Yours looks like it is brand new Nex, xcept for the DESPATCH sticker on the front :), actually looks better than the one I got, I splurged out and got a $5 but one of the better ones, but not as good as yours :) yeah I'm off on my lovely ride home, see you all in 30 mins :( I have no life!

Matt - you managed to get him on the phone?

i was speaking to him about your front bar and 1) he looked lost when i mentioned your name and 2) he was WAITING for you to call :)

haha .. poor guy ... he's too busy... gotta get himself a secretary... but his prices and worksmanship are hard to beat...

excellent, get it done tommorow morning...

Did you see the bar glenn? I have no idea what color it is... im assuming its the undercoat grey?

nope... he was running up and down and dun really wanna hold his time... i think its uncoated though but might be wrong ...

haha poor guy... he must be flat out...

I was WAITING FOR HIM! lol oh well a bit of miscommunication there... :)

What does uncoated mean?

sounds like them.. didn't really sound like they were running a professional place when i went in there.

I rocked up and grabbed what I wanted.. but god.. you can hardly get in the place. How are you meant to get there and pick something up if you can barely get in the street? I was surprised i got out of there with no damage to my car to be honest.

If they're uncoated, means they just come straight out of the mould. My sideskirts already will need some work to smooth back and things. Ends up costing more for the final job as the panel shop has to dick with it and extra labour.

but on the other hand speaking of good marketing..

anyone seen the lipton ice tea ad?

pretty funny, the guy walks up to these chicks and says 'hey couldnt see if you were actually hot from over there so ive come over for a closer look'

the girls reply with 'yeah we have already checked you out and your not for us'

then the guy says 'hey ive just noticed some topless chicks checking me out, so ill catch you girls later'

nex - how does it work? well ill use the shown example..

this chick starts chatting up guys at the pub and gets them to by her a drink, but she wants this new 'vodka-o' and then sparts plugging the drink and how good it is

then she moves on to more and mroe guys pluggin the drink, and gets payed for it

sly ... very sly

nah its not about sex selling its more like this...

lets say i want some front mount piping done for my cooler.. and because i know YOU have a frontmount i ask you for some advice

and you tell me to goto bobs front mounts he is sooooo good, and his work is amazing..

then joe jumps in and plugs bobs front mounts saying how good it is.. so im beliving that bobs front mounts are the front mount kinds, so i take my car there because im under the belief that its gettin worked on by the best

but .. truthfully you and joe have been payed by bob to go spread the word..

see what im sayin?

basically what mindflux said

They basically pay normal everyday people (via products or money) to promote the good word of their products. There was a case in some US schools where they were actually giving the "cool" kids like the latest Nike or Adidas or whatever shoes. The effect of this was to convince all the other kids to pester their parents to get the same shoes, because the cool kids had them :) Nice huh? Why advertise, when you can simply let people's own word of mouth spread the name of the product?

Nice evil marketing concept, but I'd assume it would work in certain places. There's probably whole marketing books dedicated to the theory :)

it doesn't have to be for evil purposes though. No more invalid than product placement in the movies or whatever.

Apparently "smoking" visible on screen is at massive levels, simply as cigarette companies know that its a nice way to make their products cool again, and also nicely circumnavigate laws against cigarette advertising.. So the rumours are that cigarette companies provide kickbacks to the studios or to actors to have characters smoking a fag in the movie..

    • It was a great, but typical track day, and some VB was ingested at the night time debrief 🤪
    • And so, to round this out, I couldn't be happier to confirm @MBS206 has decided to buy the car. He drove down from sunny QLD with a trailer last week and it is off to its new home today. I'll let Matt confirm on next steps but I understand broadly that the plan is to leave it pretty much as is, and just get some quality wheel time with a nicely balanced car that is pretty much track ready. There are a few a jobs still to be done first but nothing too major and I think its a very smart buy Dinner last night at the Paragon with a round of VBs (mostly) for Neil
    • Well, 50 pages and the end of a chapter for this car. We took it out for a shakedown at Wakie yesterday, and everything went well. There were a couple of niggles: - Oil cooler fitting leak - tightened, cleaned, stopped leaking - Radiator cap overflow fitting was leaking....Mark called it, the overflow fitting was threaded in and not tight....tightened, tested and held pressure - Small oil leak at the rear of the block, probably the turbo oil feed - too hot to get at it comfortably but probably just needs to be nipped up - leak at the driver's side rear brake line where it meets the hardline. Fitting wasn't loose, so Matt backed it off and back on, no further leaks - there's also a leak somewhere on the top of the fuel tank, maybe that cross over fuel line - that was has been left to fix when its on a hoist Otherwise than those niggles the car went great, turned great and stopped great so it was a very successful day out. I'm always really nervous when a car first hits the track after a long break, especially with a brand new engine as well but it was great. VID-20251011-WA0007.mp4  Big thanks to @The Bogan who dropped by and helped out, @MBS206 and my nephew Lachlan the apprentice.  Neil's wife Mel also surprised the hell out of all of us by dropping by; she's up in Tamworth these days but was travelling to Melbourne so had plausible deniability for turning up at the garage, it was great to see her but also obviously a bit sad all round.

    • Unsolicited advice? Keep the engine as close to stock as you can. Nothing wrong with adding some boost and making a little more power, but given where you are, you really don't want to try to make it into a monster. I can't imagine the roads are up to it, and the lack of locla support when it grenades will be a ball ache. FWIW, If there is a dyno around that you can access, then brand new injectors are a good idea, which will lead you to (at least) putting a Nistune in it, which will allow you to put an R35 AFM on it, all of which will make it possible to make it much much nicer to drive and live with.
