I'm not sure on the exact details as in 2000 onwards the models start to change so much.

See that one is a V Spec I 2000 model and has the grey seats.

It would have been a certain month in 2000 when they did the change over.

True, though I'm not sure it's a VSpec1? It does have the front diffuser but I've read that the dash (speedo) is that of a Non-VSpec GTR?

e.g the revs 0-3,000rpm are still even spaced. I've read that the VSpec rpm from 0-3,000 is closer together.

So much confusion over GTRs :D

I am sure you all want to know what the differences are... :D as I have posted.

The V-Spec II N1 / V-Spec II Nur / M-Spec Nur will have the best value for money.

Base models / V-Spec / V-Spec II / M-Spec's are not worth the extra as there is nothing to separate it from being anything special

My understanding is that in 2000 (approx Aug-Oct) Nissan released an update for the R34 GTR:

-V-Spec became V-Spec 2 and got carbon bonnet, updated interior, aluminum pedals, larger rear rotors, clear front and side indicators etc

-Non V-Spec was still non V-Spec yet got the updated black cloth interior, aluminum pedals, slightly larger rear rotors, clear front and side indicators etc but no carbon bonnet, no front or rear diffusers, slightly softer suspension (I think?) and an MFD that didn't include intake and exhaust temps.

Therefore it is possible to get a 2000 model GTR V-Spec (from Jan to Aug-Oct) or GTR V-Spec 2 (Aug-Oct onward)

Also I believe that the front V-Spec diffuser was a factory option for non V-Spec GTR's.

EVOIV is also right regarding the spacing 0-3,000rpm on the tacho. This makes me think that the GTR in question is not a genuine v-spec or has had a dash swap (I cant see if it has the rear diffuser, intake and exhaust temps on the MFD). Ultimately the best way to check a GTR is buy using Nissan FAST and running the VIN. There are too many people out there fiddling GTR's and claiming things they shouldn't.

Thanks for the info. So where does one get access to this "Nissan FAST" to verify the VIN of the GTR?

This has all been covered many times, guys...

Thanks to you Kristian, I have made the corrections in my post.

Since you own a V-Spec II N1, you will defiantly know the differences!

:)

Use this as a guide and it will give the new comers some idea of it all.

Hey mate. You may have to do another correction. I have a V Spec N1 R34 , Kristian has the V Spec II R34. V Spec don't have a carbon bonnet and also not sure about the V SpecII but mine doesn't get the clear coat over the paint.

If anybody wants a great reference book get NISSAN GT-R. Supercar , born to race by dennis Gorodji.

Sorry to correct your correction, my N1 brethren, but I suspect you'll find your bonnet was switched for a stock one - the V Spec N1s came with a clear coated CF bonnet without the NACA duct that the V Spec IIs got...a very rare bonnet indeed...

Hahah so true. I hear the N1's are going up in value, according to Kristian :D

Like any investment, you never truly know how good it is till the time comes to sell it :)

I was supposed to sell it when the value of the car equalled what we owed on the house, but that mark passed a good six months ago...lucky I control the finances lol

Thanks for correcting my correction, ha. Still not sure about the bonnet. It's definitely the bonnet that was on it when it had it's little accident. You can see where they spray painter cut it in with the guard, which by the way needs to be repainted. The guard has been repainted and is covered in tiny bubbles. probably some silicone or other impurity in the spray booth.

The best value 34 R is the one you can find in the nicest, cleanest body condition you can find within your budget.

Before finding mine I was absolutely astounded with how many had had serious repair damage, often poorly done. I go on to see these cars sold to guys who should know better, but so many guys must fall in love with a dog because it's the right colour, right wheels, right turbos whatever....... Thats why I can never understand any private guy wanting to buy one unseen out of japan. For that value car, I want to see and touch it!

mate drop a line regarding ur 34r as i cant dont have enaugh posts

    • A 1.5 way is a 2 way. It is just a 2 way with a less aggressive ramp on overrun.
    • The ABS and/or TCS being missing/broken will not cause the engine to misbehave. It just casues CEL to come on and annoy you. The CEL is useless if it is always on, so you have to do the things you have to do to get rid of it, so it can be useful. Being a Stag ECU, then yes, it will not expect TCS to be present. But it will expect ABS to be present and working. You will need to either make the ABS CU talk to the ECU (don't ask me what that will take on an NA R34), and make sure the hardware is working....or, you just need to blank it out in Nistune. Do not persist with the stock ECU. You will just have problems. Gte it Nistuned. Start from there. DO YOU HAVE A BOOST SENSOR? The ECU's boost sensor that it. It is connected to the loom at the rear of the coil cover. Usually rides on the firewall on an R34, but is usually bolted down to a bracket along with all the other crap at the back of the coil cover when a Neo is dropped into another car. If you do not have it, the ECU will shit the bed. So, do you have one?
    • So sadly the fuel pump etc was not it. The pump and filter is new and it is still cutting around 4000 rpm. A read something about ABS/TCS (engine is from stagea and ECU too so no TCS) and i dont know for 100% that my car has ABS. It has ABS "cube" in engine bay but i dont think it works(or at least from my braking experience). Can be something like that?  I will be driving the car next week to Nistune tuner to properly see what is wrong...
    • the Tomei LSD fluid with lsd kit. frustrated that it was shaking the car to crap and affecting everything else negatively, I pulled the diff last night, and removed the lsd carrier, could not find anything wrong, however it seem to be 100 locked up acceleration, and deacceleration, wondering if they sent me a 2 way not a 1.5??  either way I installed the stock open carrier back in place. test drove everything smooth as butter again. no shake, shutter, random, what felt like clutch slip and grab or drive shaft play, etc. something differently wrong in side the lsd. I might bother taking it apart (if possible) to figure out what's going on inside this carrier, as bought too long ago to return.  only draw back is its back to a one wheel wonder.
