Ok guys,

I know my car doesn't have airbags (least i think i know)...

there's no room...

1992 R32 GTS-t...

The drivers side flip down sun visor thingy has a labe that says SRS airbags... (could have been replaced easy)...

but at the front there is (what looks to be) 2 airbag sensors......

I thought it was an ambient sensor but there's 2 and they look like airbag sensors????....

can someone maybee post a pic of what the front should look like?

cheers,

Dave.

The airbag was optional on the later R32 GTR's, unsure about GTSt's. But mines a 1992 model and has the same visor, so I guess Nissan were planning on putting airbags in so just used one generic sunvisor with the srs warning on it to save costs.

The sensor wouldn't be in the visor - or are you talking about the dash?

If your car has airbags it will have an SRS warning light in the instrument cluster, just like all cars with ABS have an ABS warning light. But I'd say the visor would have been replaced as part of compliance, because jap visors are apparently dangerous and ours have much better levels of cushioning.

Don't go crashing your car to test if it has airbags now will you ;)

I've never heard of a visor being replaced for compliance, I'll have to take your word on that one ;)

*It could also be that every car gets the same visor - with the same printing, regardless of what it is optioned with

* whether it is legal or not, the japanese *seem* far less worried about ditching a factory airbag wheel

* it may be possible to work out what it was optioned with, by checking the #'s (tyre placard area? not sure, that's where it is on my rx7, never checked on the skyline) - I had a full list of option codes but I gave the magazine away to my brother-in-law - maybe it's been posted here before by someone

mine has the same label on the drivers side visor (all jap writing with SRS airbag being only in english)... it is a 93 R32 gtst. if it was put on during compliance it probably would have been an aussie visor hence there would be no jap writing on it, so my guess is it came out factory and nissan stuffed up..

not too sure what that chip/sensor thing that is on the dash near bottom of the windscreen on the passenger side. i have asked the question before on here and nobody could tell me....

my visor is the same

its a "sun sensor" for the climate control

my guess is it came from factory with the sticker and wud read on the label something along the lines of...." If vehicle fitted with srs airbag then....." dont know jap but wud be nice if sum1 can confirm my theory.

cauz they cant really guess how many cars will have air bag, therefore how are they suppose to know how much visors to manufacture ???

easier for factory to build all the same and put a sticker on.

what do u guyz reckon ???

what about this bit in particular... the sun visor isn't such a big problem because as someone said it may say "if this vehicle is fitted with an SRS airbag...".....

I am more curious about the 2 airbag sensor lookie things behind the front bumper.....

Mines a 92 Type m and it doesnt have an airbag but does have the warning label. So it is safe to assume that all cars have the warning label, even if they dont have airbags.

What sensors are you talking about?

Whilst we are at it, can someone translate the other side, the vit about the exhaust temperature warning light?

airbags do not go off on externally mounted sensors.....they are triggered by either the seat belt storks being stretched or the belt itself.....there is also a seneor/module unit that sits underthe consol....thats all...no parts outside the car

I got a 1993 GTS and it has the airbag warnings too... and just recently I've found out that it was a GTS VSpec 2 (yes it exists my dealer warranty from japan says it to so its proof enough), which comes with a factory GTR steering wheel, so I dunno if it has or ever had a airbag in it.

But the sensor next to the windscreen is a climate control sensor... how do I know... well I took the dash off n forgot to plug it in and all my car did was blow hot air.

if u wanna no if it has airbags, just turn on tha car (without crnaking it) so that your dash lights up like a xmas tree...if it has airbags, there will be a SRS light, just like ABS, Hicas, 4Wd, oil, etc)

dont know abt those sensors, unless they were a parking sensor type gimick in japan, and tha previous owner took out tha in cabin control module, but i dont know why they would bother removing it.

Typo...

There was a GTS25t Type M "Spec I" and a GTS25t Type M "Spec II"... no GTS25t V-Spec Funky, sorry.

ooo ooo ooo for once you're not right and I'mma gonna enjoy this moment rezz ol pal

I just happened to have this in my glovebox in my car when I go it... scanned in a few low res scans for you... oh look it says GTS V Selection 2 :D

    • And if you want more power, more reliably, and cheaper, go get the Aussie RB... The 4L Barra and put that in instead.
    • No cats will keep discolouring the rear bar. Sends white paint a weird yellow stain. Cut and polish normally gets it out, but you'll be doing that every fortnight I found.
    • Both heads will be equally reliable or unreliable depending on what you do to them.  Stock the RB26 head will flow more. You have access to the stock intake ITB manifold on the RB26 cheaply which flows really well(1000hp+).   Arguably more aftermarket support for RB26, though in Aus we love our RB30 SOHC heads too.    The only downsides to the RB26 head is if you have a VL commodore and want to keep the SOHC look.  Where you may have an issue is drilling out the rb30 block for the bigger head studs but if you are building a big power motor you'd probably put bigger studs on the SOHC head too.  This is just about finding a good machine shop, sometimes easier said than done.  RB30 head worked can make big power just like a Rb26 head, so really it actually more comes down to what your preference is for your car.  People now even making billet versions of both.
    • 2630s work perfectly well. There is something to be said for just using the 30 head, as it saves all the pain of the conversion, still makes tons of power, still sounds cool, etc etc. 2630 will obviously make more power again, but the differences are not stupidly big. It really depends on whether you're racing for sheep stations or not. If it's dead serious, then it's a 26 head. If it's just for fun, it could go either way. But the 26 head and the effort to get it set up, etc etc, is part of the fun.
    • I've been building a 26/30 for a few years now. I've had the head built with all the good stuff. I had a 32 gtr but blew it up and yes its all going into a vl but im looking for some advice from some RB nuts on pros and cons on putting a 26 head on a 30 bottom end is it worth it Works are as follows Head -Extensive porting 1mm oversized supertech valves Supertech double springs Supertech valve guides Supertech titanium retainers Tomei solid lifters Tomei 270 x 10.25 cams Head drain Bottom end series 2 rb30 block Cp ceramic coated pistons Eagle rods Romac balancer Oil restrictions  O ringed blah blah spent a fortune And will get a girdle because the 30s arent used to handling that much rpm Nitto billet oil pump Hypertune plenum 6boost mani Refurbed astra pump thats the cover for it in the boot I did have a precision 6262 but sold it because drag car life. Currently building the ass end full 4 link floater rear end with a 2 speed  But the dilemma i have is my mate rekens I should just stick with the 30 head for reliability. Has any one had any issues with mounting the 26 head ie compression blowing gaskets etc. Just looking for some advice from people who have gone down this route. Here's some photos. Blew the oil pump in the gtr and decided to rip the motor out at the time and do a full build only to find it had been a repairable write off so went down this path.
