New PB at Wakefield!

1:09.63

Had a good day at the SAU Vs RENEW event. no breakages but the miss the splitfires were suppose to fix is still there sad.gif you could hear it anywhere on the track when did it.

i actually started looking at the dash as i was going around and noticed that the car was trying to boost over 20psi! which then the ecu was cutting ignition or something.

im pretty sure that the wastegate was staying closed as when i slowly and gently got on the power it seemed to hold boost @16psi. also a little wd40 in the top of it stopped it from happening for a lap or so it it dried out.

hopefully i have a new wastegate on soon to see if that fixes it.

next things im doing are some new tyres(the RSR's are now over a year old, with several outtings), larger sump and a VLT oil pump. wanna get traction sorted and make it more reliable before it blows lol

pic from the day :)

haha. maybe from afar it looks clean...

it started like as a cheap drift hack, slowly getting better bits into it.

Sexy daves 31 from the 31club would have to be the cleanest ive seen. but there are heaps in there to drool over :)

unfortunately, i cant afford Federal FZ201 or some slick ATM so it will be FediRSR's again, albeit an 1in wide a corner.

bought a Turbosmart 38mm gate just to trouble shoot till my new mani arrives, hopefully to the dyno soon.

thats about it for now,got to concentrate on getting the silo road worthy. rolleyes.gif so, heres some assorted picstongue.gif

heres a vid from the SAUvs RENEW day done by Eric (Pezhead).

theres not much of me, but some really cool cars like the wide body RB S15 and a Sports Sedan R100

Watch th R34 GTR pass me on the straight. "Hmmm i might just got round the jolly old fellow" lol

Yeay!!! issue got fixed today!

cant wait for texi, two weeks till skids :)

turns out it was boost cut by the ecu. now in part to having the wrong spring and lazyness, boost has been up'd to 18psi. tune is still quite rich for some protection.

does anyone know how to convert Tractive Effort into something i can understand?

Awesome build thread, I love cheap home job builds and your two door... theyre so hard to find these days, well up here anyway.

Cheers guys, skid vids soon :)

new wheels turned up today. wider tyres and less camber/castor will help fitment, but more importantly they dont need spacers to clear brakes and they fit the hub

ring thingys.

will feel alot more confident about not shearing studs now

215front/235rear going to 235front/255rear will hopefully help with grip.

why yes good sir, i will need some good tyres.

poof.gif

yeay, now rolling on Federal FZ-201s!

235s and 255s

went up to wakefield yesterday and scrubed them in. felt heaps grippier then the RSR's up until 3rd gear hated life.:whistling:

8 track outings and a few dyno runs in a 20 box aint bad me thinks. got another $100 box ready to go.

also bought a GPS data logger last night, so i'll be able to keep better track of improvements in the car and myself.

quick mob pic from yesterday.

so, i've had a go at making a front splitter.

its is a prototype/having a go to see if it works kind of thing. basically inan effort to reduce some understeer.

2in garden edging, 9mm ply an some s/s turnbuckels that have been attached tothe reo.

2011-12-06_164353.jpg

will sit flat when the bar is attached.

2011-12-06_164409.jpg

it sits about 100mm of the ground and goes back to the rear of the bar.

also put on the front tow point incase i poo it.

2011-12-06_165952.jpg

also bought this, so i'll know for sure if it works tongue.gif

cheers champ

Well, went to the last sau day @ wakie for the year today. Good time had smiley.gif

Met Chris Easton, one of the reasons i originally got the 31, the new tyreswere awesome and the splitter actually worked!

1st session quickest was a 1:10.1, 2nd was a 1:08.7, 3rd 1:08.3 and 4th a1:07.4 grin.gif and 5th a 1:08.0..

starting to get my consistency down too, with 4 1:7s in a row in the 4th ses.

The new tyres (Federal FZ201s) had heaps of grip, way more than my old RSR'swhich were grippy as too. The splitter removed all of my understeer, defs goingto work on some more underbody aero...

And that little data logger was worth every cent. awesome to know what you did, when you did it and how.couple of quick pics in the pit

Done some stuff J

My missus bought me a RPM duel layer suit for my bday so I can look all pro. Unfortunately it just shows my pot belly so no pics for that… tongue.gif

I have been thinking for awhile that my spring rates are too stiff.

I've been running 10kg'sfront and 8kg rears, good for driftos not so mush for sprints.

After talking over with Blue I have put the rears in the front and borrowed some 6's for the rear off Sweetfu

And my cf bonnet from fatz showed up last week. Quantity so awesome I crack an instant boner

Truth be told, I've wanted a 31house bonnet since I got into 31's… nearly 11years ago!

Also bought some flash aerocatches

After my last Wakefield day the FZ's showed how under braked my car is so now I've had some dogbone brake adapters made up and am just waiting on a price for some project Mu 330mm disc's for the front.

see, 31s can look low...

2012-03-25145834.jpg

Where did you get the brake adapters made?

Also on your splitter, do you have any pics please showing how you attached the ply to the garden edging? I'm guessing 90 degree alloy edging cut into small pieces

so, i've had a go at making a front splitter.

    • You just need to remove the compressor housing, not the entire turbo. I would not be drilling and tapping anything with the housing still on anyways.
    • So, I put my boat on a boat. First of all, I'm going to come out and say it. Why is Tasmania not considered a holy goal, an apex that all road-legal modified cars go to, to experience? This place is an absolute wonderland of titanic proportions. If people are already getting club runs for once in a lifetime 30 person cruises to Tassy then I've never seemed to see it. It is like someone replaced the entire place with an idyllic wonderland for cars, and all of the people living there with paid actors who are kind, humble, and friendly. Dear god. After doing a lap of almost all of the place I've found that it's a great way to find out all of the little things that the car isn't doing quite right and a great way to figure it all out. All in all, I drove for 4 hours a day for a week and nothing broke. I didn't even need to open the engine bay. This is by all means a great success, but it has left me with a list of things to potentially address. I also now have a 3D printed wheel fitment tool which annoyingly hasn't got any threads in it to actually assemble it. I might be able to tape it together to check the sizing I actually want to use, but it'll likely involving pulling the shocks out to properly measure travel at least at the front, and probably raise the car while I'm at it, at least in the rear. I scraped on quite a few things and I'm not sure how else to go about it. I was taking anything with a bump at what felt like 89 degree angles. And address those 10 other tasks. And wash the car. God damn it is dirty. And somehow, the weather was perfect the entire time - And because I was on the top of Mt Wellington it turns out it was very much about to freeze up there. I did something I typically never do and took some photos up there in what must have been -10 and the foggy felt like suspended ice, rather than mere fog. If you own a car in Australia, you owe it to yourself to do it.
    • Damn that was hilarious, and a bit embarrassing for skylines in general 😂 vintage car life ey. That R33 really stomped. Pretty entertaining stuff
    • Hi, I have a r32 gtr transmission. Does any of you guys have an idea how much power it will hold with the billet center plate and stock gearset? At what power level and use did yours brake with or without billet plate? Thanks, Oystein Lovik
    • Saw this replica police car based on a Mitsubishi Starion XX parked next to a 'police box' (it's literally a box) in Hirohata, Himeji City in Hyogo prefecture the other day. It's owned by Morii-san who is a local Mitsubishi Starion enthusiast. According to a local radio station blog post, he always wanted to make a police car himself based on ones he saw in his favourite Manga comics.  As it's illegal to modify a car to look like a police car and drive on the road, Morii-san tried many times to get permission from Aboshi police station headquarters nearby. They refused initially by after they got tired of that they granted him permission. However, the car can only be displayed on private property and obviously can't be registered as long as the police livery is present. The car was completed at a cost of 1.5 million yen (US$ 10,000) in addition to the car cost. A location was chosen outside Hirohata Police box where the car can easily been seen from the street. Morii-san has two other Starion road cars, both widebody GSR-VRs.
