Picked up my new Black R35 GTR 4 weeks ago. There is a constant rattle in the back. When I apply the brakes, the noise goes away.

The dealer said it is normal and because the brake pads are undersized so they will not jam when they expand from heat on track days. Therefore they rattle.

They said all new R35 GTR's are the same. Surely not, every time a friend gets in the car they are amazed at how loud the brakes rattle. Makes the car sound and feel cheap. Not a good thing for a car that costs near $200K.

Other than the brakes, I love the car!

DOES ANYBODY KNOW HOW I CAN FIX IT, BECAUSE NISSAN SEEMS TO THINK IT IS OK??????????

IT IS DRIVING ME NUTS!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think it's the pad retainer clips. Is your car 2010 model? One of my friends is getting the HPC to order one from Japan. Check with the HPC first.

Thanks RCCC

It is a 2010 model.

The Nissan guy told me they come with a retainer clip standard?

Who or what is the HPC?

Also, does anybody else suffer this problem?

Many thanks!

rear pad rattle is "normal" however i would never call it "extreme". Just the odd clunk/clank. maybe something else going on if it really is extreme. you could try putting anti-squal (stick-on) shims (rear pads dont have them, whereas fronts do). if you are in sydney i have a bunch of the stick on anti-rattle shims if you want to try those.

you'll find as the pad meat gets less and less they cavitate around more

Thanks Guy's!!!!!

With the information you provided, I should be able to get it fixed.

Next!!!!

I am only one week away from my first 2,000K service and have decided that, straight after, I will install the full cat (primary) back 'Willel Racing' Titanium Exhaust system, Cobb access tuner, enlarged cold air tubes kit & filters from the air filter boxes to the engine intake plennum, as well as cold air ram/funnel intakes for cold positive pressure air delivery through to the front of the air filter boxes.

What sort of AWHP gain should I expect to see. Anyone know what sort of 0-100K and 400 mtr gains?

Also, any recommendations or added suggestions on my choices???

Thanks again.

Based on my experience these changes should see yo achieve btw 340 and 360 atw, and a 0-100 of 3.4seconds (from 3.7). Maybe an 11.3 quarter.

Do the dump pipes and intercooler pipes and boost controller and youll see a reliable 370 -380 (I had actuators too). I can do a reliable 3.0 0- 100, and high ten second quarter mile on standard 98 gas.

If you have bigger future plans, go straight for the 4 inch exhaust system. My HKS midpipe and dump pipes are fore sale shortly otherwise.

Thanks John D!

My Nissan service guy came up with a good fix. He used a bead of brake sealer Around the pad perimeter and it is now perfect. However next service I will add the 09 retainers!

My dealer also fitted a Willall mid pipe for me, what a difference and u win on all fronts, weight, power and sound!

I am looking forward to my first sprint day at QR to try my car out for the first time.

    • looking for some help and maybe some insight on others experience with a new LSD. R34 GT ran and drove beautifully, but always alot of grip loss due to the open R200 rear end, so I just installed a new 1.5 LSD way into the stock open R200 for a ER34. Simple. Everything seemed right. I test drove for the first time this weekend. as I started to back out the garage the first time slowly with tires straight it sounded and felt like I had a loose or half disconnected drive shaft...that was clucking around loose and shaking entire vehicle, and making it feel like the trans clutch was spontaneously slipping then grabbing very roughly while just letting out pedal slowly. I backed it out went to pull forward with the same noise, shake and slip grab feeling with hesitation, I turned the tires to back out more and then pulled ahead some same thing but worst because of added wheel resistance (which that I expected) puzzled … pulling it back in checking everything over and finding nothing wrong, I tried it the next day. same thing, couldn’t believe how it shook everything again making a terrible noise and making it feel like the trans clutch was slipping and grabbing, but I got it out of garage into the driveway, got it straight, drove forward and then reveres a few times in a straight line everything shaking , causing what felt like clutch slip and grab every time, sounded like right behind front driver tire and I could feel it in the floor board with my feet,... worst right when beginning to let clutch pedal out to engage slightly, shuttering and sounding terrible along the way…I managed to slowly get down the road, babying it the whole way, once I was rolling (out of 1st) seemed to be better and between shifts, then clutch felt closer to normal…not slip/ grab etc., but back down to any stop, straight road or turning, same thing. Made no difference if all tires were straight or if I was turning. All other gauge read out correct. with in 2 miles as planned I reached the empty parking lot and performed the break in procedure that came with lsd, essentially to drive in a figure 8 a bunch.  Did this, binding chattering, and shaking the car the whole way. I drove it back home seemed somewhat normal once I was in straight line and past 10 mph or so, and I know it will “bind” on corners and cause some tires squeal when turning especially from a stop, but when I begin to move it still causes what feels like the trans clutch to slip and jerk badly as well as shaking the entire car, and sounds terrible, that I didn’t expect. I used the fluid they supplied with LSD kit and did the breaking, planning to change fluid as they suggest after breaking, but wondering will it get smoother or less aggressive with use? maybe a 1.5 is just too aggressive for normal road driving?   I have a LSD that I put in my 71 cuda when I restored it, with amazing smooth , quite yet effective results. Different style LSD but that ones a joy to drive. maybe expecting too much from this R200?

    • Hello!  i just finished manual swaping my r34 skyline with a r33 rb20de box(RB71C)box  When the car is running it squeaks crazy loud and it was smoking from the gearbox area. The gearbox is fine it was tested. The clutch slave cylinder seems like it doesn't fully releases the clutch. I want to ask if this noise is from the throw out bearing or could it be the clutch assembly or disk att.xFliq87Gzw6kImKBVqDebXkj0fBqymk0JaYeP3_3SlM.mp4
