Got these back from the powdercoaters today and I think they look sensational. 18 x 9.5 +22. Colour is Precious Gunmetal Kinetic. The colour and look is very similar to the finish on the standard R32 GTR rim, although having reviewed the post they look much lighter in the photos than they are in the flesh.

I'm getting them wrapped up in some 265/35 Khumo KU36s this arvo.

Can't wait to see them on the car(s).

Hope you like.

Very nice, who did you get to powder coat and what did it cost if you don't mind me asking.

I want you to open these photos with the 'Oh Yeah' song by Yello from Ferris Buller's Day off, in your head........Eat your heart out hellaflush crew. Trouble is they RUB. Yes, 18 x 9.5 +22 rubs. Front is too low, but.....the back rubs too. What do you know eh?

It's either up the height or.....wait for it.....roll the guards. Hope it ain't the latter, but I'm in love with these rims and they've got to fit somehow....

Damn what do you mean they rub whats the ride height

Was convinced after your last wheel thread these would have fit no probs

was thinking the same sizes ish for mine

would a bit more stretch make the difference ie smaller tyres ???

they do look fairly square sided if ya know what i mean the tyres that is

the rims look great :D

Thanks for the (mostly) positive comments guys. Re the powdercoater, they're in Hastings (look it up) so unless you're down that way it won't be worth it. Any good powdercoater will do. PM me if you want more details.

Noone, I actually measured the ride heights quite carefully over the weekend. Measuring equipment wasn't the best, nor was light or space for that matter, but what I've come up with is 332mm front (it varies a couple of mm from side to side) and 337mm rear - centre hub to guard. So, with handling in mind, far too low at the front. I will be getting an alignment done as the car is set up as per how it came in from Japan and I'll get the front height lifted to at least 340mm. Those that know will say 350-355 is ideal, so even higher again.

I'm not sure how much this will help with the rubbing though. Somewhat I'd guess. I'm actually surprised they rub as there doesn't seem to be any controversy over 9.5 +22 (unlike +12). Tyres are 265/35 Nittos and I wonder if they are a large fit such as an RE55 which has exacerbated things.

Once step at a time. I'll post up how I go.

Alignment done and ride heights now 340mm rear, 350mm front. Not quite as tough looking now but only rubs on large compressions. I rang 'the' guy who rolls guards in Melbrourne (well known on this forum - thank you Hamish) and guess what, he told me I should roll my guards as a last resort. Said as the GTR has aluminium guards they are hard to roll and often in doing this the panel gap from door to front qtr panel widens which needs to be corrected by a panel beater. Said if I was fussy I ought not to roll the guards. You also lose the front guard liner, so all the road craps goes up into the guard and will sneak into your engine bay. Probably promotes corrosion too I'd think.

So, I'd think a lil more neg camber in the front will be my next move. Out to -2 degrees.

You can do a light 'lip' and still retain the guard liner and won't mess with panel gaps. Get more camber anyway. It's worth it.

Your susp must be quite soft.

    • I might be way off the mark here.. there must be a T junction under the manifold. That takes manifold pressure through a check valve prior to the T, one side splits out to this bleed off orifice, the other straight to the wastegate actuators.
    • Carrying out some engine due diligence before my first drive in a 260RS that has been in storage for 10+ years, and found two lines that are susposed to be plumbed into the boost control solenoid. One of the lines (the wastegate boost supply line) to actuate the gates, had a bolt in one end blocking it. The other line (main boost signal line) from the very rear of the intake manifold (RB26DETT) and runs up to the boost controller had this pill in the end of it as seen in photos. Other than the obvious (T28 Ceramic turbos might well be cooked)  Can anyone shed any light on if there is any validity at all with this mod, bleeding a constant fixed rate of manifold boost pressure off through this 3mm hole?  Is it deliberate?  Was this a 90s Jap mod done to RB26's? Or has someone just fitted this without any idea of what happens to ceramic T28s if they are not gate controlled?
    • This looks great! Awesome to have the 5 speed with an LSD in this. The Recaro's look like SR2's or SR3's. It's a shame they've been retrimmed as they would have looked sweet in their original colours. I think I'd want my agent to be a little more up front and informative too. I've never imported but I reckon it would make me a little nervous, so the more info the better.
    • Thanks for doing that Duncan! Makes you a good person in my books. We don't get kangaroos or wombats here. But we have bats and it's similar. AFAIK it's often the mums with a baby attached that get hit because they drop lower when starting from a tree. If you hit an animal, check on it. https://www.ifaw.org/au/resources/wildlife-rescue-app An app to get the closest wildlife rescue contact.
