Anyone read yesterdays paper (3/8/02) ? or know what happeded? Apparently some guy in a Skyline was racing his cousins CRX, dodged a taxi, went airborne over a median strip and into a telegraph pole snapping it in half... I think all of this and the Ferrari incident will lead to a huge police crackdown on street racing etc...

Large Articile in today's telegraph about this - With Pics of the R31 (i think) wrapped around a concrete telegraph pole. Very bad Karma. The 19 year old was doing > 150kmh, racing a honda in Rockdale. The article goes on about Jap Performance cars and how they are Weapons. I think this wil be a very damaging for the reputation of Hi Po Imports/Jap Cars.

So everyone BE CAREFUL - Keep racing to the track !!

RIP another Skyline and (idiot) Skyline driver.

It's funny how the media manipulate people's minds. What about aussie V8's or European sports cars? They can be just as quick too. Come to think of it, can't remember the last time I read the daily telegraph or listened to channel 10, 9 or 7 cause their so biased.

Its never safe to street race and the risk will always be there but you dont go off when theres 50 cars around and try to race around other cars been a d!ck.

Risk your life but dont put others at risk, i think there is a time and a place for racing and that even goes for the street.

Loz shut the hell up. lol.

Ash.

I dont criticise illegal street racing or anything cause i am a major contributor to this but for god sakes!!! There is a time and place for everything isn't there. not on the highway where you have to dodge cars etc...

Anyways if they think thats a GTR they must be smoking the most POTENT chronic on the earth... I want some!!!

People, we all know that it is not a GTR in the photo - But it is a Skyline - Hence the repurcussions with/from the not so educated public that now think :

a) All skylines (what ever models) are hoon cars

B) All skyline owners are hoons and break the law often

Now for the intangible outcome of the story:

a) Insurance Premiums for Skyline owners will go up

B) Police will be pulling over every Skyline for what ever reason

Bottom line is : The article is not good for our hobby/pleasure/club/forum/image. (let alone for the poor 8astard that died)

So lets all be careful out there. There's a time and a place for everything.

    • Hope you aren't too sore after that one, might take a day or 2 to notice yet and I guess it is a loooooong drive home. On the bright side, tube frame front end is a thing at superlap, right?

    • The chart of front pressure to rear pressure (with one being on the x axis and the other being on the y axis) is not a straight line on a typical proportioning valve. At lower pressures there is a straight line with one slope, and at higher pressures that changes to a lower slope. That creates a bend in the line at that pressure, called the knee point. If you do not change the proportionng as the pressure gets higher, you will suffer excessive pressure (at one end of the car or the other, depending on which way you look at the proportioning action) and then get lockups at that end. The HFM BM57, from my memory of previous discussions, is based on the BM57 from a different car (to a Skyline), with a different requirement for the location of the knee point and the distribution of pressure front to rear, and so is not a good choice for an upgrade on a Skyline. Here's a couple of links to some old posts, one from here, one from elsewhere. A lot of it pertains to adjustable prop valves, but the idea is the same. There are plenty of discussions on here about this issue from al the many years of people wanting a cheap/accessible option. https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/grm/learn-me-brake-proportioning-valves/236880/page1/ https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/grm/learn-me-brake-proportioning-valves/236880/page1/
