineer's cert refers to the time from when the engineer signs off on it and when the car fronts up to the pits/has the cert number amended to rego sticker. If thats the case then fair enough I reckon. Not being able to re-register after lapsing for 3months is pretty serious though!

The inspector was probably referring to the fact that the engineering cert is only valid if the vehicle is registered within 3 months of issue.

Says this on the form:

This certificate must be presented to the RTA within three months of the date of issue if

the vehicle is to be registered. The RTA may not accept a certificate if it is presented more

than three months after its date of issue.

Sample of the form here:

http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/registration/dow...3march_2010.pdf

Of course anything could happen when they replace the existing vehicle standards with VSCCS sometime this year.

all the more reason not to bother paying for an engineers certificate.

ACT is great you just keep paying and they think your car is still on the road. no need to go to dickson as long as you dont let it lapse for more than 11 months 30 days 23 hours and 59 minutes.

Shhhhh, we're hoping they don't notice.

I seriously doubt this would be inacted given almost every car on the road is imported from somewhere or another. They would have to define 'Import'.

no, I think this refers to low volume imports such as ours. not the mainstream like MB, BMW, VW etc...

    • Nice car! I’m glad folks in the US have gotten past the FnF and are buying real cool cars like the 260RS I was with a bunch of mates in Portland about a year ago and spotted a green Stagea (just a regular 2.5T AWD) parked about 2 blocks away and they were like “a what?” So I made a bet with them for a round of beers and said “ok one of you run down there and tell me if the steering wheel is on the correct side” 5 mins later the American comes trudging back up the hill and goes “he’s right guys. Ok what beer do you want?”
    • Should replace OR drop the tank, give it's good clean. Might be worth replacing that entire fuel level/pump/cradle thing with this: https://frenchysperformancegarage.com/products/fpg-s13-180sx-r32gtst-single-pump-hanger-kit-billet-hat-6-v3-fpg-089?gQT=2
    • Thank you so much for the help
    • Yes it is ATF. I quote @Duncan "it takes a good synthentic auto trans fluid like Castrol Transmax Z" It's not a diff. It's a transfer case. Totally different thing. Yes, fluid will come out the sender hole. No you do not really need to drain it. Just pull the old, quickly poke the new, clean up and top up. But realistically, you should probably take the opportunity to change it anyway.
    • Hey all. I’m looking on replacing my speed sensor on my R33 GTR. Will the center differential need to be drained, and if so, the center diff uses ATF fluid D? I found information on the transmission, front diff and rear diff. Can’t find a for sure answer for the center diff. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
