I was literally just looking at that...

and this... http://my105.com/classified.asp?id=12991

That's Chris Neale's old thing.... didn't it have an almighty smack somewhere????? Mute point anyway, SOLD.

The ex White's R34 (Genuine N1) was a bargain beside those R33's (with the exception of the Tassie N1)....... yes it needed some sorting but as an investment, walked over them. Has some good stuff on it too.

looks nice but what is it engine mods?

55k is alot of money but im sure you get alot of RnD in the car.

ActionDan, here are my calculation so far, if i go down the race/rally rego (which i think is only available in perth allows you to drive to and from events and workshops)

R33 GTR : 10-15k imported

Brake Kit: 5k-10k (there is a might big HKS kit which has 6pot front with something like 370*disc and 4pot rear with 355 disc for 8k + shipping) However there is a set for R35 Brembo which i am keeping an eye on for the time being :(

Suspension: 3k

Suspension arms: 4k ish

Rims: 3k

Cage: 1-3k depends if you go cams or j-spec

then you just need to add tyres and some power and you should have a pretty good setup gtr

Personally i think there is alot you can do to remove weight out of the gtr, i really haven't seen anyone here in aus go crazy with taking stuff out. i have afew ideas i think even with the AWD system you could drop it down to 1300kg ish

(remove abs, aircon, all the interior bits, remove wiring that isn't needed)

Just on a side note, i don't see many people running carbon ceramic disc, is there a reason why other than cost?

Is that the one that ended up on it's side in the trees?

I'd want a street reg'd one, even if i don't reg it at least it can be reg'd later or did you just buy a really cheap import?

Why did you need a big brake kit, how soon were you running out of brakes and why? From what speeds etc, I'm surprised to know that the factory calipers aren't that good if you had some slotted rotors, good pads and fluid plus some ducting?

4k for suspenion arms? wtf?! are you including sway bars in that?

Rims can deffo be had for cheaper.

For sure it's a good whack of money, but guesstimates from what I see on that car:

Clean 33 GT-R 20-25k

Brakes - 10k

Racepace engine - 15-25k with ancillaries

TE37's 3k

Cage 8-10k

Seats 3k

Harnesses 1k

Suspension 5k

Motec ECU and Dash 10k

Ap Peddle box 3k

Fire system 1.5k

Lexan Windows 1.5-2k

CF Bonnet 1k

Terratrip $500

Total near on 100k - plus labour.

Is that the one that ended up on it's side in the trees?

There was something about it...... I just can't put my finger on it. It was a loved road car when Chris Neale had it, a showroom pony for Neale's wheels (i remeber he fried the transfer by key-flicking back when it was near new! - $$$$$$), but I think it had a monumental at the Suncoast Classic tarmac rally a couple of years back..... Oldtimers is kickin in....

Haven't bought anything yet just trying to price everything up. If you want a rego gtr you are looking upwards of 20-25k landed and comp.

You can get stockish r33 gtr for around 900,000 to 1,250,000 yen its the complance cost that kills you :)

brakes i want to go big because i got fade wih my 4 pot ap (same size disc as gtr but bigger pads size) on my r33 gtst after 5-6 laps.

Suspension arms i want to replace pretty much everything with ik forumal gear, so i can play with the bump steer and run -3.5 degrees of camber.

Rims just ruff est i will most likely need to go 18-19inch depending on disc size and i want to run min 9.5 front and 19 rear with a +5 offset

You dont have to actually comply and reg it, just get a car that has the potential to be later. If it's imported as race/rally then it can never be reg', if it's imported as a normal car but left as track use only then at least you can legally comply it later if u want.

Only 5-6 laps and you got fade with better calipers, slotted rotors, good pads, good fluid and brake ducting? christ how fast are you going and what temps were you seeing?

Looking around and there are quite a few R33 GT-R's in the 19-22k mark that already have some basic mods and are complied and reg'd already in the country so be sure to look locally too.

no brake ducting, had N1 master, endless ccrg pads, endless slotted disc, and shell racing fluid. My gtst was not stripped , only had the rear seats out.

I am very hard on the brakes very late. I think what got them was the back straight 200km/hr + then braking very late and dropping my speed to 100

So realistically that brings you to 40k and you haven't touched on engine/ancillaries/labour etc....

Makes these 55k well setup cars a bargain in my opinion.

Trust me when I say it will cost you double that if you were to build one from scratch when you want to be at the pointy end of the field....

Just my 2c...

oh i 100% agree, i was just saying my cost so far in my build (well just pricing it up atm).

I'm a person who likes to do everything them-self and build to my needs, so buying an already built race car is not really an opinion for me unless it was a euro-race car (that is a different story)

cost me more in the long run but for some reason i like it that way :)

Ahh gtst. Be interesting to see what GT-R Brembo's with all those add ons plus some good ducting would do.

Standard 33 GT-R brembos will be at OK if you have less than 300rwks and doing 3 lap sprints (in a 33 GT-R), although you would have to have decent aftermarket slotted rotors, decent pads and decent fluid with decent braided lines. You'd want to make sure you inspect them thoroughly and bleed them before each track day aswell....

I guess you have to be happy at the end of the day but for me if a car that's already built and had all the money spent on it with proven results at the track, how can it get better than that??? Personally there's no substitute for experience and if the car has been built by a reputable workshop it's worth every cent...

Again my 2c of course.... :D

    • I know why it happened and I’m embarrassed to say but I was testing the polarity of one of the led bulb to see which side was positive with a 12v battery and that’s when it decided to fry hoping I didn’t damage anything else
    • I came here to note that is a zener diode too base on the info there. Based on that, I'd also be suspicious that replacing it, and it's likely to do the same. A lot of use cases will see it used as either voltage protection, or to create a cheap but relatively stable fixed voltage supply. That would mean it has seen more voltage than it should, and has gone into voltage melt down. If there is something else in the circuit dumping out higher than it should voltages, that needs to be found too. It's quite likely they're trying to use the Zener to limit the voltage that is hitting through to the transistor beside it, so what ever goes to the zener is likely a signal, and they're using the transistor in that circuit to amplify it. Especially as it seems they've also got a capacitor across the zener. Looks like there is meant to be something "noisy" to that zener, and what ever it was, had a melt down. Looking at that picture, it also looks like there's some solder joints that really need redoing, and it might be worth having the whole board properly inspected.  Unfortunately, without being able to stick a multimeter on it, and start tracing it all out, I'm pretty much at a loss now to help. I don't even believe I have a climate control board from an R33 around here to pull apart and see if any of the circuit appears similar to give some ideas.
    • Nah - but you won't find anything on dismantling the seats in any such thing anyway.
    • Could be. Could also be that they sit around broken more. To be fair, you almost never see one driving around. I see more R chassis GTRs than the Renault ones.
    • Yeah. Nah. This is why I said My bold for my double emphasis. We're not talking about cars tuned to the edge of det here. We're talking about normal cars. Flame propagation speed and the amount of energy required to ignite the fuel are not significant factors when running at 1500-4000 rpm, and medium to light loads, like nearly every car on the road (except twin cab utes which are driven at 6k and 100% load all the time). There is no shortage of ignition energy available in any petrol engine. If there was, we'd all be in deep shit. The calorific value, on a volume basis, is significantly different, between 98 and 91, and that turns up immediately in consumption numbers. You can see the signal easily if you control for the other variables well enough, and/or collect enough stats. As to not seeing any benefit - we had a couple of EF and EL Falcons in the company fleet back in the late 90s and early 2000s. The EEC IV ECU in those things was particularly good at adding in timing as soon as knock headroom improved, which typically came from putting in some 95 or 98. The responsiveness and power improved noticeably, and the fuel consumption dropped considerably, just from going to 95. Less delta from there to 98 - almost not noticeable, compared to the big differences seen between 91 and 95. Way back in the day, when supermarkets first started selling fuel from their own stations, I did thousands of km in FNQ in a small Toyota. I can't remember if it was a Starlet or an early Yaris. Anyway - the supermarket servos were bringing in cheap fuel from Indonesia, and the other servos were still using locally refined gear. The fuel consumption was typically at least 5%, often as much as 8% worse on the Indo shit, presumably because they had a lot more oxygenated component in the brew, and were probably barely meeting the octane spec. Around the same time or maybe a bit later (like 25 years ago), I could tell the difference between Shell 98 and BP 98, and typically preferred to only use Shell then because the Skyline ran so much better on it. Years later I found the realtionship between them had swapped, as a consequence of yet more refinery closures. So I've only used BP 98 since. Although, I must say that I could not fault the odd tank of United 98 that I've run. It's probably the same stuff. It is also very important to remember that these findings are often dependent on region. With most of the refineries in Oz now dead, there's less variability in local stuff, and he majority of our fuels are not even refined here any more anyway. It probably depends more on which SE Asian refinery is currently cheapest to operate.
