G'day, just joined up this morning as im looking to go twin cam on my VL turbo. Can anyone point me in the direction of where i can get my current engine rebuilt (single cam RB30ET) but with a twin cam RB26 head. As im very fussy about work being done for my car im looking for a shop with a reputation for perfection and don't mind paying a bit more for it. As it is a street car im not going to over the top with it it just has to be very well built and reliable.

any assistance is much appreciated.

thank you.

I think the first problem that your going to come across is that with a RB30ET bottom end with a RB26 head you going to have VERY low compression. I think a R34 RB25 head will give you a more suitable compression ratio, either that or rebuild your bottom end with some suitable pistons.

you still havent answered the location question, we cant make reccomendations on where to go if you dont say where you are.

Sorry mate, was a bit late when i logged back on last night. Car is currently in Melbourne but will be moving to Sydney in about 4 weeks. So i can pull the engine and leave it there to be done or wait and get it done somewhere up in NSW. Doesn't really matter where as engines are easily crated and freighted. I have a few leads from the guys on Calais Turbo but they are mostly single cam specialists in Melbourne (JPC, Rajab etc).

greg @ proengines built my donk, great guy, great service & great price :)

id prefer not to use pro engines thanks mate.

Guilt toy has suggested Red R Racing in Newcastle, he has given me some contact details for them so ill see what they have to offer. Ive also been recommended to see Nizpro and Racepace in Melbourne and Croydon Racing in Sydney by a few guys ive spoken to. Just need to chat to these guys and throw around a few idea's, the main one is a factory appearance (i understand they look different but want to use items like airboxes and recirc. blow off valves etc) but still making good power without too much noise as VL turbo's have a bit of a poor reputation on the street. Picked up a genuine A8 bottom end in Thomastown today so i can use it as a base and keep the original engine complete.

    • I can see between the water jacket and cyl 3 there wasn't a hard line of combustion gas. It certainly appears that the issue is coming from there. Yes, checked the tension. All at 100ft lbs where I set them 5 years ago. These blocks can crack but generally when they have been over bored. Mine is only 0.5mm oversize at 89.5mm. They break between cylinders around the 91mm mark. No sign of that with mine. My gut feeling is the head gasket lifted a while back when the studs stretched and i bandaided it by retorquing the studs. It's finally let go.

    • So, version 4 intake is on its way I was looking at these a while ago but at around $200 or more it was a little pricey for something that might not work, but, I had it in my watch list, but, I got a message saying it was on special, and I had a code thingie to use, it eventually came in at $120 delivered, so BAM, BUY NOW.....LOL I'll need to have a look when it arrives but I feel it will "look" better than what I currently have, as it comes with a PCV fitting, so I will be able to get rid of the alloy pipe that goes to the throttle body with the PCV fitting  Well, that's what the voices in my head are telling me  Oh, and this happened today Yeap, it was a Trojan, and it was cheap, so I headed back to the hardware store and actually spent a little bit more on a heavy duty,  one that was actually recommended by a plumber mate, a Cyclone one with a fibreglass handle that is actually rated for clay The broken shovel will eventually be "modified" into a short handle shovel
