Hey all,

i started this idea a while ago but due to some unfortunate incidents the idea died so i thought i'd give it another go.

I'd like to set up regular cruises, probably fortnightly varying locations north south east west wherever. Just put out a meeting point and a destination and if people are interested show up if not, don't.

Just ideas at the moment let me know.

I think its a good idea.. there doesn't seem to be much in the way of semi-official meets or cruises up here. Its all "team blah" and everybody seems to go off and do their own thing. A lot of QLD'ers seem to look in here, but there isn't much action..

For this to happen it would require some routes to be planned and things like that. Seeing as I am new to QLD pretty much - don't ask me! :D

There is something about having a whole bunch of just skylines that makes an SAU cruise awesome.. in VIC we had at least one once a month and they were great.

You're right about the "if they show up they show up, if they don't, don't". It doesn't really matter, as long as you get good people even 3 cars can have some fun..

I would be up for a semi-official cruise/meet on a regular basis... I think swapping the locations on a regular basis is a great idea as it gives all of us a chance to participate. I can't see myself getting to the north or west meets with any regularity...

Some ideas I've had to keep the ball rolling include having some sort of "figure head" so to speak... For example, a well known forum participant from each location responsible for the organisation of that locations cruise... Names like NismoGirl, slip, 51jay, WHITE_R32, Nexus9, even you predator, spring to mind... I'm sure there are many others.

Another idea (might be dumb though) is to have some sort of baton or trophy to pass on at each cruise... EG: The SAUQLD flag (football, fluffy toy, or whatever) gets passed on to the person responsible for the organisation of the next cruise. This gives everyone some incentive to show up at the cruises and also a sense of purpose to each meet...

Possible locations are BWCP, Mt Tamborine, Yatala / Coomera BP, Mt Gravatt, Mt Nebo. Others will have plenty more...

More discussion is required and some genuine interest from others could make this a great thing!

BTW Pred... Most of the Team "blah" things are just a joke... (eg Team //GC)

Bring on the cruising!

yep, i'm in it whenever you're, BUT, i've tried to arrange it too and no luck, i also went to park rd Milton like some of the guys said on thursday night but nothing, so i cruised through roma st a few times but nothing, went around story bridge in reverse to get attention but no luck, so called some friends and went out and got drunk.(a little)

i always said it will be a good idea if people can arrange something and others can confirm at list 12hrs prior to the cruise so we know if there's any point waiting for them or just lets sms each other so we know what's happening. i left my number a few times so people can sms or call if they're coming or not but "Blah"

Anyways, like u said 3 cars is cool, the more the better.

lets set up a day or 2 per week, i'm sure many are busy on tha weekend and many are busy during the week, so how about have 1 for both, the weekenders and weekdayers :D

so no one misses on it, but in my opinion we should all get together and make a Freaking Nissan Skyline Day in Brisbane, i might call a radio station to see if they'll support us.

this way we might get out from the caves all those skylines that don't have a p.c. and have no idea of using one, and we might get all those anti social ones too and will make them think different. me myself, already tried to get more people, got their mobile no but they're always have an excuse, so i don't bother, although i have 4 Gts-t friends, i'll drag them with me to tha cruises too :( Remember guys, this was my idea of a Skyline Day in Brisbane :(

in tha mean time lets meet all the members of this site and cruise more often, I HOPE MANY PEOPLE READ THIS AND JOIN US !!!!

haha.. i'm not sure, my idea of a cruise is generally to get out of the city a bit and try and go at least a fair distance. But meeting in the city is a good starting point.. Doing laps or just hanging around, etc whatever is fine, but it can easily attract attention of the cops and whatever else. Well... i dunno.. personally i also find that a bit boring to be honest! Give me a mountain run or whatever anytime where u can press your limits and really use the car to its maximum.

we used to organise cruises and other stuff heaps, but most people dont seem to be able to turn up,

i organised a skirmish day which attracted a lot of interest but alas only 2 other forum members turned up...

since then i havent really had the time to make any suggestions about cruises or organise nething, and im not a well known figure on these forums, (nor well liked in some circles)

that said last year erin and i organised a massive cruise to bwcp, which was a good success, motox and i used to organise pretty regular trips to the test and tunes too. paul did the sau gt cruise which went off in a big way

something you have to remember is cruising through the week isnt possible for most people

mt running is becoming very mainstream now, the police know about it too, the cops are keepin a keen eye on tamborine roads, and recently i got chased outta murwilumbah by the local cops, and found myself landed with a bullshit 226 dollar fine and 3 points.

I am always in for a cruise, I was a regular at the Wed night test'n'tunes and QLD sprint days but have given that away during the warmer months. There were some good turnouts at the test'n'tunes and sprint days and the last gt run was huge. I am not real big for situations that attract unwanted attention (haven't lost any points for over three years and want to keep it that way) but a local meetup place(s) is a good idea. Once the temperature starts to fall I will be a regular at the track again so if there is a regular group that wants to meet for cruises out there would be good or just meet up out there.

I like the idea of passing on the batton/flag/whatever to the next organiser, it does give purpose and a sense of ownership for the next cruise.

I think having a big cruise more than once a month destroy's the novelty of the whole thing and it then becomes an everyday thing, easy to ignore, instead of an "Event" which gets everybody excited.

It also allows those who want to organise little cruises in the mean time to do so.

I do tend to agree with Predator that city cruising is a little boring, plus the lights and traffic breaks the group up too much. Plus riding a 2000 pound clutch for hours whilst cruising through the city is not really my idea of a good time.

Definitely more discussion and input is needed.

This is an idea me and a few others threw around ages ao...

We were going to have ONE meeting spot, central to all of us, where we could meet up and then head out from... Something that was always on, like a fuxture.

I think there are more poeple thses days and it would be a good idea to get it going...

I've also thought about having a meet up for all us Northern gc people as there are a few of us around, then everyone could attend...

Team //GC? It's just a forum joke...

Smoothline decided it was cool so he added to his sig after I decided there were heaps of Skyline owners on the northside of the Gold Coast...

Have a read here and here:

http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/sh...ead.php?t=33135

http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/sh...?t=24652&page=3

Eligibility is based on your location... If you live on the northside of the Gold Coast, put it in your sig!

Thats it. It's not some elite club that only c00L ppl can join... If we have a Team //GC cruise, it would be majorly tongue in cheek and any who wanna come would be more than welcome. It would more than likely have a //GC starting point though.

Hell, I've only met 3 other ppl who are //GC anyway ;) MJ, Nexus9 and MotoX...

Back on topic though... Any further ideas for cruise destinations, meeting points, regularity, batton/flag ideas?

Who want's a Drag Combat cruise? I thought NismoGirl was gunna get something happening?

Should we get the ball rolling with this //GC cruise idea???

    • For DBA, check out their guide table here. https://dba.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/Direct_Replacement-Guide-2021.2.pdf   Additionally they have some other guides and info on how to make sure you choose the right pad.
    • Sorry, just assumed that talk of coloured pads meant EBC red/green/yellow/shit stuff. I don't know the DBA pads, but it's a reasonable bet that they will be OK. DBA make good stuff generally. Those 4000 series rotors I linked to are very good. I may well replace the RDA rotors I have with those when required.
    • The average previous owner for these cars were basically S-chassis owners in the US. Teenagers or teenager-adjacent. I often tell people that neglect is easier to fix than something that was actively "repaired" by previous owners.
    • Update 3: Hi all It's been a while. Quite a lot of things happened in the meantime, among other things the car is (almost) back together and ready to be started again. Things that I fixed or changed: Full turbo removal, fitting back the OEM turbo oil hardlines. Had to do quite a bit of research and parts shopping to get every last piece that I need and make it work with the GT2860 turbos, but it does work and is not hard to do. Proves that the previous owner(s) just did not want to. While I was there I set the preload for the wastegates to 0,9bar to hopefully make it easier for the tuner to hit the 370hp I need for the legal inspections that will follow later on. Boost can always go up if necessary. Fitted a AN10 line from the catch can to the intake hose to make the catchcan and hopefully the cam covers a slight vacuum to have less restrictive oil returns from the head and not have mud build up as harshly in the lines and catch can. Removed the entire front interior just shy of the dashboard itself to clean up some of the absolutely horrendous wiring, (hopefully) fix the bumpy tacho and put in LED bulbs while I was there. Also put in bulbs where there was none before, like the airbag one. I also used that chance to remove the LED rpm gauge on the steering column, which was also wired in absolute horror show fashion. Moved the 4in1 Prosport gauge from sitting in front of the OEM oil pressure gauge to the center console vents, I used a 3D printed vent piece to hold that gauge there. The HKB steering wheel boss was likely on incorrectly as I sometimes noticed the indicator reset being uneven for left vs. right. In the meantime also installed an airbag delete resistor, as one should. Installed Cube Speed premium short shifter. Feels pretty nice, hope it'll work great too when I actually get to drive. Also put on a fancy Dragon Ball shift knob, cause why not. My buddy was kind enough to weld the rust hole in the back, it was basically rusted through in the lowermost corner of the passenger side trunk area where the wheel arch, trunk panel and rear quarter all meet. Obviously there is still a lot of crustiness in various areas but as long as it's not rusted out I'll just treat and isolate the corrosion and pretend it's not there. Also had to put down a new ground wire for the rear subframe as the original one was BARELY there. Probably a bit controversial depending on who you ask about this... but I ended up just covering the crack in the side of the engine block, the one above the oil feed, with JB Weld. I used a generous amount and roughed up the whole area with a Dremel before, so I hope this will hold the coolant where it should be for the foreseeable future. Did a cam cover gasket job as the half moons were a bit leaky, and there too one could see the people who worked on this car before me were absolute tools. The same half moons were probably used like 3 times without even cleaning the old RTV off. Dremeled out the inside of the flange where the turbine housing mates onto the exhaust manifolds so the diameter matches, as the OEM exhaust manifolds are even narrower than the turbine housings as we all know. Even if this doesn't do much, I had them out anyways, so can't harm. Ideally one would port-match both the turbo and the manifold to the gasket size but I really didn't feel up to disassembling the turbine housings. Wrapped turbo outlet dumps in heat wrap band. Will do the frontpipe again as well as now the oil leak which promted me to tear apart half the engine in the first place is hopefully fixed. Fitted an ATI super damper to get rid of the worn old harmonic balancer. Surely one of the easiest and most worth to do mods. But torquing that ARP bolt to spec was a bitch without being able to lock the flywheel. Did some minor adjustments in the ECU tables to change some things I didn't like, like the launch control that was ALWAYS active. Treated rusty spots and surface corrosion on places I could get to and on many spots under the car, not pretty or ideal but good enough for now. Removed the N1 rear spats and the carbon surrounding for the tailpipe to put them back on with new adhesive as the old one was lifting in many spots, not pretty. Took out the passenger rear lamp housing... what do you know. Amateur work screwed me again here as they were glued in hard and removing it took a lot of force, so I broke one of the housing bolts off. And when removing the adhesive from the chassis the paint came right off too. Thankfully all the damaged area won't be visible later, but whoever did the very limited bodywork on this car needs to have their limbs chopped off piece by piece.   Quite a list if I do say so myself, but a lot of time was spent just discovering new shit that is wrong with the car and finding a solution or parts to fix it. My last problem that I now have the headache of dealing with is that the exhaust studs on the turbo outlets are M10x1.25 threaded, but the previous owner already put on regular M10 nuts so the threads are... weird. I only found this out the hard way. So now I will just try if I can in any way fit the front pipe regardless, if not I'll have to redo the studs with the turbos installed. Lesson learned for the future: Redo ALL studs you put your hands on, especially if they are old and the previous owners were inept maniacs. Thanks for reading if you did, will update when the engine runs again. Hope nothing breaks or leaks and I can do a test drive.
