I'd probably go for the F6, they sound mean and with little modding go like a rocket.

ben do you have a hardcover for ya ute? just don't understand how people can pay so much for a ute and have a tarp on the back, ruins everything imo...

Wait till you own one and actually want to use your tray, they suck! I love the ford clips on the outside they are so practical and easy to use. Have used them in so many different ways, I guess it depends on whether you are buying a ute to use or just to look pretty :(

you beat me to it. not everyone buys a ute to pose around in. a lot of people buy them to, oh i don't know, carry stuff around it that you can't fit in a sedan or wagon, and it saves having to tow a trailer. the soft covers are much easier to get into to simply put 1 item in, or take the whole way off if you need to fit something bigger in. you can do it by yourself and don't have to worry about putting a big scratch down the side of the car if you slip while trying to get it off.

I'd go the Ford for a number of reasons.

The Primary reason is I've got a mate with a BA SII XR8 and one with a VZ SS ute. They get treated in very similar fashion, with the ute belonging to a sparky who never carries anything more than a drill and screwdriver set (he has a company work van).

The Commodore is rooted. If feels loose, rattles and squeeks and just feels like a low rent car. The Falcon still feels almost new, even though it's done more k's and been in one major side impact crash and one minor rear end hit. The difference is chalk and cheese especially when you consider the life they have had.

On top of that the Falcon looks better (of course this is subjective) and the engine is an absolute cracker. In time, the current Ford I6T motor will go down as one of the all time great motors and probably the greatest to ever come out of Australia.

That said, the Commodore isn't a bad car, but IMO it does not stack up against the Falcon.

New Dilemma...

2008 FPV F6 tornado

or

2010 50th anniversary Ford XR6 turbo...

I'm not that keen on the new look, however... the interior is fcking awesome... seats are way better and the centre console looks a lot better.

what are the main differences in terms of engine and suspension? Isn't the new XR6 turbo 270kw as well?

thoughts appreciated... :P

on the fg's, the f6 models have a larger turbo. not like the ba/bf where they were all true gt35 1.06. the xr max out at around 330rwk. f6 well over 400. i would personally go the f6, got all the good gear and more desirable. the 50th ann xr is still just an xr. btw dont get a manual.

Are we talking about the same FPV here though? I'm talking about the last model one that looks like the below image...

thanks for the info though mate... :P

Ok so now it comes down to a BF FPV vs the FG XR6T, this is a pretty common discussion on fordxr6turbo.com if you are buying one its worth taking the time to sign up.

The BF and FG FPV use the same turbo, its also the same as the B series xr6 turbos. In the FG they switched the xr6 to a slightly smaller turbo which i believe maxes out around 330-340 rwkw give or take. The upside to this is they boost quicker, not that i find that an issue in my 6 speed auto BF xr6t anyway. The FG xr6t also seems to reel off higher figures on the dyno completely stock and I believe some guys are hitting high 12s standard in auto. My uncle has an FG g6et (same engine wise as the FG xr6t) and i think he said it ran up into the mid 200 rwkw range stock, not even retuned.

Either car would really benefit from a small bit of cash spent on a flash tuner + high flow cat + injectors. If theres anything you want to ask feel free to PM me.

My bro just got a 2010 FPV F6 ute.. And i have to say wow it is awesome and so easy to drive.

the auto box is a dream and downshifts just when u need it slowing down.. Def go the auto ZF box!!

Power wise it is very very good for a stock car and has pleanty left in it just a little tail happy haha...

very tail happy i bet, I don't understand why people need more than 310kw in a ute? it is so hard to get the fcking power down to the ground because their is no weight in the back.

Not forgetting that you are comparing the previous generation of models, the VE is completely new!

It ain't that new. It's made on the same production line by the same brow beaten employees using the same materials.

Try and find a production worker for Holden and one for Ford and ask them about the cultures at the two. I think you'll find their answers reflect the quality of their respective products.

:ermm: ...lol. 4 pages and the holden V ford discussion still goes on. but unlike a bogan forum, its not just a huge amount of swearing and telling people which you grew up with hence its better.

id go the falcon. will be rarer soon :P and they look and sound nicer imo.

build quality shouldnt be an issue if its new, im sure if it looks shonky enough you wouldnt buy it anyways. although id have to say ive seen more new falcons/territory's broken down than i have commondoors on the warrego highway as i drive past laughing in my kombi :P

You mean the Ford production plan in broadmeadows? I can't imagine the calibre of people working there :ermm:

You can't discount the importance of design itself during the building process!

    • Initially I thought having a pair of Recaro seats would be a big bonus, it turns out these do get a little uncomfortable on long journeys (my fault, not the seat). I had a look through the GSM Performance website at reclining seats and booked an appointment to visit their show room. I got the Recaro Sportster CS for the R34 from here, was very happy with the service received so of course a re-visit was in order. Unfortunately the two Corbeau seats I had chosen aren't on display but they had 4 other options available. Two seats dug into my back, one dug into my legs and the other was perfect. I also found out that Recaro seats use a larger bolt pattern so some adaption was required. Luckily GSM offer some universal adaptors that should solve this problem. I searched the interwebs for price comparisons and Corbeau themselves were the cheapest at £300 cheaper (for the pair). I asked GSM if they could price match, unfortunately they couldn't. I later received an email saying Corbeau would honour them the same discount, but the purchase was already made. I did however order the brackets from GSM, both arrived on the same day. I started with the passenger side seat, knowing this was going to be a little trial and error. There are 3 mounting holes at the front and 2 at the rear on these JURAN Racing seat rails.  With the adaptor brackets mounted, the allen cap bolts started to push into the seat, NOT GOOD!  The rear mounting holes lined up but there were issues at the front. The holes were 1/2 hole out, so the brackets got a tickle with the drill to modify the holes. The supplied bolts weren't going to be long enough and a spacer was needed to stop the adaptor bars from bending. A local fasteners company supplied be with some nylon spacers and longer bolts (M8x30, although these will be replaced with 35mm long shortly) A before and after I pre-drilled the front bracket before making a start on the driver's seat to save some time. And in no time at all that was in the car too. The all black seats have transformed the interior and these are MUCH more comfortable. The only downside with the new Corbeau seats is I sit a little higher, but I'll happily accept that over discomfort. The Youtube video can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wPyttKPktXA
    • All 3 I guess. The car came with the JASI Aero 4 door Type R Full Kit unpainted so this was one thing at the top of my list to complete then I noticed there were body panels parts for this kit so i picked them up along with some black mesh to fill in the front bumper and front side air vents. car is at a paint and body shop atm completing this work. Next I will be addressing the internal bells and whistles, great summer project I can do with the kids.  full interior removal - ,boys car sound deadening - pads and spray ,boys stereo, sound, lighting - Big 3, GTT or bigger alternator ,kids head lining - dye black add star lighting mod ,daughter. That's it for the next 5-6 months. I have some motor maintenance  work i have to plan out. oil filter relocation, gaskets, mounts. beyond that, mind is starting to turn over if i can use a DET intake plenum, block off turbo ports & pipe in a air intake.
    • roller coaster of a ride. Alarm system was removed & main harness was repaired where possible. still no fix just random successful starts. moved on to the replacing the ignition switch and relay. well all this troubleshooting & repair has been going on, the car is at a paint and body shop being pushed around. Ive been going down there on odd days after work to get it sorted.
