Hey everyone just bought a r33 at the auctions :D it went for verycheap soni couldn't resist

R33 gtr

1998

103xxx ks

No accident history :revs: and bought from a dealer

So these are my main things

Firstly is the motor is ticking alot. The motor revs out fine no missing etc, The dealer said he doesn't no when it was services last and recons the oil

Is too thin for the motor.. It happined to me before so that didn't worry me . I just serviced it today new

Plugs new oil filter (10-40w royal purple) and it's still ticking not so much as before but still there, havnt taken it

For a drive yet just turned it in for 10 or so mins.

Secondly is the bovs. I can't here the schoooosh that it's ment to make but at huger revs I can hear dose. Pulled the front bar off intercooler etc cleaned all the piping and assembled back together and still doing it. What's causing the dose???

Thirdly vibration: I've uploaded a video I hope this help but between say 1200rpm and 1800rpm there is a strong vibration

That travels into the cabin. But after 2k it's fine all the way through I was think engine mount or somthing?

And lastly suspension knock , there is a slight knock some where in the front right if the car, only happind when driving straight and

Turning right, bushing?

If anyone can help but troubled

Cheers everyone :P

you are used to the stock GTsT whipper snipper BOV?

GTR sounds nothing like it,

you like the flutter or you want to stop it?

there is a sound deadener/padding inside the airbox, check this is still there,

It's got hks pods

I don't want the flutter just a clean shhhhhh right now it how DOOO DoOo doo

I herd another gtr sound like that too I thought they sound like the gtst

is the sound coming from inside the car or from the engine bay?

can you see the engine shaking violently?

have you checked the engine and gearbox mounts,

does it do it with the clutch in?

Ticking could be a noisy lifter; does it sound like a diesel engine at idle but you can't hear it when you rev it?

GTR bov's sound nothing like GTST bov's, but what you're hearing isn't dose.

Checking the mounts this week still does it clutch in or out

And yes sounds like a diesel motor when idle ing can sorta hear it when reved up.

My main concern is the vibration.

It's more inside vibration then out side and only between 1200-1800 rpm it's werid

TBH with the problems you are describing, i would take it straight to a local mechanic who is familiar with GTR's. The sounds you are describing could be anything from injectors to bearing knock, if so every km you drive it is doing more damage.

Sounds like something inside the cabin (door/dash panel, etc.) is hitting its natural frequency which will cause it to resonant. This is usually a result of mechanical looseness. Go over all your interior trims and make sure the bolts/pins are secured properly.

^^

Yeah I agree, sounds more like something in the interior which is virating at that particular rpm. Get someone to move around the inside of the car while you hold it there, and try to isolate exactly where it's coming from.

Everything feels in place and firm ;)

Definatly something from the motor side replacing all mounts tomorrow and will see how it goes

So the bovs and sussy knock is sorted

Anyone have advice for the ticking?

Cheers

Took the words right out of my mouth.

Rather than speculating, and considering you don't know the cars history, get it to a reputable GTR workshop and have them complete a major service and comprehensive checkover.

the ticking will be the injectors or the fact it has solid lifters

you can shove all the chemicals you want in it but your are wasting your time

GTRs naturally have that sound and its just how it is

    • I've looked up the parts number (41011AL501). It's around $700 OEM. Usually our Infiniti G35 here in Canada have interchangeable parts with my Stagea but the parts number are not the same. I have looked around and it seems the JDM 2005 V35 Skyline (which is the same as our G35) has the same caliper but I cannot confirm. And I can't find a repair kit. The inner brake pads drags on the rotor, seems to be rusty piston. Thanks for the info by the way
    • This coupled with 6-9 speed autos with ridiculously short gearing is why these modern shitbox cars always seem so fast off the line. If it wasn't for those things, Raptors would not seem fast. The problem we have is there is a driveability gap between a more gentle take off and a wheelspinning sideways launch. The difference between ankle flex required to achieve one and ankle flex required to achieve the other is about 0.5°.
    • Yeah I think I'm also with the opposite here. It's 'hard to keep up with traffic' because in the real world I'm accelerating with 15% throttle and they are pinning it. It feels like I'm being an overt dickhead at anything above 15% throttle, so the car sounds like I'm being an overt dickhead to keep up with/get ahead of traffic when I'm really just trying to drive with traffic. There would be no issue 'keeping up with traffic' if we used the same level of throttle input/aggression to drive around. People really do just drive around with their foot nearly pinned in econoboxes.
    • To be fair it's the other way around. 300kw is boring in a modern Golf or BMW. They are so competent / well-engineered / devoid of emotion that you have to go stupid fast to feel anything. Whereas the <300kw RB still makes all the right noises and it feels good to drive. Can pull off at the lights with the turbo whooshing and the blow-off pssshing and feel like the coolest kid on the block. Just don't look to the side where you'll see the bored housewifes in their shitbox Yaris/Corolla/Camry that kept up because you didn't go fast at all
    • 300kW is so boring in a Skyline, you'll get spanked by someone's mum's Golf with Alibaba pipes, and an email tune.
