I reckon there is still plenty of healthy discussion on SAU as a whole, for instance there are more postings each day on SAU than on Performance Forums....and we are meant to be a one model forum (let alone one make!)

We just need to keep events alive...same problem we have with the club itself....then everyone pops by here to talk about it.

Its a damn shame most of the snsw ppl dont drop by any more, but its not like anyone there has ever been discouraged from coming along to sau events

Like Carlo said, get along to the dinner / track day / drag combat / show n shine - theres plenty coming up in the next 4 weeks.

sau as a forums is pretty much one of the best forums out there without doubt.. we are lucky enough to not have too many shot 4's style of ppl here so its still good..

problem u have with events.. u have alot of history.. and bad blood.. between alot of ppl..

alot of us are connected by friendships these days.. not by forums no more..

It was a case of them wanting to be able to post whatever they wanted and us laying down some basic rules about what was allowed to be posted.

They didn't like it and left.

SAU got more people signing up in spite of teamwestside departing.

As far as the turnout to forum based events I don't think there were that many last year anyway (well not as many as 2002).

We split the states as there were getting to be too many threads when they were all combined. I reckon if we combined them again it would be a backwards step.as there are even more members on here now.

I notice a few events both regular and one offs coming up and I'm going to get involved where I can. I'm off the ah hem now and feeling happy and sociable. I'm keen and ready to get FAT!

That said, Sydney is an agro place (I've spent 5 years of the last 9 travelling around it so I should know) and all we can do is set the example. Nike stole my motto, Just do it.

See you all around.

PS Franks is there another yellow GTT in your area? Was filthy dirty when I saw it.

dude, this was never meant to be a snsw vs sau related thread.

too many threads?

ok, well how about more car related sections then? atleast then i can narrow my search on boost controller issues or ecu tuning issues to a section rather than a state?

imagine two states talking about the very same boost controller issue? total waste of bandwidth and knowledge thrown away if someone doesnt happen to see it in a section they seldomly browse.

abo dude, yeah there is another one in my area.

Hi guys.I'm not a finacial member, but I thought I'd stick my 2c worth in.I've only been browsing the forums "full timeish" for the last 4 months odd,but have stuck head in from time to time for last year or so.

I'd like to say that this would have to be one of the best forums I've come across - not that I'm a forum junkie though. Most forums are packed full of 17 or 18yo that have R34 GTR's or mates that run 8sec quarters,or generally think they know everything possible about any given subject, and are willing to get into an argument over things they "know" when in fact they don't have a clue what they're on about. (and no offence ment to the 18yo's here!) I don't claim to know the world either, because I know that I don't.Also I don't take what I hear "on the grape vine" ,or read in magizines as gosphell. I do know a few things,as I have been tinkering myself for a few years, and have picked up a few things. Anyway, what I'm trying to say is this forum seems to be,for the most part, full of true enthuisests, who have a passion for their cars, and enjoy sharing knowledge/helping others and having a mature discussion about Skyline's and related topics, and having a bit of fun along the way. I don't post much on here,as there are plenty of people with a lot more knowledge/experiance than I,to reply to topics, but I felt like having a go at this one. I haven't been to any meets, etc,as I'm about 5 hours north of Sydney, which makes it hard. That's why I haven't actually joined the club,as It's too far to get to any events for me. Having said that,I would like to try to get to some cruises this year,as I have never been on a decent one,let alone one populated with Skylines.

(even though my old GTS-X would be the roughest Skyline there probably! haha)

Anyway,in closing,I would like to say sorry for the long post. Some guys mightn't think I'm not in the "club scene" enough to put in 2c worth, but this is just my perspective.Hope it doesn't afend anyone!

BTW franks, I'm with you 100%, if its not a "where can i get a boost controller" sort of question it should be in general....maybe the state admins can start looking at these threads more

Just answering Jimbo2000's question.

Yeah it's wrong isn't it Franks. For example, boost controller threads should be in Forced Induction Performance. If everyone just posted in the right section it would be helpful, but they don't and never will.

I move plenty of threads all the time and most people don't mind (as long as you pm them) but it would make life easier if they just read the name of each section. The titles are all self explanatory and it's not hard to get the gist of each one.

You're as entitled as anyone else (well except for a couple of prize dickheads  ) to have a say. :O

Another thing folks is just remember/be aware that the Club, "Skylines Australia NSW Inc", is a separate entity to the forums. The Club uses the forums as a contact point and way to get information out to the members (and vice versa :O ).

Hey Guys...

Just a suggestion, being new to the skyline scene and all...

Seems that for most of the members in NSW (im generalising here) the drag scene and street stuff appeals to the most people (yea yea i know - lowest common denominator, etc !! :P )

So - maybe it could be worth it to arrange a drag day for SAU NSW people at EC ?? Dedicated drags, little bbq, launch techniques for autos/manuals, psi setup for tyres, etc etc...

Attraction would be you would get a lot of people who always wanted to take their car on the 1/4 mile, but were always too embarassed or noob to do it on the regular EC nights...good hook to get the members and regular browsers together...

Im sure you would get some good numbers ....

Anyway, my 2c...

an excellent idea!

i Think buster was looking into exactyly that :P

red & Franks

apologies. Didn't mean to make it cause a rift

That (drags) was something we were looking into when at the old drag strip but the cost to hire it all was -huge- because we'd have to hire the entire track (coz the drag strip uses the main straight of the track).

Now that we have a new drag strip (WSID) i'm sure this fee would be less (or maybe similar but much better quality facilities) and no doubt in the near future WSID would allow us to hire the facility. I don't think it would be in the next week or month due to ongoing maintanence and construction but im sure by say June/July they would allow us hire it.

The good thing is its a "Non-profit organisation" that is in control of the entire facility so hopefully hiring costs are "decent".

Personally i'd love to do a morning/afternoon or day (thats heaps of runs... say hello to a new clutch) at the drag strip just to get confidence up, improve my technique and post some decent times rather than having 2,000 people + commentators watching and commenting on my every move

    • Update 3: Hi all It's been a while. Quite a lot of things happened in the meantime, among other things the car is (almost) back together and ready to be started again. Things that I fixed or changed: Full turbo removal, fitting back the OEM turbo oil hardlines. Had to do quite a bit of research and parts shopping to get every last piece that I need and make it work with the GT2860 turbos, but it does work and is not hard to do. Proves that the previous owner(s) just did not want to. While I was there I set the preload for the wastegates to 0,9bar to hopefully make it easier for the tuner to hit the 370hp I need for the legal inspections that will follow later on. Boost can always go up if necessary. Fitted a AN10 line from the catch can to the intake hose to make the catchcan and hopefully the cam covers a slight vacuum to have less restrictive oil returns from the head and not have mud build up as harshly in the lines and catch can. Removed the entire front interior just shy of the dashboard itself to clean up some of the absolutely horrendous wiring, (hopefully) fix the bumpy tacho and put in LED bulbs while I was there. Also put in bulbs where there was none before, like the airbag one. I also used that chance to remove the LED rpm gauge on the steering column, which was also wired in absolute horror show fashion. Moved the 4in1 Prosport gauge from sitting in front of the OEM oil pressure gauge to the center console vents, I used a 3D printed vent piece to hold that gauge there. The HKB steering wheel boss was likely on incorrectly as I sometimes noticed the indicator reset being uneven for left vs. right. In the meantime also installed an airbag delete resistor, as one should. Installed Cube Speed premium short shifter. Feels pretty nice, hope it'll work great too when I actually get to drive. Also put on a fancy Dragon Ball shift knob, cause why not. My buddy was kind enough to weld the rust hole in the back, it was basically rusted through in the lowermost corner of the passenger side trunk area where the wheel arch, trunk panel and rear quarter all meet. Obviously there is still a lot of crustiness in various areas but as long as it's not rusted out I'll just treat and isolate the corrosion and pretend it's not there. Also had to put down a new ground wire for the rear subframe as the original one was BARELY there. Probably a bit controversial depending on who you ask about this... but I ended up just covering the crack in the side of the engine block, the one above the oil feed, with JB Weld. I used a generous amount and roughed up the whole area with a Dremel before, so I hope this will hold the coolant where it should be for the foreseeable future. Did a cam cover gasket job as the half moons were a bit leaky, and there too one could see the people who worked on this car before me were absolute tools. The same half moons were probably used like 3 times without even cleaning the old RTV off. Dremeled out the inside of the flange where the turbine housing mates onto the exhaust manifolds so the diameter matches, as the OEM exhaust manifolds are even narrower than the turbine housings as we all know. Even if this doesn't do much, I had them out anyways, so can't harm. Ideally one would port-match both the turbo and the manifold to the gasket size but I really didn't feel up to disassembling the turbine housings. Wrapped turbo outlet dumps in heat wrap band. Will do the frontpipe again as well as now the oil leak which promted me to tear apart half the engine in the first place is hopefully fixed. Fitted an ATI super damper to get rid of the worn old harmonic balancer. Surely one of the easiest and most worth to do mods. But torquing that ARP bolt to spec was a bitch without being able to lock the flywheel. Did some minor adjustments in the ECU tables to change some things I didn't like, like the launch control that was ALWAYS active. Treated rusty spots and surface corrosion on places I could get to and on many spots under the car, not pretty or ideal but good enough for now. Removed the N1 rear spats and the carbon surrounding for the tailpipe to put them back on with new adhesive as the old one was lifting in many spots, not pretty. Took out the passenger rear lamp housing... what do you know. Amateur work screwed me again here as they were glued in hard and removing it took a lot of force, so I broke one of the housing bolts off. And when removing the adhesive from the chassis the paint came right off too. Thankfully all the damaged area won't be visible later, but whoever did the very limited bodywork on this car needs to have their limbs chopped off piece by piece.   Quite a list if I do say so myself, but a lot of time was spent just discovering new shit that is wrong with the car and finding a solution or parts to fix it. My last problem that I now have the headache of dealing with is that the exhaust studs on the turbo outlets are M10x1.25 threaded, but the previous owner already put on regular M10 nuts so the threads are... weird. I only found this out the hard way. So now I will just try if I can in any way fit the front pipe regardless, if not I'll have to redo the studs with the turbos installed. Lesson learned for the future: Redo ALL studs you put your hands on, especially if they are old and the previous owners were inept maniacs. Thanks for reading if you did, will update when the engine runs again. Hope nothing breaks or leaks and I can do a test drive.
    • No those pads are DBA too  but they have colors too. I look at the and imo the green "street" are the best.
    • I’m not sure what happened I told them about sonic tunes free OTS tune and the next the I know .. I was booted..   To funny
    • Yea - I mean I've seen my fuel pump which is decades old and uh, while I'm not saying this with real knowledge... but I sure get the ick at using anything in the fuel system that produced the state of that pump. Many years ago I went through multiple pumps (and strainers) before I dropped the tank to clean it out with extreme violence. I'm talking the car would do maybe 50km before coming to a halt, which resulted in me cleaning out the filter with some brake cleaner and going on my way. None of my stuff ever looked like what came out of your fuel tank. I don't think I'd be happy with it unless every single component was replaced (or at least checked/cleaned/confirmed to be clean here).
    • I'm not going to recommend an EBC pad. I don't like them. Just about anything else would suit me better. I've been using Intima pads for a while now.
