haha settle down Philby! they only bump em up to around 85volts

That is what they continously run at once they are operating. Pretty sure on initial ignition it bumps up to around 18-24kV.

is there going to be just a glass lens option available? i dont want to wreck the party but people who have a car worth 8-15k i dont think will be particularly willing to spend 2000-3000 on headlights. i know the HID option will look great and i dont want to criticise you efforts but i think a simple 'glass lense replacement' option using the remainder of the facotry headlight would probably suit the budget of more people on here. maybe add it as an option if it hasnt already been?

i think this is a great idea btw and im interested in the price for a glass lense as i will need a set for my gtr.

Yes the glass lens replacement will most likely be an option. Also the headlights will be under $2000. Honestly I realise it aint for every one, but for certain people that can afford it and want something different it's a great option and i'm really looking forward to it. The amount of money my car (and a lot of others) are worth once you add up every modification, another $2000 really aint the end of the world for something that is a worlds first and will update the look of the car.

oh please dont mention those words 'adding up cost' thats just too scary to think about...

Bring on the new headlights...

Hahahaha so true. To this day I regret keeping an excel spreadsheet of all the costs the car owes me.

I sent Spinto an email to see if there has been any progress; stay tuned.

sounds good, look forward to the final result

UPDATE

Spinto is receiving the projectors in the following week so will start creating the carbon fibre bezels to hold the projector in place. They also want to start making the tooling in the following week for the glass lenses.

They are also experimenting with making the carbon fibre frames for the lenses to try and make it an easy conversion.

I don't think this question has been asked. Will the lenses they make for the carbon fibre set up fit our existing lights or will they only fit their own design. I'm sure there'll be plenty of people after lenses only. If they're not the same as our original lenses can they make a glass replacement. Either way, can we get a price on replacement lenses for the factory light assembly.

I think you have confused yourself a little bit.

Our headlights and these new headlights are the same light assembly.

Ie. You send them your headlights, they pull off the plastic lenses, remove the low beam reflectors, remove the parkers and remove the black surrounds that hold/cover everything on the inside.

Now you are left with the plastic housing that mounts onto your car and the factory high beam reflector mounted inside. Into this the projector is mounted, the new LED parkers are mounted, the new carbon fibre surrounds are mounted and then the glass is fixed onto it sealing it together.

Hope that clears it up a bit.

There is no pricing at the moment, but judging by the price of the Supra glass lenses it would be a safe bet to say the glass lenses would be between $500-$1000, but that is purely my guess.

  • 3 weeks later...

I'll give the boys an e-mail later on tonight. I don't like to bother them to often as I know it is a long process and there is a lot to be done.

    • Ok so after much research and talking with knowledgeable people I've got my turbo conversion done and it's all running great other than 1 small issue.  Car has remained auto with the na auto and tcm, I've used a stagea ecu with. NIstune board and everything is great other than my gear selection on the dash. It illuminates park, reverse, neutral, 3rd and 2nd. But nothing drive or what gear your in when you pop it into tiptronic.  I'm sure there is may e 1 wire in the ecu plug I need to move to rectify this. Dose anyone here have any ideas?   Cheers guys
    • Sorry I haven't been following all the detail, so you may have tried this. Does it idle with the tiniest bit of throttle you can add? You've mentioned the IACV, does it have an AAC valve and have you adjusted it at all (ie, screw the idle adjust screw all the way in, then back it out a couple of turns until idle is stable)?
    • My bad, I unplugged the one underlined in red instead of yellow before. With the car started, after unplugging the IACV (the one underlined in yellow), it idled at around 400/500 for 3 seconds before stalling. Attempting to start the car without the IACV will not start the car.   It does stutter and sputter for around 5 seconds before dying. However, immediately after starting it, you can already hear some slight sputters from the exhaust.   It won't start with the AFM unplugged. If it is when the car has already started, it stalls in a few seconds.   Yesterday, I did take some logs using Nistune of 3 scenarios. Car idling till it stalls Car idling and unplugging the IACV Car idling and removing the AFM I also have some previous logs of when the Car is idling till it stalls and when driving and it cuts. I am not really knowledgeable enough to understand what to look for. After every test, car idles rougher and rougher, until I have to stop. It will be fine the day after.
    • There is no difference between a 17x8 and an 18x8. The total diameter of the tyre needs to remain +/- the same (so you don't mess up the gearing, speedo reading, and clearance when turning front wheels..... so you just need to use a lower profile tyre on th 18 than you do on the 17. /rocket surgery.
    • I thought the same to start with. But then I thought it was one of those LCAs where the end of the ARB goes through a bushing in the LCA itself, instead of having an end link.
