looking at getting a set of kumhos ku36s to go on a r32 gtr for mostly hill climb use and just street driving aswell lookin at gettin a set of 235/40/18 to go on a set of 9 and a half inch wide wheels also would that be a little bit of stretch aswell just wondering everyones thoughts and advice thanks

pretty mild stretch, looks good.

watch your front offsets with the 9.5's, they might touch your upper control arms on full lock.

do a dry fit without tyres if you can

can't speak from experience, but from what i've heard from them (online and mates), they're great bang for buck, grip hard in the dry, but apparently aren't great in the wet. oh, and apparently the treadwear isn't very good either..

+1 good value and predictable, very good in the dry, don't want to try them out in the wet lol and tread wear is ughhhh not so good. Had mine for bout 9mnths and treads down to bout ~20% lol but then again depends on how and what you use them?

f**k i'm sick of hearing about KU36's in the wet... they are FINE in the wet. not dangerous, and will not eat fluffy puppies and drink their blood.

dont drive like a fkn idiot when it rains and there is NOTHING to worry about

we drive high powered rear wheel drive cars, i mean.. what do people expect?

i love em.

used them for 5 track days, 1 hillclimb day, a million and 1 hills runs, and a-b shit. theyre a great tyre, very predicable (even when ice cold), and warm up nice and quick.

as for their performance in the wet... the people that say theyre garbage in the wet must run around snapping gears and clutch kicking at every possible opportunity. even with my barely off the wear bar 3 track day old rears, they take a fair bit of provocation to get loose.

dont drive like a douchecanoe in the wet and youll be fine, just like any other tyre really.

I've had the KU36 on my R32 GTR with ~335rwkW for 2 track days, many hills runs & plenty of A to B driving. In the dry they are great. In the wet they are good. On one hills run we started in the dry and after an hour it started to rain. The KU36 did slip slightly in the wet but I could feel the tyres and could adjust my driving to suit the conditions. It was still great fun and we were still motoring along quite nicely. Like Scandy & Joey said above, don't drive like an idiot in the wet and you'll be fine.

Would I buy them again? YES.

What is their greatest feature? Bang for Buck! There are better tyres, but they may cost more than twice as much.

R888s are R spec, KU36 are S spec, so i'm not sure comparing the two is that enlightening. IMO its better to choose what sort of tyre you want then compare the options is that class.

If you're going to have two sets of rims its a no-brainer to go R spec for the track rims.

I have set of 265x35x18 ku36s on my 32gtr and have got good wear from them and they handle well but if they are for motorsport only prob go for r compound , i have found district tyres at burwood to be good on price you can get ku36s for 300 fitted or a fedral 595rsr for 325 each fitted

aren't these tires asymetrical?

i chose to get Toyo R1R's they can be changed front to back and left to right, i find they're great in both wet and dry. will definitely buy them again.

i got mine for $300 each so probably a little more expensive than KU36's but i am running 17's in 18's they're pretty $$$

i've got about a years worth of wear out of them which is pretty good for a tread rating of 140.

they're just on the wear marks, will be taking them for some fun on the track then new ones will be going on.

i am not a fan of asymetrical tyres

i got mine from hawthorne tyre power for 250 each.

got 235 front and 255 rear

there good tyres for the price, i run them on 9.5s all around on my gtt. did a mountain run a few weeks ago and once they were warm they were very good. in the wet they are a lil interesting lol. but it definately depends on how u drive them. i had pirelli corsas before these and i say they were way better. but 3 times the price....

    • R34DE as in R34 with an RB25DE? So did you get this? Or you planning to?  I'm not really sure what you're saying. 
    • Possibly avoid using a Cometic one unless the deck/head surface are perfectly flat. I did have a look just then and forgiving gaskets such as Tomei or Nitto don't exist for the FJ20, however the Bar-Tek or Kameari ones look good and might do the trick.
    • Because pipe threads for pipe things. M threads for bolt things. Throw some teflon sealant onto it and dust your hands off knowing you did the right thing, instead of going twice around the block to achieve a result using the wrong things. Of course, all of these solutions are ignoring the fact that the minimum thread pitch we're talking about here is 1.25mm, with the 1/4" in NPT or BPS being out around 1.4mm. You will need to know that the boss you're tapping has enough thickness for at least a few threads. That's one of the reasons that 1/8" is commonly used - because the pitch is <1mm. And why would you look to use 1/4" NPT in a BSP country anyway? Ugh.
    • Just throwing around ideas, does it need to be in the compressor cover? Why not the hot side piping?
