Hey guys,

Just wanted to give a recommendation for a paintless dent repair guy - Matt(mattymagoo22) - who came out and did an awesome job on my V35. I had a 2 door dings + 1 medium + 1 large area, all gone. He actually did it a few months back, and I'm happy to say that I haven't been able to pick any of the repaired spots since. So top work Matt! He does this for a living, but came out on a Saturday arvo to do mine.

It's pretty amazing watching him work, I could tell he takes pride in his work and took considerable care making sure the job was done properly. He told me that since one of the dents was on a crease in the door, he wouldn't be able to fix it 100%, but I swear I try and find where the damage was, but can't see it at all(and I am picky). Very reasonable cost too. If you have some dents that you've been putting off getting fixed cause you are worried about the cost, don't even hesitate.

Hey mate, I won't put it in the thread as every job is different. I'm happy as it would have cost me a heap more through smash repairs. PM him for your job, he's a good bloke.

G'day people. I have been flat out and haven't had the chance to get online in a while. At the moment i'm tied up fixing hail damaged cars for my employer. The other employee, in the company, is going on holidays for the whole of October, so this will make finding time to repair any dents you have very difficult for the next month at least. I really don't want to be doing too much work on the weekends as 70+ hours repairing dents a week gets me pretty buggered.

Feel free to PM me with details of the vehicle, age, colour, location and size of dent(s). If you can send a picture as well then that is very helpful.

I must stress that not all dents are repairable, however, I will do my best to explain why it isn't or why it won't be 100% and what the end result will look like.

People often ask me how much to fix their dents, not many people ask about the quality of the repairs I do. There are many hacks out there that will try to repair your dents for prices starting at $30, often we get calls after people like them have attempted repairs and failed and they want us to fix it. Most of the time we can't undo what they have already done. So if you want it done right, I will get it done properly the first time. Older cars can be difficult as the paint gets brittle as the car ages.

As SKIZO mentioned every dent is different, my prices start from $50 per panel and that is a special price for SAU members.

Without going into too much detail I work on BMW, Porsche, Mercedes, Jaguar, Aston Martin, Volvo, Peugeot, VW, Subaru, Toyota, Honda and many more.

A big thank you to SKIZO I'm really glad you are happy with the repairs I did.

If I fix dents for someone with a decent camera i'll try to get some pics up, it doesn't really do justice to my work though, video is the best way to show my work but it is very time consuming and takes 2 people, too much hassle.

Cheers Matt.

I have PM'd mattymagoo regarding fixing a dent on my car and the guy is no BS straight up. Top bloke that's extremely honest and seems to have the heart in the job.

I haven't actually gone ahead with his quote yet because money has been tight but just wanted to add the guy is really nice, and seems to have the heart in the job and is obsessed with quality of repairs. He even managed to tell me how my dent will look after he finished with it from just a couple of close up shots via PM.

I will get that dent on the roof fixed one day matt! Lol...just money is tight atm.

Hey Matt,

I've been told aluminium panels are harder to pull dents out. Is that true?

Absolutely. It takes a long time just to learn how to fix dents in steel. Aluminium is another kettle of fish all together. There are a lot of techs that won't attempt aluminium as it usually takes twice the time or more than that of a dent in steel, and the chance for making an irreversible mistake is much more likely as well. Aluminium will work harden a lot faster than steel so really sharp dents often aren't repairable, as the finish of the paint will be compromised or the aluminium simply won't move, so unless that panel is being painted which is called PTP (push-to-paint) the repair will have pinpricks and the area of the dent may also crack( cracked paint will also occur in sharp or tight areas in steel too).

Hope that answers your question, cheers Matt.

Thanks for that Matt, that's a great explanation. I had aluminium panels repaired (or should I say, tried to) years ago and the guy said no problems. When he tried to do them, it ended up worse than what it was. Obviously I was really pissed.

I have another car that needs a few dents pulled out, not aluminium thank god. can you pm me when you have time to come out? I'm in Hornsby area, or I can come to you.

thanks

Eugene

Thats a shame, some guys have no idea that the panel is even aluminium and they ruin the job in the first couple of pushes.

I did an aluminium bonnet on a BMW X5 today which was black in colour( to make the job even more difficult) you really need to take it slow when working with it. I'll contact you soon, if I don't just send me a reminder and we'll try to organise a time and i'll see what can be done.

Can I ask what it is that you were trying to have repaired when it all went so horribly wrong?

Cheers Matt.

gday matt,

tom here again with the s13 silvia, if you end up coming out to hornsby for other jobs like the above mayb we can arrange a mass dent removal/inspection day haha. turns out im not going to be away all weekend so will be free on sun.

Sorry mate got a wedding on sunday. I will try to get there to have a look this week but don't hold me to that, if it was a quick job I'd do it on the spot, but that job would take 2-3 hours at least, if its doable, so if I do it at your place you can still occupy yourself while I work otherwise i'd get you to bring it to me.

All jobs I do for people on this forum will have to be done after work hours, I work for somebody and can't take time out of the hours he employs me to earn money for myself, so please try to bear with me as I work long hours and have a family that I need to spend time with also.

Cheers Matt.

I've tried to organise a Ding Day with JDMST but the site owner has ignored my email. I was proposing a day on a weekend. There was a huge turnout from last event and i'm sure there will be the same amount of interest.

If you're keen to do this on a spare weekend (either day) Matt, we can try and get something organised.

Yeah Slim tried to get a day happening a while ago but the place we were going to do it fell through. I asked the other guy I work with last time and he said he'd be keen to work as well. All we need is a shaded area with not too much glare from surrounding objects and cars to work on. So yeah if you organise it would be happy to attend and show you guys what we can do.

Cheers Matt.

    • Welcome to SAU, what are you looking at buying?
    • I checked the injectors again (1 and 2, since they’re easiest to access) to make sure they weren’t clogged. Even though the entire fuel system had been cleaned, I wanted to be certain. Everything looked clean, so I reinstalled and connected everything. When I started the car to confirm everything was okay, it immediately revved up high, so I shut it off straight away. I checked to see if I’d missed a vacuum hose or something, but everything was connected. On the second attempt, the car ran without the high idle, but I noticed a distinct “compressed air” sound coming from the engine bay. Tracing the sound, I pushed injector #6 forward slightly and the noise stopped — it turned out it wasn’t seated properly, despite the fuel rail being bolted down. While holding it in place, the car idled steadily without stalling and ran for over 5 minutes. At this point, I pulled all six injectors out just in case I hadn’t seated them correctly or dirt had gotten onto the O-rings. Unfortunately, I discovered that I had damaged 3 out of 6 injectors (the OEM 270cc ones) during installation. So yes, this was my fault. Since only the pintle caps were damaged, I’ve ordered a Fuel Injector Service Kit from NZEFI to refurbish them. In the meantime, I reinstalled my new injectors – the car now idles fine for over 15 minutes without stalling. I have not attempted to drive it so far. It’s not perfect yet, as it hesitates when the throttle is pressed, but it’s a big improvement. Unplugging the IACV with the new injectors idles at around 800rpm, even with the IACV screw tightened fully. But this is probably due to tune.
    • I wanted to try and preserve the front bumper as long as possible, they're not cheap and are made to order in Japan. Taking inspiration from my previous K11 Micra build where I made an undertray for the Impul bumper, I did the same for this BN Sports bumper but a little slimmed down.  This time round I only made a 'skid plate' (if that's the correct wording/term) for just the bumper surface area, the Micra version covered the gap like an undertray. Starting off with a sheet of mild steel approx. 0.9mm thick 4ft x 2ft in size. I traced around the bumper, cut it out and cleaned the edges. Luckily I was able to get two halves from one piece of metal In the video I installed it as is, but I've since then I've removed it to spray and add a rubber edging trim. The rubber trim is suitable for 1-2mm and it's a really nice tight fit. The bolts had to be loosened due to the plates being too tight against the bumper, the trim wouldn't push on I used some stainless M6 flat headed bolts for a flusher finish (rather than hex heads poking down), I believe this style fastener is used for furniture too incase you struggle to source some. The corner's are a little wider, but this may be an advantage incase I get close to bumping it  The front grill got some attention, finally getting round to repairing it. Upon removal one fixing pulled itself out of the plastic frame, one side is M8 that fixes inside of the frame, where as the other side is M5. Not knowing I could get replacements, I cut down an M8 bolt, threaded it inside the frame along with a decent amount of JB Weld.  The mesh was replaced to match the bumper. One hole on the bonnet/hood had to be drilled out to 8mm to accommodate the new stud, once the glue had set it could be refitted. I think the reason the grill was double meshed was to hide the horn/bonnet latch (which makes sense) but I much prefer it matching the bumper Bumper refitted and it's looking much better IMO The Youtube video can be seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bVZP35io9MA
