Hey guys,

Beforehand let me say I'll be doing manual swap on the daily Ceffy as soon as I've got all parts ready to go, but until then my auto box is getting a little bit confused.

9/10 it will start up, flash only the HOLD light, as it drives it will take off from second, and only use second and third gears, switching to HOLD will light it up on the dash, switching to POWER doesnt light up on the dash and driving stays the same.

Even in this mode of driving, selecting 1 with the selector, it uses second gear only, 2/D/D w/ OD off, uses third, even at 120kmp/h +

Sometimes however, it will start up, flash both lights, and use all gears, obviously HOLD works as per normal, and POWER does work.

Power/all gears working doesnt sem to be temperature related, works hot and cold if it wants to. Once it starts with power, it stays that way, it doesnt lose the gears.

Have replaced the hold/power switch, and checked the computer, nothing.

I'm assuming this is an eletrical issue, somewhere between the switch and the computer, or post computer, telling it to STAY in second and third only, for some reason, believing it is being told by the switch that it needs to.

Suggestions on where I can look to quick fix this ?

Could be resorting to this car as daily driver, so having all gear ratio's will be incredibly handy for fuel economy (4th gear at 100 is 2300rpm :bunny: )

Make yours manual and cut a sunroof into it, and I'll consider.

f**k taking it to a workshop, especially a jap work shop, even if they sponsor hot young females like Carla.....flamin mongrels will be all like "aww but the ceffy is pretty rare, this'll be a hard one to fix, 9 hours labor, and you'll need new spark plugs too, thats $200 because we have to order them from Japan"...you know its true Rowan!

No.

More suggestions please :bunny:

Gearbox seized up this arvo.

Manual gearbox in the Ceffy in the shed dropped half its oil supply out of the output shaft on attemped removal.

Floor jack slipped, denting in oil sump on 20DET, and droping entire engine+gearbox weight into steering rack and lines.

Ready to throw in the towel again.

:whistling:

  • 2 weeks later...

OK gearbox problems were independant, as for gear selection (or lack of) is ANOTHER problem.

Narrowed engine problem down to crank angle sensor.

Couldnt find an RB20E CAS so I got a RB30E CAS but doesnt fit RB20E dizzy, SO I'm on the hunt for an RB30E dizzy (you think theyd be easy considering the number of busted VLs and RB30DET builds getting around)...if the problem isnt fixed by next weekend, it'll be getting a new motor and manual conversion, thanks for a dangerously cheap factory turbo manual C33 Laurel halfcut that is for sale locally (if I cant find the little problem, i'll flush the f**ker out with a whole new running gear!!)

But on a good note, the ceffy has a black interior the whole way through and I fitted a manual handbrake (with centre console and matching trim)....feels awesome sitting inside now, if only I could actually drive it.

    • Hi...so a "development" here aswell The swap is "done" and car went "test drive" BUT it seems the clutch(maybe gearbox?) is a little bit sad? I bought this clutch kit https://justjap.com/products/xtreme-heavy-duty-organic-clutch-flywheel-kit-nissan-skyline-r31-r32-r33-push-type "Problem" is that the first gear is hard to put into and it seems that the clutch is not disengaged. It was not the problem with the old clutch...(or like sometime the first gear would not get as easy specialy when the fluid was cold) So? Can it be like...bad "install" or is the clutch wrong ((it should not have been) i done research to get the right one) Or is this "normal" with new clutch and needs to be break in?
    • @Duncan I can try  and thanks i did not thought about VIN and part numbers for 33/34. @GTSBoy yeah it looks like iam gonna do that
    • Forgot to include this but this is the mid section of my steering rack that looks like it has a thread/can be turned with that notch mentioned in the post:
    • Hey everyone, Wanted to pick some brains about this issue I'm having with rebuilding my 33 rack (PN is 49001-19U05). All of the tutorials/videos I've seen online are either R34 or S Chassis racks which seem to be pretty straightforward to disassemble but this process doesnt carry over to my rack. Few of the key differences that I've noted The pinion shaft on the other racks bolt on with 3 torx bolts: Whereas my rack bolts on with 2 allen head bolts: These changes are pretty inconsequential but the main difference is how you pull the actual rack out of the housing. The other skyline/s chassis racks can be taken out by tapping the rack out of the body with a socket and it just slides right out. I'm unable to do that with my rack because there's a hard stop at the end that doesn't let the seal/shaft be tapped out. Can also see a difference in the other end of the rack where mine has a notch that looks like you're able to use a big wrench to unthread 2 halves of the rack whereas the other racks are just kinda set in with a punch. My rack: Other racks: TLDR; Wanted to know if anyone has rebuilt this specific model of steering rack for the R33 and if there were any steps to getting it done easier or if I should just give this to a professional to get done. Sorry if this post is a bit messy, first one I've done.
    • I would just put EBC back on the "I would not use their stuff" pile and move on.
