Hi guys

Recently bought a 1995 R33 GTS25T M-spec.

iv got a pod filter and 3 inch full exaust so far. Iv been working my ass off and managed to earn 4 grand which i want to blow all on my car.

what would you guys do to your car in my situation.

i was thinking some 18's and Front mount..... im looking for performance.

also chipping it sounds good. But i really have no idea. Iv herd that its better to get new ecu or something like that rather than a power chip.

plz help me out fellas cheers.

Advanced driving course $500

FMIC - $1500

Make sure you budget for incidentals as they always always always pop up

There are a couple of ways to go here. If you assume that you don't want to upgrade the standard turbo then what you want is a package that makes the most of it performance wise.

Lightweight flywheel and heavy duty clutch plate --- $1300, Replacing the flywheel will improve your accelleration significantly and the new power is going to kill the old clutch anyway so replace that while your at it.

S-AFC II --- $600 inc tune, these are quite cheap to get the afr's in the right spot and cost $100 to tune since they only take less than an hour on a dyno. Plus you can always recover most of what you spent on them by selling it when the new ecu replacement is really needed (say on a new big turbo).

Bleeder valve --- $90, It's not fancy but it will do to get the boost to 10-12 psi and they are very easy to put in yourself.

Adjustable exhaust cam gear --- $150, nothing like making 10 horses more right through the power band and getting the turbo in 500rpm earlier.

High volume fuel pump --- $350, see how you go here

With the rims, try to get yourself some lightweight forged ones. If you must get 18's then do so but understand that they are in my opinion a little too big to be considered a performance upgrade. Try find some nice looking forged 16x8's or 17's and spend the spare coin on good rubber.

Leave the PFC and front mount till you are getting ready for a bigger turbo if you ever decide to go that way. The front mount or aftermarket side mount could be purchased earlier if you want to start circuit racing.

Regarding the adjustbale cam gears, the HPI guys tried a Tomei one on their project R34 GTT and they found that 0 degree's is still the best setting, so i dunno how this goes for a good mod, value for money anyway. Definately the best way to utilise any mod's is to get a computer, so as people have mentioned something like a second hand Power FC would eb a good option, they usually around $1-1,200, a fuel pump is about $280 for a bosch 040 good for 500hp and is internal and requires little modifications to fit into the factory fuel pump cage. A boost controller will allow you to turn it up to about 10-11psi to keep it safe until u get a FMIC and or aftermarket turbo/hi-flow etc. Tuning for the computer will be around the $350 mark i'd imagine for dyno time is usually about $150-165 per hour and takes at least a few hours. So ya lookign at about $1850-2000 for those mod's depending onw hat boost controller you choose to use, electronic is definately the way to go if you can afford it. And as for the wheels, the market now days is a lot cheaper than i tuse to be. Especially with guys like Lenso making a good rim at very affordable prices, Big-O tyres have any Lenso wheel in 18's with Falken tyres for $1990 which is good if you aren't after a set of high-po Volk's or Racing Hart's etc cos then ya talking double that just for the rims.

The camshaft duration on the R34 neo motor is different to the R33 RB25det from memory. On top of that the setting of the exhaust cam requires a change to the base timing as well. Funny how people don't do this and end up wondering why the exhaust cam gear mod does nothing.

I have a 1995 R33 and I can assure you the exhaust cam gear is good value for money. I have plenty of good evidence for my advice from my own car.

BTW you might like to partition the pod filter if it isn't already as the power actually drops over the stock filter without a cold air partition in there.

Doesn't this put extra stress on the gearbox though? Excuse me if I'm wrong, my automotive knowledge is pretty non-existent (but gotta start somewhere right?)

and if so, isn't it better to blow the clutch every so often than the gearbox?

It won't put much stress on the gearbox. The Skyline gearbox can handle a lot of power. It's when you start running into the 9's when you consider changing the internals of your gearbox.

If you’re doing a performance upgrade then changing the clutch and flywheel is a great idea, as it helps transfer the power to the wheels, where it should be, a lot easier.

In regards to R33s-Goesoff's message, you should really budget in a FMIC as this is important when boosting your turbo. Make sure you have a good dump pipe, with separate wastegate pipe, front pipe and high flow cat to match your three inch exhaust.

You should also set yourself a goal or a limit. Say for example 200rwklws. That way you have something to budget for. There's no point seeing what 4 grand will get you, because the more you look the more you'll want to spend. Especially with these cars. :wassup:

it all depends on what u r looking for on ur car - wheels, bodykit or performance.

i just spent $4200 on t04 highflow, microtech LTX16, custom inlet plenum with xf throttle body, exhaust manifold and dump/front pipe, turbosmart external 35mm wastegate, malpassi rising rate adjustable fuel regulator, bosch motorsport 700hp fuel pump, new fmic pipes to suit plenum and turbo design

also ive just spent about another $1300 on a set of forgies with rings etc

goodluck with deciding on which way u like to go

    • Even more fun, leave all the ADAS stuff plugged in, but in different locations, hopefully avoid any codes!   And honestly, all these new cars with their weird electronics. Pull all the electronics out Duncan, and just shove an aftermarket ECU and if needed a trans controller in, along with a PDM. Make it run basic but race car styled!
    • To follow up a question from earlier too since I had the front bar off again (fking!) This is what is between the bumper and the drivers side wheel And this is the navigator side, only one thing but its a biggy! So basically....no putting coolers in the wheel arches without a lot of moving other stuff. Assuming I move to properly race prepping this car I'll take that job on and see how the computers respond to removing a whole bunch of ADAS modules
    • So I prepped the car for another track day on Wednesday (will be interesting to see coolant temps post flushing out and the larger reservoir, with a forecast of 3-14 being 20o cooler than last time I took it out). Couple of things to mention; since I am just driving the car and not taking a support vehicle, I took the rear seats out and just loaded the back up Team Trackday style. Look at all that space! To cover off removing the rear seat....it is weird (note the hybrid is probably different because it wouldn't have folding rear seats) Basically, you remove the lower seat base, very similar to a r series but it is a clip that pulls forward to release the base rather than it being bolted down. Easy Then, you need to remove the side section of the rear seat on each side. There is a 14mm head nut at the bottom of the side piece, the it slides upwards off a hook at the top to release; you also need to unhook the seatbelt from the loop at the top. Then the centre piece is weird. You need to release/fold the seats forward with the tab in the boot on each side From there, there are 2,x12mm headed bolts holding the rear of each seat to the folding bracket, under the trim between the rear seat and the boot (4x christmas tree clips there, they suck). The seat is out but you can see where the bolts attach to the bracket
    • As discussed in the previous post, the bushes in the 110 needed replacing. I took this opportunity to replace the castor bushes, the front lower control arm, lower the car and get the alignment dialled in with new tyres. I took it down to Alignment Motorsports on the GC to get this work done and also get more out of the Shockworks as I felt like I wasn't getting the full use out of them.  To cut a very long story short, it ended up being the case the passenger side castor arm wouldn't accept the brand new bush as the sleeve had worn badly enough to the point you could push the new bush in by hand and completely through. Trying a pair of TRD bushes didn't fix the issue either (I had originally gone with Hardrace bushes). We needed to urgently source another castor arm, and thankfully this was sourced and the guys at the shop worked on my car until 7pm on a Saturday to get everything done. The car rides a lot nicer now with the suspension dialled in properly. Lowered the car a little as well to suit the lower profile front tyres, and just bring the car down generally. Eternally thankful for the guys down at the shop to get the car sorted, we both pulled big favours from our contacts to get it done on the Saturday.  Also plugged in the new Stedi foglights into the S15, and even from a quick test in the garage I'm keen to see how they look out on the road. I had some concerns about the length of the LED body and whether it'd fit in the foglight housing but it's fine.  I've got a small window coming up next month where I'll likely get a little paint work done on the 110 to remove the rear wing, add a boot wing and roof wing, get the side skirt fixed up and colour match the little panel on the tail lights so that I can install some badges that I've kept in storage. I'm also tempted to put in a new pair of headlights on the 110.  Until then, here's some more pictures from Easter this year. 
    • I would put a fuel pressure gauge between the filter and the fuel rail, see if it's maintaining good fuel pressure at idle going up to the point when it stalls. Do you see any strange behavior in commanded fuel leading up to the point when it stalls? You might have to start going through the service manual and doing a long list of sensor tests if it's not the fuel system for whatever reason.
