Americans, turbo Skylines and '91 pump gas'

Recommended Posts

Like many of you guys, SAU is a once a day, once evey 48 hours fetish.

So I visit the other Skylines sites every so often, GTR.UK, SNSW, SDU etc.

Now this is what I find astonishing. It's not exactly a technical question.

The Americans must have some experience with this as they've been running turbo cars to varying degrees of success since the 70s/80s like the Buick Grand National.

So I found it astonishing that people who know what they are talking about developing RB26 motors to do "400-500 hp at the wheels on 91 PUMP GAS".

Of course anyone in Australia would find that laughable. How is that possible?

I would not even dream of running a stock RB26 on the 91 octane dishwater even in an emergency situation...

oh. btw. these guys are from RBmotoring, Motorex, Nismo American so it's not some hick from Arkansas.

T.

In US, they use PON (Pump Octane Number) = MON (Motor Octane Number) + RON (Reasearch Octane Number) / 2

103 by VP Racing Fuels has a RON rating of 107 and MON rating of 99.

Both Research Octane Test and Motor Octane Test are performed on the same engine but under different conditions, hence you get different numbers as results.
