Bit quick on the "harrassment" trigger that buddy...

If it's on the manufacturer's tyre placard as 670 load rating or higher, I don't see that as being harassment.

Instead, I have to question Nissan's motive for putting such a high load rating for the car.

Really wouldnt cops have better things to do than hassel james about something as pity as this? Y not catch someone who is breaking a law

A bit quick but ultimately im right and you know it. :D

The tyre placard was placed on his car by an imbecile.

Although I think it's being incredibly nit-picky, technically a law has been broken.

How many times do you cross a street not near a crossing a week? That is technically jay walking so you should be fined for each time you do it, but u wont coz it a :bs!: law 99% of the time.

Don't misconstrue what I've written INASNT. James was picked up on a technicality because he's done most of his modifications legally. I'm not condoning the action of the Police officer, but if he's been told to come down hard on imports by his superiors, then he is simply following orders.

Victoria has been ***ed up since steve bracks became premier. If u lived here you would know that 95% of the canaries the cops hand out here are bs, especially on imports. Its all about the $165 fine they give you for driving a modified vehicle they care about, even worse now coz the fault revenue raising speed camera are not operational for atleast another month coz the vic government was in such a rush to make extra $$ they went out and bought cheap faulty cameras which cant even be sent back to their manufactuer to be repaired as the manufacturer has gone broke!!!

It really pisses me off when cops pick on pety things like this when theres so much crime going on elsewhere that they do nothing about. U are better off being a criminal in victoria, u will get hasseled by the cops less.

Rant over.

Have just been to see Dean at UPI - and now have a 'new' placard that states 600kg as a minimum. Also visited Ice - and took photos of the placard on the GTRs there: 1 was for 600kg, 1 was for 580kg (R34 GTR).

As NRB said - technically, these tyres were illegal for my car. It just so happens that it might have been the placard that was wrong, and not the tyres - but I didn't know that, and I wouldn't have expected the police to either.

The officers involved have all been very helpful - it's their job to inspect cars. Sure, they didn't inspect anyone else... but still. The lead officer was actually concerned that he made a mistake - as the 93 index is pretty high. His XR6-Turbo had 615kg tyres on it, and I'm sure there' snot that big a weight difference between the cars. Hell - with all the pursuit gear, his may be heavier than mine!

What it would seem though - is the placard on my car is the exception to other cars. I will present my case to VicRoads - showing that most GTRs are asked to be above 600kg, some above 580kg - and my tyres are rated at 650kg.

I'll keep you posted on how I get on.

Also - once this is sorted, I'll fit the 600kg placard to the car (it states it's for an R33 GTR, whereas mine does not) - so this never happens again :D

But... I guess it's something to be mindfull of.

Thanks again all for your help.

Well... I can't really complain about anything.

They inspected my car as they are being told to do.

The sticker said 670+, my tyres said 650 - therefore, defect.

Sure it's a pain, but they are doing their job.

At the end of the day, the police weren't wrong about the tyres, the sticker is wrong. If I had been running tyres that were grossly under the vehicle's weight rating, it could be very dangerous.

I wont pay a fine but I also wont get the hours of running around trying to sort this out credited to me.

I WILL write a letter to Stonnington TMU - detailing what happened, but more as an informative note so they know for future reference. The real complaint is to VicRoads for not having a standard placard for GTRs. And they'll be getting a letter too :D

Dude thats bullshit.

93 is 650kg x 4 = 2600 kg

Your GTR does not even come close to needing tyres with a higer load index. This is harrassment and you should file a complaint.

Well what happens when you go around a corner quickly? I'd say there would be a lot more load on the tires when you go around a corner.

What if cornering hard and hitting a pot hole... ouch... I can see the reason for the high requrements, Just covering their asses for the worst.

And i haven't mentioned towing either :(

    • For these last 7 years of ownership, I've always had to use a small scissor jack under one of the front tow hooks to raise the front just enough so my low-profile jack fits under to reach my subframe jack point. I'm beginning to get annoyed of always having to do this. Are there any lower low-profile jacks that fit under the gtr lip on a dropped car?
    • Seat of the pants assessment of the new intake: The car is way less "doughy" when hitting the loud pedal, especially off idle when stopped or in traffic, I did use a cheapo lazer thermal thingo to measure the temp around where the pod filter got its air, it was between 55 - 60°C, in saying this the car was shut off and not moving, so the OEM intake pipe was not supplying any fresh air to where the pod was when the car was at least moving A weird bonus was induction noise on the throttle in the cabin increased a bit,  I was worried that I was actually going to lose some of that induction noise I love so much, outside though, when I got the daughter to do a WOT drive by pass for me, the induction noise has increased alot when on the throttle, not quite ITB doort, but well up there I'm extremely happy with the results and have been exploring the country roads in the region  As for house mods: 1.New front fence is up and is awesome, it really upgraded how the joint looks from the street, and the added security is nice 2. Electricians have replace some interior lights, and with more lighting in the garage, a few new motion detecting lights out the front above the garage, front room, and at the front door, which I have already found heaps helpful coming and going, also now has fancy pants CCTV all round the house The only hold point for power though is the solar and batteries due to supply issues, although this will happen over the next few weeks 3. I have done a heap of landscaping out the front and I'm almost ready to do a new small retaining wall with some nice blocks to replace the brick and cemented in rocks around the raised garden beds cemented in river stone "was the fashion at the time" the house was built. I currently have a pallet of retaining wall blocks and 2 bulka bags of 20mm blue metal to replace the wood chip that is in the raised garden beds around the house 4. I now have 3 big raised garden beds for out the back to grow some vegetables, about 70cm high, 200cm long and 100cm wide 5. My 2 compost bins are already pretty full with brown, green and kitchen waste from the landscaping I'vedone so far, but they will probably take a few months to break down, so anything else that gets chopped, trimmed, and kitchen waste will just start filling the base of the raised garden beds to about 30cm before I start throwing 40cm of good compost, and stuff, for the vegetables to grow in, I'll need a few ton of compost and soil, but the local supplier can sent me bulka bags of the stuff Basically the logs, wood chips and a few strategically placed rocks for drainage, will give the beds some good organic materials down low to break down over time, and they will hold moisture during the warmer months to save the water in my big arse water tank if we don't get alot of rain So, all in all, the car and house mods are going well, and I'm really enjoying being retired, I sleep in too 0700 and slowly plod around inside until I feel like actually doing anything, and only work in the yard for as long as want, which has actually been alot over the last few weeks,  although when you look at it, it seems that not a huge amount of work has been done,  until I look at the before I started the work pics Happy days and good times indeed
    • hahaha yeah. Plan is to get side skirts and probably just rear pods. But going to do them one-by-one. I've got a set that I really like from RHDJapen, but that one isn't shipped to AU. So need to find someone who can get it for me
    • Here's an idea, answer the questions I asked you as they are trying to work out WHY the LSD will be binding up in a straight line.
